GENERAL
 
As Apprentice B. Nothdurft was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: CRT CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1625M
 
A pre-race blood sample was taken from each runner in this race.
 
CHARLES THE THIRD – Slow into stride. Apprentice S. Sweeney was fined $400 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Sweeney’s previous good record in relation to this rule.
 
Race 2: BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M
 
The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
HEART OF KINGS – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to its off hind coronet band.
 
DYNAMISANTE – Stewards accepted Trainer K. Kemp’s explanation for the late declaration of Beau Appo as rider.
 
TOY – Bumped by a runner to its inside and forced to steady from heels near the 700m, and again at the 550m.
 
GREY FACTOR – Stewards accepted Trainer B. Currie’s explanation for the late declaration of J. Oliver as rider.
 
SCHERBATSKY – Steadied when placed in restricted room for a short distance near the 450m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.
 
THE LAST SEQUALO – When questioned by Stewards in relation to her looking to her inside on a number of occasions from the 500m until turning for home, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that she was forced to race in a 4 wide position for the majority of the race, and from the 500m it was her intention to attempt to cross SECLUDE which was racing to her inside. Jockey Bogenhuber added that as her mount was only travelling fairly at that point of the race, it took her some time to be clear of that runner to cross, and for that reason she had a number of looks to her inside to ensure she was satisfactorily clear to cross at that point. She also added that from near the 400m, after eventually crossing SECLUDE, she would have preferred to shift to a position one off the fence however as HEART OF KINGS had improved quickly to her inside she was not clear to cross and, as a result, remained in a 3 wide position entering the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
Race 3: EQUIPMEC TRIPLE MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M
 
OUR RED DOG – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 700m to the outside of SNAP AND GO which laid out slightly.
 
DANCES WITH TIME – Slow to begin.
 
SQUALL – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly poor performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised that after beginning well his mount was unable to muster sufficient pace to cross the runners to its inside and, as a result, was forced to race wide throughout. He added that the filly only travelled reasonably throughout the race, and when placed under pressure in the home straight ran on only fairly.  He further added that, in his opinion, the horse would be better suited in races over greater distances than that of today’s race. Trainer S. Tregea agreed with jockey Tomizawa’s comments, and advised that he would like to step the filly up in distance at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the filly.
 
KIMHORSEDASHIAN – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
COUNTLESS ROCK – Raced greenly throughout.
 
SNAP AND GO – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the mare’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.
 
MI INSTINCT – Began awkwardly and, as a result, made heavy contact with the barrier partition on jumping away.

Race 4: HOME TIMBER & HARDWARE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when OUR MOMENTO became fractious in the barriers and, as a result, had to be examined by the veterinary surgeon. The horse was subsequently passed fit to start.
 
RED MONKEY – Slow to begin.
 
THOR FOOT – Declared a late scratching at 9.11am on veterinary advice.
 
DAISY’S APART – Raced in blinkers at its previous start in error, and therefore raced without blinkers today. Hung out throughout. Steadied from heels at the 50m.
 
HEATHER JOAN – Slow to begin.
 
IDIDITMYWAY – Slow to begin.
 
HIDDEN ACTION – Commenced to hang out from the 800m and continued to hang out for the remainder. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice H. Phillips and Trainer R. Drysdale could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance, however Mr. Drysdale advised that he will experiment with the horse’s gear for its next start. Mr. Drysdale undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the horse’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the horse.
 
OUR MOMENTO – Jockey Beau Appo reported that at its most recent start the mare had a tendency to race keenly in the early and middle stages when ridden along to a forward position, and for that reason he elected to ride the mare along in the early stages and, as a consequence, settled in a mid-back position.
 
DEMESNE – Raced ungenerously for a short distance and shifted wider on the track when attempting to restrain to a position closer to the rail near the 900m.
 
Race 5: PITTSWORTH HARDWARE CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when LOVA YA MRS became fractious in the barriers and, as a result, had to be examined by the veterinary surgeon. The horse was subsequently passed fit to start.
 
PRIORITISE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and, after being crossed near the 800m, was forced to shift out to avoid heels and, as a result, raced 3 wide for the remainder.
 
CALYPSO BAY – Held up from the 350m until near the 250m.
 
EL VENETIAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
CHASE THE WIND – Slipped on jumping away and, as a result, lost ground.
 
MR CHOW – Held up from the 500m until near the 250m.
 
I AM THE WARRIOR – Steadied from heels leaving the 100m.
 
Race 6: RAFF GROUP BM75 H’CAP – 1000M
 
BERGERAC – Forced to alter course to the inside to secure clear running passing the 200m, and was then held up on the heels of tiring runners over the final 100m.
 
APOLOBOOM – Jumped with its head in the air at the start and was then tightened for room and, as a result, lost ground and settled further back in the field than anticipated. Apprentice C. Bayliss reported that his mount hung out throughout.
 
ISIS MAGIC – When questioned by Stewards regarding the mare’s seemingly improved performance, Trainer B. Currie advised that the mare was not suited to the firm racing surfaces at its most recent starts at Dalby and Gatton. He went on to say that two starts ago at Toowoomba he was unable to offer an explanation for the mare’s seemingly disappointing performance.  He also advised that, in his opinion, today’s racing surface, combined with racing at a track where the mare has an exceptional record, were the major contributing factors to the horse’s improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
AGAPANTHA – Apprentice J. Murphy reported that his mount did not travel strongly at any point in the race, and that it felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a speedy cut to the horse’s off hind leg.
 
HIGH COST – Stewards questioned Apprentice J. Hodge regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly with respect to the tempo he set in the middle stages of the race. Apprentice Hodge advised that from a midfield draw, after beginning well, he rode his mount forward in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a forward position. He advised that after doing some work to cross AGAPANTHA he was able to secure the leading position near the 900m where he was challenged by ISIS MAGIC to his outside for a short distance. Apprentice Hodge went on to say that from the 700m when the gelding was, in his opinion, travelling comfortably, he elected not to overly restrain the horse resulting in him setting the tempo he did in the middle stages. Having had the opportunity to view the patrol footage, Apprentice Hodge agreed with Stewards that he erred in his riding between the 700m and the 400m by not attempting to restrain the gelding more than he did which would have afforded it a better opportunity to finish the race off. Stewards advised Apprentice Hodge that this ride fell below the standard required at provincial meetings however, bearing in mind his status as an apprentice rider, they took the matter no further other than to refer his ride to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Department for further tuition.
 
SIR BAM – Tightened for room at the start.
 
Race 7: HELLO HARRY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M
 
EMTEVEE QUEEN – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn before being shifted to the inside to secure clear running in the home straight.
 
FIVE SPICES – Jockey L. McCoy could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly disappointing performance.
 
HIDDEN SEQUEL – Steadied from heels when racing keenly for some distance passing the 600m. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
RICH TRADITION – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MANKINI LOVE – Trainer N. Hocking was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.
 
Race 8: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
 
FAOLAN – After being crossed near the 900m the gelding, which was racing keenly, was checked to avoid the heels of another runner.
 
NOBLE BILLY – Jockey J. Oliver permitted his mount to stride forward after being caught wide in the early stages, before assuming the leading position approaching the 700m.
 
TIMPERLEY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
COURTING JOY – Lost a plate on jumping away.
 
CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Raced wide with cover throughout. Steadied leaving the 300m when COURTING JOY (L. Tilley) shifted out to secure clear running and FAOLAN (Beau Appo) shifted in. Jockeys L. Tilley and Beau Appo were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
 
SOLO ARTIST – Steadied from heels near the 900m.
 
WHISTLINDIXIE LAD – Raced wide with cover throughout.
