Race 1: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1310M

As Bradley Appo was to be overweight, Apprentice A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of CASINO EXPRESS when no other senior rider was available.  Bradley Appo was fined $200.

APOLOBOOM – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the tactics and overall performance of the gelding, Apprentice S. Sweeney advised that after beginning well she obtained a position outside I’VE GOT FRIENDS as she had anticipated prior to the race.  Apprentice Sweeney added that she was aware that the horse has previously had a history of breathing issues and for this reason, despite setting a quicker tempo than expected, she was reluctant to overly restrain the gelding.  Apprentice Sweeney also advised that whilst the gelding was disappointing, she was of the view that the seven day backup was a contributing factor to the horse’s poor performance tonight.  Stewards noted the explanation.

HARADIFY – Slow to begin.

I’VE GOT FRIENDS – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the tactics and overall performance of the gelding, Jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that her instructions were to be positive out of the barriers in an endeavour to obtain a leading position and to prevent APOLOBOOM, which was drawn to its outside, to cross her mount.  Jockey Bogenhuber also advised that after beginning well she was forced to do some work to comply with the instructions issued and, despite setting a quicker tempo than desired, she felt that the horse travelled comfortably in the middle stages.  Jockey Bogenhuber also added that from the 600M the gelding commenced to weaken and proved very disappointing from this point.  Stewards noted the explanation.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA PORTABLE TOILETS RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 H’CAP – 1210M

MOSS GO NOW – Slow to begin.

BIG SONNY – Tightened for room shortly after the start.  Jockey N. Tomizawa could offer no tangible explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance other than that the gelding’s best runs have been on rain affected tracks.

DRIVING WHEELS – Held up for clear running and unable to improve from the 500M until near the 250M when disappointed for a run and forced to shift to the outside to secure clear running.

OUTPUT – Jockey Beau Appo could offer no tangible explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance.

ARMA DE FUEGO – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have tied up.

LI’L PIPPA – Prior to the event connections advised Stewards that the instructions were for the filly to be ridden with cover tonight.  Subsequently, the horse began quickly and obtained the leading position.

AMERICAN AT SEA – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

SPECTACULAR ROCK – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: MITTYS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1210M

THE FAB THREE – Bumped shortly after the start.  Raced three wide without cover throughout.

TAY SWIFT – Raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst being restrained.

ANNE CATHERINE – Buffeted on jumping away.  Laid out during the middle stages and raced wide for the majority.

SAY CAVALLO – Laid out rounding the home turn.

HIDE THE CANDY – Began awkwardly.

READY SEQ GO – Bumped shortly after the start.

Race 4: FURNEYS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1650M

ROCKABELLA BOY – Lost a near side winker shortly after entering the home straight.

BACK TO ABILENE – Slow to begin.

STREET SAVVY – Prior to the event connections advised Stewards that, in their opinion, the gelding resents the whip and the rider was therefore instructed to limit the use of the whip on the horse.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight and raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 100M.

Race 5: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when a number of horses proved difficult to load.

MISTER CALYPSO – Raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

DANISH DRAMA – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels at the 400M and again near the 350M.

SUPERIOR JAZZ – On returning to scale, Jockey R. Plumb reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.

RED GERANIUM – Taken across heels by another runner near the 50M.

BOLTIN’ DESIRE – Laid in in the early stages of the event.  Raced three wide without cover throughout.

BLEU – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance of the mare, Trainer K. Waller advised that following its most recent start the jockey reported to him that the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise during the run, and following this advice he added a tongue control bit to the horse’s gear.  Mr Waller added that, in his opinion, this was the major contributing factor in the mare’s improved performance tonight.  Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 6: WESTBROOK TRAILERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1650M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of the 2nd place getter, DOG DAYS ARE OVER, to view the photo finish print.

LIVING LIFE LARGER – Bumped at the start.  Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Race 7: GRAND CENTRAL CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1050M

JOHNNY BE QUICK - Bumped at the start.

HE’S A WITNESS – Bumped at the start.

WHISPERING WINGS - Bumped at the start.

DAZET – Bumped at the start.
