QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 2 DECEMBER 2017 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – SOFT 5/GOOD 4 @ 3.40PM RAIL – TRUEPENETROMETER – 5.3 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. BoyleStewards – J. Childs, B. Cooke, T. PrestonBetting Steward – ClubClerk of Scales – ClubJudge – ClubVeterinarian – F. ViljoenSwab Attendants – D. Hall, M. NixonStarter – P. BrennanStewards Secretary – M. Weir GENERAL The track was upgraded from a Soft 5 to a Good 4 at 3.40pm. Stewards questioned jockey S. Bogenhuber and Apprentice B. Nothdurft with respect to the timeframe allowed by both riders between their engagements at Kilcoy and the Toowoomba twilight meetings today. Stewards noted that the delay at Kilcoy had some bearing on the timeframe for both riders to be present on course to take their rides in Race 2 tonight, however they were of the opinion that the time allowed to travel between the two venues was not sufficient for both riders to drive safely to meet the requirement for them to be on course 30 minutes prior to taking their rides. Stewards also reminded both riders that they had to be replaced in Race 1, and that these replacements were only able to be made as the replacing riders did not have commitments at any other venue today, and were able to travel to the track. Stewards advised both riders that they are not to accept rides with a similar limited timeframe in the future as they risk their own safety, as well as the safety of others. Race 1: HIGGINS PAINTING BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1625M SUPERCHIC – Held up rounding the home turn. THE BARRACUDA – Began awkwardly. Held up upon entering the home straight, and was further disappointed passing the 200m when cramped for room between runners. THUMBS UP – As Apprentice B. Nothdurft was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement due to a delay at the Kilcoy meeting today, jockey N. Nishio was substituted as rider when no other apprentice rider was available. MENDELSSOHN – As jockey S. Bogenhuber was unable to arrive on course to fulfil her engagement due to a delay at the Kilcoy meeting today, jockey N. Evans was substituted as rider. BRUMBY JACK – Raced wide after passing the 400m. HAMMERACK – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer T. Dougall regarding the late declaration of N. Tomizawa as rider. Bumped by SUPERCHIC which shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m. ISLAND SUNSET – Stewards permitted Apprentice R. Goldsbury to claim only 1 kilogram of her 1½ kilogram allowance. Commenced to overrace, and got its head in the air on a number of occasions, after passing the 1200m. Race 2: KEHOE MYERS CONSULTING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M ABI’S THE ONE, which has not raced in over 12 months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. OCCHILUPO – Stewards acceded to the request of Trainer B. Currie to permit the horse to race without blinkers in tonight’s event. In granting the request, Stewards acknowledged that Racing Australia experienced technical difficulties in the days prior to the meeting which prevented the earlier notification of the gear change. A public announcement was made to this effect. Slow into stride and bumped on jumping away. Commenced to overrace when racing in a rearward position in the early stages, and got its head in the air whilst being restrained. When questioned by Stewards regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice R. Goldsbury advised that she was instructed to ride the horse just off the speed today if possible, and that after being slow into stride the horse settled further back than she had anticipated, and she elected to obtain a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field. Stewards questioned Apprentice Goldsbury’s tactics between the 600m and the 300m, and in particular at a point passing the 400m where she noticeably restrained her mount when there was opportunity to improve, and also in relation to her lack of vigour in the early part of the home straight. Trainer B. Currie expressed some disappointment that the horse was not able to hold a more forward position, however he advised that after being slow away he was happy with the horse’s position in the early part of the race. When asked if he was satisfied with Apprentice Goldsbury’s ride in the middle stages and approaching the home turn, Mr. B. Currie expressed some disappointment in Apprentice Goldsbury’s vigour, and when asked if he thought the horse should have finished closer, he said that he was of the view that the horse may have finished closer if the horse had been ridden a little more aggressively. As the horse had left the course, Trainer Mr. B. Currie was advised to return the horse to the racetrack to enable a post-race veterinary examination to be performed. That examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards subsequently charged Apprentice R. Goldsbury under rules AR. 135(b) and AR. 135(c) in that she did not take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure the horse was given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field. Apprentice R. Goldsbury elected to reserve her plea in relation to these charges to enable her to obtain further advice and prepare submissions, and the inquiry was therefore adjourned to a date to be fixed. WAKE UP SAILOR – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. MISSY ATTITUDE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track when SCRIPTS shifted out to improve approaching the 400m. TYRANNY – Bumped on jumping away. REJUVENATE – Declared a late scratching by Stewards at 11.18am due to no rider being available. SPARKLING GIFT – As jockey K. Yoshida was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement due to a delay at the Kilcoy meeting today, jockey N. Evans was substituted as rider. ONE GOLDEN DAY – Reared on a couple of occasions prior to the start being effected. GOOD JOB BRO – Stewards acceded to the request of Trainer M. Kropp to permit the horse to race without blinkers, a tongue-tie and winkers in tonight’s event. In granting the request, Stewards acknowledged that Racing Australia experienced technical difficulties in the days prior to the meeting which prevented the earlier notification of the gear change. A public announcement was made to this effect. BRAVE DAZZLER – Slow to begin. Race 4: MALOUF PHARMACIES WYALLA CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M MAITRE DU JEU – Raced wide after passing the 500m. PANDORA’S TALE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. SILVER SCREEN – Held up from the 400m until entering the home straight, and then had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight. RUBY GURU – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. PURE WHISPER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Race 5: CARLTON DRY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M GREYNOMAD – Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight. MISHANI KHAN – After being in the leading position in the early stages, compounded and tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled in the near side nostril. Trainer B. Currie was advised that the gelding must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. WESTBROOK WARRIOR – Slow into stride. PROLETAIRE – Had to be steadied from heels and shifted out approaching the 600m. TRUST ISSUES – Had to be restrained from heels and shifted wider on the track approaching the 600m. Race 6: YELLOWGLEN CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M DESERT COWBOY – Became fractious in the float enroute to the track and bumped its head. MARGOT – Commenced to weaken shortly after entering the straight, and brushed the running rail on its own accord on a number of occasions. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the filly has been racing for a long period of time and has travelled from Melbourne to Toowoomba and, in his opinion, may be at the end of its preparation. Trainer B.
