SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Toowoomba – Saturday 12.05.18 – Race 2
Trainer’s representative, Mr. S. Clarke, reported that GRANDIOSO had pulled up satisfactorily following this run, and he therefore elected to trial the horse at the Gold Coast on Thursday 17 May 2018 in which the horse was able to lead and ultimately win the event. Based on this trial, the stable will continue with the horse’s current preparation.

From Toowoomba – Saturday 12.05.18 – Race 4
Trainer Mr. B. Currie reported that GREYWOLF had pulled up well following its seemingly disappointing performance. He added that, in his opinion, the distance of this race was below the gelding’s most suitable distance, and for that reason he will endeavour to step the gelding up in distance to 1200m at its next start.

Race 1: MAIDAH EQUIPMENT REPAIRS PTY LTD MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

STARKIN – Laid out rounding the home turn.

TAPROCK – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 400m, became held up, and was checked by its rider.

RED MONKEY – Slow to begin.

MY KASHKARD – Trainer B. Azel was fined $100 for the late addition of a cross-over noseband to the horse’s gear. Raced wide without cover throughout. Cast the near hind plate in running.

MIZ NAZAR – After his mount was bumped on the hindquarters by another runner rounding the home turn, jockey N. Tomizawa shifted the filly wider to relieve pressure on a runner to his inside.

Race 2: TONY MURRAY BUILDING & RENOVATIONS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1110M

As Apprentice B. Nothdurft was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement in Race 2 due to a delay at the Beaudesert meeting, Maurice Crawford was substituted as the rider of SOLO ARTIST when no other apprentice was available.

WINE BARREL – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 800m. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Held up near the 50m.

SOLO ARTIST – Improved onto heels near the 800m and was checked by its rider. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Jockey M. Crawford was cautioned in relation to his use of the whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.

EVAMAC – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice S. Sweeney advised that after beginning well her mount settled further forward than she had anticipated.  She added that she was forced to race 3 wide throughout, however the filly travelled well until placed under pressure from the 400m at which point it failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Trainer E. Ropiha advised Stewards that the one month period between runs, and the filly being forced to race wide, were the major contributing factors to the horse’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ATOMIC MISSILE – Trainer T. Thomas was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice R. Goldsbury as rider. Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained in the early stages. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 800m.

SQUEAK’S BOY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

NUSKEE PARKER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: BK HIRE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M

POOLENZO – Laid out rounding the turn near the 400m, and shifted wider on the track.

REJUVENATE – Slow to begin. Lost the off-fore plate in running.

UNIQUE MAGIC – Forced wider on the track in the early stages by POOLENZO, which was taken out by MR CHOW, and as a result was steadied to avoid heels. S. Bogenhuber, the rider of MR CHOW, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Made contact with the running rail near the 900m.

TENNESSEE FLING – Connections advised Stewards that it would be the intention for the horse to be ridden more forward today if possible in an endeavour to obtain a midfield position. Forced wider on the track in the early stages. After being caught wide in the early stages, the mare was restrained by its rider and settled in a mid-back position. Apprentice E. Ljung was fined $100 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

SHEAR VOGUE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ALPENGLOW – Became unbalanced near the 1100m when reluctant to hold its position inside the heels of another runner. Made contact with the running rail near the 900m and became unbalanced.

CHARLES THE THIRD – Slow into stride.

Race 4: PROVINCIAL DISTRIBUTORS BM75 H’CAP – 1000M

ISIS MAGIC – Slow to begin. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 800m, and was eased by its rider. Stewards questioned Apprentice T. Williams in relation to her riding in the early stages of the home straight, and also as to the overall performance of the mare. With respect to her riding in the home straight, Apprentice Williams advised that for some distance prior to entering the home straight, she was aware that the leader (DESTIVA) had a tendency to hang out, and she therefore attempted to secure clear running to the inside of that runner.  She added that upon straightening, when DESTIVA shifted to a one off position, she attempted to improve to the inside of that runner, however shortly after obtaining a position to the inside of that runner ISIS MAGIC had a tendency to lay in onto the rail which required her to straighten her mount. Apprentice Williams went on to say that a short distance later DESTIVA shifted in,  placing her mount in restricted room and resulting in it making contact with the running rail and becoming unbalanced. In relation to the mare’s overall performance, Apprentice Williams advised that she was forced to steady from heels near the 800m and, in her opinion, due to the difficulty she had obtaining clear running in the home straight, the mare was not suited to having its momentum affected as a result of these incidents. She also noted the mare’s significant weight impost in this race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Bearing in mind the overall finishing position of the mare, Stewards accepted Apprentice Williams’ explanation with respect to her riding in the home straight. A swab sample was taken from the mare.

DYLAN’S LUCK – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Shifted out to secure clear running near the 300m, and bumped another runner.
