GENERAL

As N. Tomizawa and J. Bayliss were unable to arrive on course to fulfil their respective engagements in Races 1, 2, 3 and 7 due to a delay at the Doomben meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: COMPLETE BATHROOMS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1050M

MINI MELD – Raced wide without cover throughout.

JONZALI – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EMTEVEE QUEEN – Threw its head in the air on jumping away and lost ground. Momentarily steadied when placed in restricted room near the 800m.

SEQ THE STAR – Stewards questioned jockey R. Williams in relation to the tactics adopted on the mare which settled further forward today than its established racing pattern. Jockey Williams advised that when she rode the mare at its last start at Dalby on 28 April 2018, she was instructed not to overly pressure her mount in the early stages as it was the stable’s opinion that the mare was suspect at running out the 1400m of that race. Jockey Williams added that as the mare had been freshened up and was dropping back in distance today, she was instructed to ride her mount more aggressively in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a forward position. Jockey Williams went on to say that she was able to ride her mount in a forward position and obtained the lead. As trainer R. Lipp was not present at the meeting today, Stewards will interview him at a later date in relation to the tactics adopted by jockey Williams.

MONTE LAGO – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

COL’S TIGER – Raced wide without cover throughout. Steadied from heels near the 400m.

Race 2: DOLLEY CONCRETING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

MAHARNI – Began awkwardly.

CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Began awkwardly.

FINE EYES – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: PENGELLY TRUCK & TRAILERS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1210M

HARADIFY – Bumped on jumping away. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

LAREBIL – Buffeted between runners on jumping away and lost ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.

Race 4: GARDEN CITY REFRIGERATION & AIR BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 2030M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted the connections of TISANI GREY, the third placegetter, to view the photo finish print.  After viewing the print, the connections were satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

TISANI GREY – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion. Cast the near-fore plate in running.

HAVEN DUKE – Trainer N. Hocking advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden forward today. The horse was ridden accordingly.

REAL MONTE – Jockey R. Ride reported that, in her opinion, the filly failed to run out the 2030m of today’s race.

LONELY HEARTS CLUB – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Steadied when placed in restricted room whilst weakening near the 400m.

Race 5: SOLOMON CARPETS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M

THE SHOWMAN – Bumped shortly after the start and was eased by its rider and, as a result, settled further back than anticipated.

BEAU RIVA – Jumped with its head in the air.

LITTLE MISTER – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

Race 6: GREENRIDGE QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 870M

STELLA’S DREAM – Steadied after being crossed by another runner in the early stages.

LOVESON – Made heavy contact with the running rail passing the 300m. Stewards questioned trainer B. Lunney with respect to the improved performance of the gelding. Mr. Lunney advised that after the horse was successful at the Sunshine Coast two starts ago, he had expected a forward showing at that same venue at its most recent start, however after the gelding performed disappointingly on that occasion, he elected to freshen the gelding as he was not entirely satisfied with its post-race recovery. Mr. Lunney added that the gelding had been working well in preparation for today’s race and based on the horse’s previous form, with the exception of its last start, he had expected a forward showing today. Stewards noted the explanation.

RHYTHM OF LIGHT – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

Race 7: HANCOCK BUILDERS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1650M

The connections of FAKE NEWS (Beau Appo), placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against MAQUEREAU (N. Tomizawa) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that from turning for home until a point inside the 100m, MAQUEREAU remained sufficiently clear of FAKE NEWS despite MAQUEREAU shifting ground both inwards and outwards and, as a result, had no effect on the running of FAKE NEWS. Stewards did find however that nearing the 50m, MAQUEREAU shifted inwards resulting in FAKE NEWS altering course outwards across the heels of MAQUEREAU. However, bearing in mind the proximity of this incident to the winning post and the three quarter length finishing margin between both runners, Stewards were not of the view that any interference suffered to FAKE NEWS was sufficient to uphold the protest, and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inconvenienced by another runner near the 50m.

MORE FRIENDS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

THE PONY – Tightened for room at the start. Steadied from heels whilst being restrained for some distance passing the 1400m. Improved onto heels and was checked by its rider passing the 800m. Apprentice R. Goldsbury could offer no explanation for the filly’s seemingly disappointing performance.

FAKE NEWS – Steadied from heels when racing keenly near the 1400m. Disappointed for a run near the 350m and lost ground.

QUEEN BEATRICE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
