ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL – Slow to begin.  Clipped heels, blundered and dislodged its rider near the 200m.

ROXY RHYTHM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Following this event, Stewards took preliminary statements from Apprentice A. Sewell (ANGEL DANCER) and Apprentice R. Goldsbury (FREE BILLY), in the presence of trainer Mr P. Sexton, in relation to Apprentice A. Spinks being dislodged from ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL near the 200m.  Stewards subsequently adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed to enable Apprentice A. Spinks, who had been transported to hospital for observation, to attend the inquiry.  As a result of Apprentice A. Spinks being transported to hospital, the start time of Race 2 was subsequently delayed slightly.

Race 2: VANDERFIELD HINO CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

WINE BARREL – Slow to begin and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.

SWITCH AT MIDNIGHT – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 450m.

DOG DAYS ARE OVER – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

WAR CHEST – Jumped in at the start and bumped another runner.

SOPHIE’S DESTINY – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner at the 400m.

DUBLEO’S LAD – As Apprentice A. Spinks was transported to hospital following his fall in Race 1, Apprentice A. Sewell was substituted as rider.  As no other apprentice or senior rider was available, Stewards permitted Apprentice A. Sewell to ride the gelding despite being unable to claim any of his allowance.  Laid in during the middles stages of the event.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Bumped on jumping away and lost ground.

DREAMER’S GOAL – Forced to steady away from the heels of another runner near the 1000m.  Jockey K. Yoshida accidentally dropped his whip at the 200m.

MOSS PRINCESS – Raced wide without cover throughout the event.

ROOSTER HUNTER – Raced keenly for some distance past the 1200m and proved difficult to restrain.

Race 6: WESTBROOK TRAILERS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BERGERAC – Trainer S. Tregea reported to Stewards on Friday 23 June 2017 that the gelding had a cyst removed from its throat since it last raced.  When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, stable representative Mr S. Fitzgerald reported that the gelding had shown promise in its first campaign however it was not finishing off its races.  As reported prior to the event, the gelding had a cyst removed since its last race, and Mr Fitzgerald indicated to Stewards that he believed that this was the major contributing factor in the horse’s improved performance in tonight’s event.  Stewards noted the explanation.

FIFTH STREET – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with another runner.

MONTEAL JOE - As Apprentice A. Spinks was transported to hospital following his fall in Race 1, jockey B. Derbyshire was substituted as rider when no other apprentice was available.  Raced wide throughout.

RED MAHOGANY – Placed in restricted room at the 750m and again at the 700m.  When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised Stewards that the horse began only reasonably well and failed to muster the early speed that he had anticipated.  He added that after receiving some tightening on two occasions near the 700m, the gelding failed to travel from that point and proved very disappointing over the concluding stages.  Stewards noted the explanation.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

REDHAZE – Bumped heavily by another runner at the start.

MISHANI LA SCALA – Placed in restricted room near the 750m to the inside of RED MAHOGANY (N. Tomizawa) which was taken in by READY SEQ GO (W. D’Avila) which was in turn taken in by TUTOKANULA (T. Brooker) which shifted in when not completely clear.  Jockey T. Brooker was advised by Stewards to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.  The gelding was again placed in restricted room near the 700m and became unbalanced when racing to the inside of RED MAHOGANY (N. Tomizawa) which was taken in by READY SEQ GO (W. D’Avila) which shifted in when not completely clear.  Jockey W. D’Avila was advised by Stewards to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

Race 7: BRISBANE RIVERVIEW HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of the 4th placegetter, DAY OF THE FOX, to view the photo-finish for 3rd. After viewing the print, they were satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

LONNIE’S PRIDE – Jumped in at the start and bumped another runner.  Raced wide without cover throughout.

DAY OF THE FOX – Tightened for room shortly after the start.  Bumped heavily and became unbalanced near the 700m when racing to the inside of MAKUBA (N. Thomas) which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.

MAKUBA – Hung in and shifted in abruptly on a number of occasions during the event.  Trainer T. Thomas was advised that the gelding would be required to jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

SIDERE – Tightened for room shortly after the start.  Raced wide in the middle stages.  Held up at the heels of another runner in the early stages of the home straight.

PRINCESS REAAN – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.  Weakened over the concluding stages of the event and was beaten a considerable distance.  Trainer S. Mesken was advised that in light of the mare’s recent poor performances the mare would be barred from racing at TAB venues until such time as it establishes competitive form at non-TAB venues.

NATURE TRAIN – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.  Tightened for room and checked near the 800m to the inside of DAY OF THE FOX (Brad Appo) which was taken in by MAKUBA (N. Thomas) which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
