THE CAPTAIN’S LADY was declared a late scratching at 7.50am.  Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time.

MISS MARSEILLE – Bumped on jumping away.  Bumped by another runner near the 250M.

RAVAILLION – Bumped on jumping away.

SHE IS FIERCE – Began awkwardly.  Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.  Raced wide without cover throughout the event.

TREVLYN’S DREAM – Raced greenly throughout the event.  Forced to steady to avoid heels near the 250M.

ALASTRIONA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

EXPLOSIVE BELLE – On entering the track the horse was kicked by another runner resulting in apprentice S. Sweeney being dislodged.  After cantering a short distance the horse was recaptured and then remounted by apprentice Sweeney, and upon arriving at the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.  Began awkwardly.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Soft 5 retrospective.

Race 2: WIPPELLS AUTOS FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

LADY DICTATOR – Raced wide from the 800M.  Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 900M.  At a subsequent inquiry jockey J. Oliver, the rider of SMOOCH, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.

DEEP DOWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

THAT’S HER I THINK – Prior to the event, connections advised Stewards that the horse would be ridden in a forward position today, if possible, from the wide barrier.  Subsequently failed to muster sufficient speed to cross the runners to its inside, and settled in a three wide position towards the tail of the field.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

Race 3: GAINSBOROUGH LODGE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

CALIFORNIA RAIDER – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SIR BAM – Raced wide for the majority of the event.  Momentarily held up for clear running in the early stages.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MON CLINTON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: CARLTON MID CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1625M

LUCKY DUCKY – Raced keenly in the middle stages.  Apprentice R. Ride was fined $100 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

CHELSEA STAR – Failed to muster early speed and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.  When questioned, apprentice C. Bayliss could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance.

TRACK FLASH – Disappointed for a run and lost ground when jockey L. Tilley attempted to shift out to improve passing the 400M.

CONNOLLY – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey J. Taylor allowed his mount to stride forward to obtain a leading position at the 900M.

CAVENDISH ROAD – Lost the near fore plate in running.

Race 5: BUNDABERG RUM COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

AUSTALI – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

SUMMERILL – Raced wide throughout.

SUPAMETEOR – Raced wide throughout.

HOWNOWBROWNCOW – Trainer T. Pascoe was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice R. Williams as rider by the prescribed time.  When apprentice Williams subsequently became indisposed due to illness, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider.  Raced wide without cover throughout.

LEONIDAS – Raced wide throughout.

MANASSAS – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.  Bled both nostrils. Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.

Race 6: SHANNON SIGN CO QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1050M

Some publications displayed the starting time of this event as 3.57pm when in fact the correct starting time was 4.00pm.

DREAM OF ASCOT – Knuckled on jumping away.

CASH’N’RUN – Raced wide during the early and middle stages of the event.

ARGYLL BAY – Lost the near fore plate in running.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in that hoof.

MAGIC INK - As jockey L. Rolls became indisposed due to illness following the running of Race 2, Beau Appo was substituted as rider.  Made contact with the barrier partition on jumping away.

MISTA BUSY – A post-race veterinary examination of the horse, which eased down over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

WINNING KISS – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: CROWE HORWATH RATINGS BAND 0 – 70 H’CAP – 1200M

Due to a publication error, B. Griffith was initially displayed as the rider of REFUSTRESS when in fact Bridget Grylls was the horse’s rider.

STORM MAGIC – Raced wide throughout.

HAZARD BAY – Began awkwardly.  On returning to scale, apprentice M. McGillivray could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly poor performance in today’s event.

SELFIE – Raced wide without cover throughout.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CANNY EXCEL – Due to a clerical error, the gelding was displayed as carrying blinkers in some publications when the horse does not in fact carry that gear.  Stewards therefore permitted the gelding to race without blinkers. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

REFUSTRESS – Slow to begin.
