MORE THAN MONEY – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start. Tightened for room and checked near the 200m and, as a result, lost ground. R. Goltz, the rider of BURNING MOUNTAIN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MORE THAN MONEY resulting in that runner being tightened for room and losing ground. R. Goltz’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 June 2018 and expire at midnight on Monday 2 July 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Goltz’s previous good record in relation to this rule.

DIDN’T MENTION IT – Raced with its head in the air when racing keenly for some distance approaching the 800m.

HIGHER LOVE – Slow to begin. Lost a plate in running.
ANGEL DANE – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels at the 600m and was steadied. Disappointed for a run to the inside of a tiring runner leaving the 200m and, as a result, was checked and lost ground. Lost a plate in running.
SAME OLD STORY – Steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner rounding the home turn.
ROCK DANCER – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn.
Race 4: JOE WAGNER GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
THEOUTLAWSDAUGHTER dislodged Apprentice S. Sweeney upon arriving at the barriers, and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured. Apprentice Sweeney was not injured as a result of this incident. Stewards declared the filly a late scratching at 6.27pm. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on THEOUTLAWSDAUGHTER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
0 cents in the dollar for the win #2
9 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable R. Goltz, the rider of the second placegetter, TAPROCK, to view the photo finish print.
WHITMAN – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, Trainer Mr. B. Currie advised that prior to the horse’s first start it had jumped out well, and he had expected a forward showing, however he had been disappointed with its performance on that occasion. He went on to say that following its first run the gelding had improved in its trackwork, and as it now had some race experience he had expected an improvement on its first race start. He added that he was however surprised that the gelding had won today. Stewards noted the explanation.
TAPROCK – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
CHOCOLATE SHOP – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MY HAPPY PLACE – Tightened for room and checked near the 100m. R. Williams, the rider of STANNIS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 100m when insufficiently clear of MY HAPPY PLACE resulting in that runner being tightened for room and checked. Jockey Williams’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 June 2018 and expire at midnight on Sunday 1 July 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Williams’ guilty plea and her previous good record in relation to this rule.
LOVE AND LAUGHTER – Slow to begin.
Race 5: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M
RULER’S PRIDE - Threw its head in the air whilst being restrained when racing keenly approaching the 1000m.
LITTLE JOHN – Laid in in the early stages of the home straight resulting in the rider changing the whip to her right hand, and a short distance later the horse shifted wider on the track.
THUMBS UP – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn before being shifted to the outside to secure clear running near the 200m, and a short distance later was forced wider on the track by another runner.
THEATRIC – After beginning well, settled in a more forward position than expected. Threw its head in the air whilst being restrained when racing keenly approaching the 1000m. Threw its head in the air and shifted out when racing keenly at the 900m and, as a result, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels.
Race 6: NRG SERVICES BM75 H’CAP – 1640M
Upon arriving at the barriers, it was observed that there was blood present in one of KINCAPLE CHIEF’s nostrils. A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified a small laceration at the entrance of the nostril consistent with external trauma. The gelding was subsequently passed fit to start.
AMERICAN FRONTIER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that, in her opinion, the major contributing factor to the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance was that it overraced in the early and middle stages whilst being pressured by another runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KINCAPLE CHIEF – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer Mr. J. Smerdon advised that in his opinion the gelding, which was dropping significantly in weight today, was suited by the addition of blinkers back on the horse’s gear in a race which he believes was of a lesser quality than the horse had been facing at its previous starts. Stewards noted the explanation.
CHARLES THE THIRD – Slow to begin.
Race 7: DGT MAIDEN PLATE – 1640M
HAYNATRID – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Mr. G. Teal was advised that the nomination of the gelding would be refused at TAB meetings until it has established form at non-TAB venues.
ROCKING OSSIE – Slow to begin.
BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
ROCK TSAR – Declared at a late scratching at 5.05pm on veterinary advice. The gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
THE IRONS – Jumped the crossing near the 1500m. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
FAKE NEWS – After beginning well, the filly was forced to race in a 3 wide position before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a leading position approaching the 1300m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.
