Race 1: BRISBANE RIVERVIEW HOTEL FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M LEGS UNBARRED – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 900m, and as a result raced wide throughout. LONTANA - Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 900m, and as a result raced wide throughout. Tightened for room and eased near the 400m when LATCHY’S GIRL (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out and LEGS UNBARRED (C. Eaton) shifted in. Jockey Bogenhuber and jockey Eaton were both advised by Stewards to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. SILVER SCREEN – Trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the filly by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. On returning to scale jockey B. Stower advised that after beginning awkwardly her mount raced in a rearward position in the early stages. She added that the filly commenced to overrace near the 900m and despite her best efforts to restrain the horse she was unable to maintain a position trailing LATCHY’S GIRL, and as a result shifted wider on the track when awkwardly placed at that runner’s heels. LUCKY MISS – Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. Race 2: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M TRIBE – Pulled up quickly by its rider shortly after the winning post. On returning to scale, jockey N. Tomizawa advised Stewards that, in his opinion, the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. FAR NORTH – Began awkwardly and as a result settled further back than anticipated. JIMIBRAMZ – On returning to scale apprentice S. Sweeney reported that after being caught wide in the early stages she elected to restrain her mount to a position one off the fence near the 900m, however from this point to a point near the 600m her mount was off the bit and lost ground. She added that the gelding began to travel strongly near the 600m, and ran home well over the concluding stages. EIGHT CHANCE – Shifted in abruptly near the 150m. Race 3: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1000M BUSH CAVIAR – Slow to begin. PUFF’S GIRL – Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn. SELFIE – Slow to begin. SEQ THE STAR – Began awkwardly. ISIS MAGIC – Hung out rounding the home turn, and shifted wider on the track before being straightened by its rider. Following the running of this race the track was downgraded to a Soft 6. Race 4: ART & SOUL QTIS 3YO COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M BEYOND BRAVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BLACK CRUSADE – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reminded by Stewards of his obligation to ride his mount out to the conclusion of the event. BUDDY HOLLOW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils following the event. As this is the second occasion on which the horse has bled from both nostrils, Trainer M. Hemmings was advised that the horse will now incur a lifetime bar from racing under AR53A(5). CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Had difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages. HEMSWORTH – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. On returning to scale, jockey K. Yoshida reported that he felt the colt may have choked down during the event, and therefore recommended to connections the addition of a tongue tie to its gear prior to its next start. LAST ARMAGEDDON – Tightened for room at the start. The horse was accidentally struck on the head by another rider’s whip leaving the 300m. THE REAL SPIEL – Tightened for room at the start. TISANI GREY – Trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for the late gear change of tongue tie off on the gelding. Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to lay out passing the 1000m, and was steadied from the heels of LAST ARMAGEDDON (B. Nothdurft) which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice Nothdurft was advised to exercise more care in similar situations in the future. Race 5: COCA COLA AMATIL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M COURTING JOY – Hung in for the majority of the event. A warning was issued against the horse’s racing manners. MUSTARRID – Laid in throughout the event, and brushed the running rail on a number of occasions. Improved onto the heels of another runner passing the 400m, and as a result shifted in and became awkward. Momentarily placed in restricted room near the 200m when another runner shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. FRISKIER – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the horse’s seemingly improved performance, Trainer L. Hatch advised that the horse was having its first start for his stable and he was therefore unable to explain the horse’s previous poor performance. Trainer Hatch added that the colt had been working well, and had jumped out well prior to today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation. HERRSCHAFT – As Bradley Appo was unable to fulfil his engagement due to an injury sustained at another meeting, Beau Appo was substituted as rider. Raced wide without cover throughout the event. VINTAGE LACE – Slow to begin. HEART OF CORAL – Raced wide throughout the event. JAREL’S DRAGON – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Race 6: VANDERFIELD HINO CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1050M WILL TO RULE – Held up for clear running from the 500m until a point approaching the 200m. UNSEEMLY – Slow to begin. OUTBACK STORM – When questioned by Stewards as to the disappointing performance, jockey J. Oliver reported that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure from the 500m, his mount failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Oliver added that, in his opinion, the horse failed to handle the prevailing track conditions tonight. CHIPEWYAN - As Bradley Appo was unable to fulfil his engagement due to an injury sustained at another meeting, L. Tilley was substituted as rider. GRAND CHEVAL – Began awkwardly. Bumped heavily near the 250m resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice Z. White, in the presence of trainer Mr L. Hatch, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the terms of AR137(a) in that near the 250m she permitted her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of GRAND CHEVAL, resulting in that runner being bumped heavily and its rider K. Yoshida becoming unbalanced. Apprentice White’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Thursday 9 March 2017 and to expire at midnight on Friday 17 March 2017. PINNEUX – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event. Race 7: GC EVENT HIRE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1850M PRINCE OF PEACE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly on jumping away. Raced wide for the majority of the event. CELTIC RUSH – Severely bumped at the start. Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.
