Tightened for room shortly after passing the winning post when racing to the inside of CHASINGWAGTAILS (N. Nishio) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey N. Nishio was reprimanded as a result of this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer R. Stephenson was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
SALUTE THE PRINCE – Slow into stride.
YALLAROI – Steadied to avoid the heels of MEZCAL near the 1400m when that runner shifted in when not completely clear. R. Goltz, the rider of MEZCAL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Checked to avoid heels near the 150m when CHASINGWAGTAILS shifted out. N. Nishio, the rider of CHASINGWAGTAILS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of YALLAROI. N. Nishio’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight Saturday 12 May 2018 and expire at midnight Sunday 20 May 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Nishio’s previous good record in relation to this rule.
CHASINGWAGTAILS – Slow into stride.
FLYING COLOURS – Made contact with the running rail near the 1200m and became unbalanced.
Race 2: AG RIGGING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
RULER’S PRIDE – Buffeted between runners in the early stages. Raced with its head in the air for a short distance whilst being restrained near the 900m.
GRANDIOSO – Slow to begin. Momentarily steadied approaching the 900m when racing to the inside of BUBBA ROCKER. Apprentice R. Ride reported that her mount was reluctant to stretch out for the majority and, for that reason, she desisted from riding the gelding out over the concluding stages. Stable representative, Mr. S. Clarke, was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance as the gelding had been working well in preparation for today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Nevertheless, Mr. Clarke undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the horse’s disappointing performance.

WINSOME SAM – Buffeted between runners in the early stages.

TURKANA – Slow to begin. Apprentice S. Lacy reported that her mount had a tendency to lay in throughout and proved difficult to ride.
GREYWOLF – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned about the disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that after beginning reasonably she obtained a midfield position, however she was forced to race wide for the majority. She added that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout however, when placed under pressure from the 400m, failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Bogenhuber went on to say that the gelding may be better suited ridden further back in the field with cover if circumstances permit. As Trainer B. Currie was not present at the meeting he will be interviewed at a later date regarding the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
JONZALI – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner leaving the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CAPTAIN’S ANGEL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly, and was steadied from heels, when the pace of the race steadied leaving the 800m.
WHERE’S SNIPPY – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of TURBO TEDDY, which was placed third in a dead-heat with DRAGON STREET, to view the Stewards patrol footage over the concluding stages, and to also view the photo finish print. After viewing the patrol footage and the photo finish print, the connections advised that they did not wish to lodge a protest, and were satisfied that a margin could not be detected between the dead-heating runners. Correct weight was therefore declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
REDEX – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in the rider being required to stop riding and straighten approaching the winning post.
BOTTARGA – Bumped at the start.
TURBO TEDDY – Momentarily steadied over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner.
