Race 1: LINCOLNS LEGACY BM60 H’CAP – 1625M
SCAPA COVE – Raced 3 wide with cover after passing the 800m. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m. Apprentice G. Willoughby reported that the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer Mr. R. Hay advised that he may experiment with some gear changes prior to the horse’s next start.
CASHINKO – Slipped behind on jumping away, and lost considerable ground. Had a tendency to lay in after passing the 1100m, and brushed the running rail of its own accord.
WHITMAN – Began awkwardly. Hung out rounding the turn passing the 1300m, and was then caught 3 wide with cover and raced ungenerously for a short distance.
WAKE UP JEFF – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
THE BARRACUDA – Restrained from the heels of WHITMAN passing the 1300m when that runner shifted in slightly.
DELANEY’S DESIRE – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained from heels.
REDHAZE – Bumped on jumping away. When questioned by Stewards, Trainer Mr. K. Kemp advised that in light of today’s poor performance he will now send the gelding for a spell.
Race 2: PUMA WARWICK CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider an objection lodged by the connections of SONADOR FIRE, which finished 5th, against LITTLE JOHN being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties involved and viewing the official patrol films, Stewards were of the opinion that SONADOR FIRE was impeded by LITTLE JOHN, however bearing in mind the margin between the two runners at the finish, and the way in which both horses finished the race off, they could not be satisfied that SONADOR FIRE would have beaten LITTLE JOHN home had the interference not occurred, and therefore dismissed the objection.
Stewards also considered an objection lodged by the connections of BEACH DRUM, which finished 2nd, against LITTLE JOHN being declared the winner, alleging interference passing the 200m. After taking evidence from the parties involved and viewing the official patrol films, Stewards were of the view that BEACH DRUM had been impeded and taken off its line passing the 200m, and shifted wider on the track due to an outward shift from SONADOR FIRE which was taken out by LITTLE JOHN. Stewards were of the opinion that the interference suffered to BEACH DRUM was as a consequence of the shift outwards from LITTLE JOHN and, given the way in which both horses finished off the race, and the short head margin between the two runners, they were satisfied that had the interference not occurred, BEACH DRUM would have beaten LITTLE JOHN, and therefore upheld the objection. Correct weight was declared on the amended placings as follows: 1st BEACH DRUM, 2nd LITTLE JOHN, 3rd THUMBS UP and 4th RULER’S PRIDE.
FISH BONES FRY – Commenced to overrace after passing the 1100m, and was crowded for room at that point when LITTLE JOHN laid in slightly.
MORNING FARE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Bumped by BOWIES BAYCONI (R. Williams) rounding the home turn when that runner was taken out by BEACH DRUM (Apprentice R. Goldsbury). Apprentice R. Goldsbury was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
LITTLE JOHN – Commenced to lay out under riding after passing the 300m, and bumped SONADOR FIRE which became unbalanced.
RULER’S PRIDE – Restrained from heels and got its head in the air passing the 1100m and, as a result, raced ungenerously for a short distance.
THUMBS UP – Restrained to a position closer to the rail after beginning moderately. Held up from the 400m until entering the home straight.
BEACH DRUM – Bumped by FISH BONES FRY passing the 1100m. Had to alter course approaching the 200m when forced wider on the track by SONADOR FIRE which was taken out by LITTLE JOHN.
BOWIES BAYCONI – Tightened for room rounding the home turn, and had to be steadied when BEACH DRUM shifted out to improve.
Race 3: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1100M
The start of this race was initially delayed due to the protest in Race 2. The start was further delayed due to Queensland Ambulance Officers attending to an ill patron on course.
MAKE A RULER – Raced 3 wide in the early stages before being pressed forward to obtain the lead leaving the 800m. Hung out rounding the home turn.
GO GET SUM – Held up from the 400m until entering the home straight.
BOGEY MAN – Began awkwardly.
FLAVIAN – Bumped passing the 400m when MAKE A RULER hung out.
Race 4: CSR EARTHWORKS CLASS 1 PLATE – 1100M
PUNDIT – Laid out rounding the home turn.
CONWOMAN – Improved to the inside of PUNDIT of its own accord approaching the 400m, and had to be steadied away from that runner’s heels and, as a result, was held up until entering the home straight.
STAR OF COLUMBIA – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. A warning was placed on the horse’s barrier manners.
Race 5: THE JOURNEY BM65 H’CAP – 870M
I DO CARE – Began awkwardly.
BRAVE DAZZLER – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the 150m, and had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
NOOR DROPPER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
GOLFING – Laid in rounding the home turn.
Race 6: EXCAVATION EQUIPMENT QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
ARCHER’S TREASURE – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance after passing the 800m.
FISH BURGER – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early stages until finding a position outside the leader passing the 600m.
JETSEVENTEEN – Bumped shortly after the start. Momentarily hampered passing the 1100m when awkwardly placed at the heels of FISH BURGER which laid in at that point. Hung out rounding the home turn.
MULGA THUMPER – Hampered slightly passing the 100m.
TRUSTY LAD – Slow to begin. Held up slightly passing the 200m. Laid in for a short distance passing the 100m when obtaining clear running.
COME ALIVE – Steadied away from heels approaching the 200m, and raced greenly from that point.
LET’S BOOM – Steadied away from the heels of ARCHER’S TREASURE (S. Bogenhuber) approaching the 900m when that runner was taken in by FISH BURGER (Apprentice R. Goldsbury). Apprentice R. Goldsbury was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
Race 7: JOYCE MAYNE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
C’MOME PADDYREILLY – Began awkwardly and shifted out, and approaching the 1200m clipped the heels of STANNIS and almost dislodged its rider. Bumped by SOZZLED (Apprentice M. Schrapel) approaching the 150m when that runner shifted in. Apprentice M. Schrapel was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Bumped and hampered approaching the 100m.
HIGHER LOVE – Trainer Mr. P. Nolan Jnr. advised that the gelding has always worked well, however it had raced greenly at its first start. He added that the gelding had improved in its work in the lead up to today’s race and, in his opinion, it appreciated the step up in distance today as well as the drop in weight. Stewards noted the explanation.
IN SEATTLE – Hampered on jumping away. Commenced to overrace approaching the 900m, and had to be steadied away from heels, and shifted wider on the track. Raced 3 wide with cover from the 800m.
STANNIS – Bumped on jumping away. Taken in by PAT’S GIRL passing the 1250m. N. Evans, the rider of PAT’S GIRL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 1250m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of STANNIS causing that runner to be checked and shift in, tightening C’MOME PADDYREILLY which clipped heels and blundered almost dislodging its rider. N. Evans’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 7 July 2018 and expire at midnight on Sunday 15 July 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Evans’ guilty plea and his previous good record in relation to this rule. Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from heels approaching the 900m.
TAPROCK – Slow to begin. Steadied away from heels whilst overracing passing the 900m.
MANHATTAN STYLE – Awkwardly placed at the heels of IN SEATTLE approaching the 900m when that runner shifted out and, as a result, MANHATTAN STYLE was steadied to avoid heels.
PAT’S GIRL – Bumped and hampered approaching the 100m.
TAH DAH – Bumped on jumping away. Bumped and hampered approaching the 100m.
SOZZLED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Laid in under riding passing the 200m. Laid in after passing the 200m, and then shifted in under riding approaching the 100m. Shifted the near hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the filly’s off hind hock and coronet, which was treated by the club veterinarian.
