Race 1: MOORE TRAILERS QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1100m
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow A. Spinks, the rider of 3rd placegetter BEACH DRUM, to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the straight.
HINGUS ROSE – Hampered at the start.
RUBY RED HEART – When questioned regarding her tactics and the horse’s overall performance, apprentice T. Brooker advised that from the wide gate she was required to do a significant amount of work to cross to a position outside the leader near the 800m. She added that from the 800m, due to pressuring the horse in the early stages, it raced keenly and despite her intention to sit off GIRL IN A MILLION, she was unable to do so due to her mount overracing. She went on to say that despite this she expected the filly to quicken greater than it did in the home straight and in her opinion was somewhat disappointing. Trainer J. Zielke confirmed the instructions issued to apprentice Brooker, adding that the horse was galloped on during the race. He advised that he would now freshen the horse up and aim it towards the Ken Russell at the Gold Coast. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had sustained a laceration to the off foreleg.
GIRL IN A MILLION – When questioned regarding the tactics and overall performance of the filly, J. Lloyd advised that after being fractious in the barriers the filly was able to lead the event without being overly pressured. He added that shortly after RUBY RED HEART crossed to his outside, the filly was under pressure and approaching the home turn he felt he was on a beaten horse. Mr Lloyd further added that in his opinion this was attributable to the horse making an abnormal respiratory noise during the event. Trainer B. Currie could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance, however, based on the comments of jockey Lloyd, advised that he would now consider the addition of a tongue tie to the horse’s gear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ALWAYS SACRED – Began awkwardly, lost ground and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. When questioned as to the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance, J. Lloyd advised that the horse is best suited when able to lead in its races or when racing to the outside of other runners and for that reason, in his opinion, the horse missing the start and being forced to obtain inside runs in the home straight were the major contributing factors to the horse’s poor performance today. Stewards noted the explanation.

He added that he could offer no tangible explanation for the horse’s poor performance and suggested to connections that the gelding may be better suited in races over a greater distance than today's event. Trainer D. Hansen could offer no explanation for the performance, however advised that it would be his intention to step the horse up in distance and undertook to report to stewards anything that comes to light which may have had an effect on the performance.
