Race 1: TTC WINTER RACING MAIDEN PLATE – 2000M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey Beau Appo, the rider of 2nd placegetter ROOSTER HUNTER, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter JEEWAN (J. Orman). After viewing the film, jockey Appo indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

STORMY LEO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

Following the running of this race, Stewards inquired into an incident involving SAIPAN (J. Orman), MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO (H. English), PAYBACK (N. Tomizawa), SWEET REPEAT (A. Spinks), ZOUZOUKAKIA (T. Harrison) and STELLARCRAFT (B. Grylls) which occurred near the 800m, and a further incident that occurred a short distance later.  Apprentice H. English subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under rule AR. 137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 800m which resulted in PAYBACK, SWEET REPEAT, SAIPAN and ZOUZOUKAKIA being buffeted and placed in restricted room, and STELLARCRAFT being checked.  Apprentice English’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 17 June 2017 and expire at midnight on Sunday 25 June 2017.  In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of Apprentice English’s previous good record in relation to this rule.

In relation to the incident near the 750m, Stewards established that this was a continuation of the incident at the 800m and despite ZOUZOUKAKIA, SWEET REPEAT and SAIPAN all receiving various degrees of interference, Stewards were mindful of contributing factors in relation to this interference and were not of the view that any one rider could be held accountable and reported the matter as a racing incident.

Race 5: CROWE HORWATH BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1625M

FREE BILLY – Threw its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 1500m, and then raced ungenerously for some distance and shifted wider on the track.  Jockey J. Oliver allowed his mount to stride forward passing the 800m to obtain a leading position.

SEQUASI – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start.  Apprentice R.
