GENERAL

Due to a delay caused by a lighting failure, the start time of Race 3 was amended to 6.18pm.

Race 1: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE BM70 H’CAP – 1050M

BOGEY MAN – Began awkwardly. Checked when tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 900m.

I DO CARE – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

MAKE A RULER – Forced wider on the track passing the 800m, and then raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder.

BRAVE DAZZLER – Held up for a short distance near the 150m.

AMBER JEWEL – Checked from the heels of MY MAISIE (R. Ride) approaching the 850m when that runner was taken in by SEQ THE STAR (R. Williams). Jockey R. Williams was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.

Race 2: SMOKE & MIRRORS BOUTIQUE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1210M

On leaving the enclosure TEDDER AVENUE cast a plate which required farrier attention.

During the running of this race a partial lighting failure was observed at various sections of the track, however Stewards were satisfied that it did not affect the running of the race as there was sufficient natural light.

BALLINGALL LASS – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m.

SALTARELLO – Refused to jump and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer L. Paton advised that in light of this incident, it is now her intention for the horse to leave her stable. Nevertheless, Ms. Paton was advised that the horse will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

MANKINI LOVE – Trainer N. Hocking was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

Race 3: CREATE WITH COTTEE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1640M

THUMBS UP – Dwelt as the start was effected and lost ground. Jockey E. Ljung reported that her mount began only fairly and travelled comfortably throughout the run, however when placed under pressure from the 500m the mare ran on only fairly. Trainer K. Kemp advised that, in his opinion, the mare may have failed to run out the 1640m of this race, and he will now consider dropping the horse back in distance for its future starts.

COOLMUNDA – Trainer P. Sexton advised that it would be the intention for the filly to be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The filly settled in the second half of the field. Raced fiercely for some distance in the early and middle stages, and proved difficult to restrain. When questioned by Stewards as to why he did not allow the filly to stride forward whilst it was racing fiercely upon entering the back straight, particularly bearing in mind that the pre-race instructions were to be in a more forward position, jockey J. Oliver advised that as the filly had a tendency to hang out whilst overracing, he had formed the opinion that his mount would be better suited if he attempted to find cover, which would enable the filly to relax better in the race, rather than allow it to stride forward wide on the track without cover. He added that when able to obtain a position with cover approaching the 1000m, the filly commenced to race tractably, and proved much easier to ride from that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: REMEMBERING PETER MCDOUGALL MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

Due to the amended start time of Race 3, the start of this race was delayed slightly.

KIMHORSEDASHIAN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out throughout. A warning was placed on the gelding. Bumped approaching the 100m, and became unbalanced.

GOOLBURRA GUY – Following the race, Apprentice S. Sweeney was reminded of her obligations regarding the use of her whip. When considering the matter, Stewards took into account the totality of Apprentice Sweeney’s whip use.

STANNIS – Slow to muster early speed. Raced ungenerously near the 900m. Steadied from heels approaching the 300m. Buffeted approaching the 100m when tightened for room by KIMHORSEDASHIAN (S. Bogenhuber) which shifted in marginally. Jockey S. Bogenhuber was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

Race 5: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA QTIS 2YO AND 3YO MAIDEN – 1000M

HONEST NATALIE – Trainer R. Smith was fined $100 for failing to produce the Horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Began awkwardly.

LIL RUBY ROSE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

CYCLONE KAYCEE – Began awkwardly. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 900m. Raced wide without cover throughout.

REAL PATRIOT – Jockey E. Ljung reported that, in her opinion, the gelding got its tongue back during the race, and she has recommended to connections that a tongue-tie be added to the horse’s gear prior to its next start.

WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

Race 6: VANDERFIELD JOHN DEERE MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable jockey R. Williams, the rider of the 3rd placegetter, SPRING GLORY, to view the Stewards' patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether she had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter, HAVRAN. After viewing the film, jockey Williams indicated that she did not wish to proceed.

The declaration of correct weight was further delayed to enable App. J. Hodge, the rider of the 2nd placegetter, DANCES WITH TIME, to view the Stewards patrol footage near the 500m to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter HAVRAN. After viewing the film, Apprentice Hodge indicated that he did not wish to proceed.

SCENTS OF HENRY – Hung in badly throughout, and proved difficult to ride. A warning was placed on the gelding.

SPRING GLORY – Checked when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the 650m. Apprentice R. Goldsbury, the rider of HOT CORONA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 650m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPRING GLORY resulting in that runner being checked when awkwardly placed at heels for some distance. Apprentice Goldsbury’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 24 July 2018 and expire at midnight on Thursday 2 August 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Goldsbury’s previous good record in relation to this rule. Bumped near the 150m, and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, it will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

Race 7: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1300M

DAZET – Shifted out to secure clear running rounding the home turn.
