SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Toowoomba Saturday 21 October 2017:

Stewards questioned Trainer M. Nolan in relation to the performance of SIR DONALD, which performed below market expectations. Mr Nolan advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when ridden on the pace, and for that reason was not suited by being ridden with cover during the event. Mr Nolan added that the horse races better on firmer surfaces and therefore may not have appreciated the heavy track, particularly given it was first up from a spell tonight. Mr Nolan went on to say the gelding had pulled up well following the event and expected it to perform well at its next start when back on a firmer surface with improved race fitness. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards questioned Trainer K. Kemp in relation to the seemingly improved performance of JUPARA PRINCE. Mr Kemp advised that he was disappointed in the horses first race start, as he had expected a forward showing on that occasion. He added that in light of that performance he elected to give the horse a jump out prior to tonights event, in which he added a tongue tie to the horses gear. Mr Kemp advised that the horse jumped out pleasingly in this gear and was therefore optimistic of an improved performance tonight with this gear change effected. Stewards noted the explanation.

GENERAL

The track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 4.20pm.

As K. Yoshida, C. Eaton and Apprentice H. Phillips were unable to fulfil their engagements in Races 1, 2 and 3 due to a delay occurring at the Clifton meeting today, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

As Bradley Appo was injured and stood down at the Clifton meeting today, a riding replacement was made in Race 4 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: CARLTON MID CLASS 4 HCAP 1300M

As jockey K. Yoshida was unable to fulfil his engagement on I AM BACCHUS, Stewards permitted Apprentice M. Schrapel to be substituted as the rider when no senior rider was available at the weight.

BRUBAKER Slow to begin.

PRINCE OF PEACE Shifted wider on the track whilst rounding the home turn when SONADOR FIRE shifted out to improve.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS CLASS 2 HCAP 1000M

DESERT COWBOY Hampered on jumping away. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

SANDRELLI Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from heels passing the 550m.

WAR CHEST Hampered between runners and tightened for room at the 150m.

FIVE SPICES Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Heavily bumped and forced in at the 150m, which resulted in the gelding being checked and the rider becoming unbalanced. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of DESERT COWBOY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 150m he permitted his mount to shift in under hard riding when insufficiently clear of FIVE SPICES which was severely checked and forced in, tightening WHATS THE MATTER which was severely checked and lost its rightful running. In this incident WAR CHEST and MAN OF WAR were also bumped and hampered to the inside of WHATS THE MATTER. Apprentice Nothdurfts licence to ride in races was suspended for 16 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 28 October 2017 and expire at midnight on Monday 13 November 2017. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Apprentice Nothdurfts guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the high range.

MACS GAL Prior to the event, connections advised Stewards that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden off the speed today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

ALPENGLOW Hampered between runners shortly after the start. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

WHATS THE MATTER Severely checked when tightened for room passing the 150m.

APPLE JACK Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

MAN OF LAW Heavily bumped at the 150m.

BOILING Steadied away from the heels of WHATS THE MATTER near the 850m when that runner had a tendency to lay in at that point. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the mare, Trainer D. Murray indicated that the mare has only been back in his stable for its last couple of starts and, due to circumstances at non-TAB starts, the mare was not suited on the dirt tracks. Mr Murray also advised that he has freshened the mare up, and stated that the mare is better suited to shorter distances as the horse has a tendency to overrace in longer events. Mr Murray further added that the shorter distance permitted the mare to settle further back in the field, and he was not surprised by the win tonight, and he expects the mare to race in a similar pattern in the future.

Race 3: CREATE FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS CLASS 1 HCAP 1300M

THE BARRACUDA Raced wide throughout. Steadied away from heels passing the 900m, and raced wide from the remainder of the event.

SANJAY Commenced to overrace, and had to be steadied away from heels, passing the 900m. Bumped by STYLIAN passing the 500m when that runner attempted to shift out to improve.

ALL APPLES Raced wide rounding the home turn.

DREAMERS GOAL Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 4: MOORE TRAILERS BENCHMARK 70 HCAP 1625M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed slightly to enable the connections of the third placegetter, WAR FRONT, to view the Stewards patrol footage to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against the second placed horse, JUST AS LOYAL. After viewing the footage, connections declined to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judges semaphored numbers.

ISNT SHE ELEGANT When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey M. Pegus indicated that the mare travelled only reasonably to a point passing the 600m, and when asked to improve over the concluding stages, his mount failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant findings.

DAZZLE EM SID Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide in the early stages, and was then forced 4 wide passing the 700m when the runners to the horses inside shifted out to improve. Tired over the concluding stages after travelling wide, and as a result tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer M. Kropp undertook to advise Stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the coming days which may explain todays performance.

Race 5: UBET MAIDEN HCAP 1300M

As Apprentice A. Spinks was indisposed due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted Apprentice B. Nothdurft to be substituted as the rider of STUDLY ROOSTER.

SAINT CHRISTOPHER Had a tendency to lay in leaving the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting signs of the thumps.

KING DINISTY Laid in shortly after entering the home straight.

KIRAS BEAT Momentarily held up at the 300m, and had to alter course to the outside to obtain clear running.

CEDAR FALLS Overraced in the early and middle stages, and had to be steadied away from heels on a number of occasions.

HONEST NATALIE Bumped, became unbalanced and brushed the running rail when SAINT CHRISTOPHER laid in passing the 150m. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

Race 6: HANNAS QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN HCAP 1050M

RED MAKO Had a tendency to lay in shortly after jumping, and bumped the hindquarters of EDENANNIE, which resulted in the filly becoming unbalanced for a couple of strides. Had to be checked away from the heels of SECRET DRAGON passing the 850m.

SECRET DRAGON Slightly tightened for room, became unbalanced and lost ground passing the 850m when EDENANNIE shifted in whilst racing greenly.. Apprentice H. English was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.

EDENNANIE Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Apprentice H. English reported at scale that her mount raced greenly throughout the event.

Race 7: PRYDES EASIFEED MAIDEN PLATE 1625M

DEEP CREEK LAD Overraced and raced greenly whilst being restrained in the early stages.

QUIRION Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported at scale that his mount hung out from a point passing the 850m.
