QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 4 AUGUST 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – TRUE RAIL – GOOD 4PENETROMETER – 4.98 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R. HitchenerStewards – B. Cooke, J. Childs, T. PrestonBetting Steward – ClubClerk of Scales – ClubJudge – Club Veterinarian – F. Viljoen, A. MurdochSwab Attendants – L. Sutcliffe, R. BurchmannStarter – P. BrennanStewards Secretary – M. Weir GENERAL As Apprentice G. Willoughby was indisposed due to injury, a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 1 PLATE – 1625M FAOLAN – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained near the 1000m, and shifted wider on the track. SILENT FLYER – Held up at the heels of tiring runners for a considerable distance in the home straight, and was unable to improve until shifting to the outside to secure clear running approaching the 100m. SQUEAK’S BOY – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. STANNIS – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Inconvenienced by another runner near the 1000m, and forced wider on the track for a short distance. Race 2: ITHINK PROPERTY QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 870M Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted the connections of 4th placegetter WEARETENFORTYEIGHT, to view the Stewards' patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection. After viewing the film, the connections indicated that they did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers. REAL PATRIOT – Jockey N. Tomizawa could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance, however he advised that his mount travelled well until placed under pressure in the home straight where it failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. MISS KOKO – Bumped at the start. MISS MOSS – Hung out rounding the home turn. NO DOUBT ACRACKER – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid the heels of WEARETENFORTYEIGHT (E. Ljung) near the 150m when that runner shifted out to secure clear running when not completely clear. Jockey E. Ljung was reprimanded as a result of this incident. GLOBAL FACTOR – Began awkwardly. Laid in over the final 150m. WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 800m. Raced greenly throughout, and had a tendency to lay in over the final 150m. Race 3: THE BAVARIAN BM62 H’CAP – 2100M WAKE UP JEFF – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr. M. Nolan will be advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. CANTILLATE – Slow to begin. Race 4: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when ROCK GARDEN had to be resaddled upon arriving at the barriers. ROCK GARDEN – Steadied from heels approaching the 900m. BEL BEAU – Stewards questioned jockey N. Tomizawa in relation to his riding near the 200m where he elected to shift to the outside of ROCK GARDEN (R. Williams) to secure clear running when there appeared to be a clear run for him to obtain to the inside of that runner. Jockey Tomizawa advised that in the early stages of the home straight ROCK GARDEN appeared to commence to shift in whilst jockey R. Williams was riding with the whip in her left hand and, for that reason, he elected to shift to the outside to secure clear running to obtain an unimpeded run to the finish, rather than risk interference from that runner should it continue to lay in. Having had the opportunity to view the Stewards patrol footage, jockey Tomizawa acknowledged that as ROCK GARDEN had straightened, it would have been more advantageous for him to take the run to the inside of that runner. Stewards noted the explanation. CHICOUTIMI – Held up for some distance rounding the home turn. VICTORY STAR – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. HOLUS BOLUS – Steadied from heels approaching the 700m. Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. BENICSTRESS – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. Race 5: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M EMTEVEE QUEEN – Tightened for room shortly after the start. HARBOUR TRICK – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start and lost ground. EMBRACE THE DATE – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority. CANTON ROAD – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Race 6: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M NIVO – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer Mr. P. Sexton advised that the mare was having its first start for his stable today, and he was therefore unable to comment on its previous performances. Mr. Sexton advised that the mare had performed well in a jump out on Tuesday 31 July 2018 in preparation for today’s race and, for this reason, he had expected a forward showing today. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 7: JOE WAGNER GROUP BM75 H’CAP – 1850M TISANI GREY – Stewards questioned jockey N. Tomizawa in relation to the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly from the 1000m where he shifted to a 3 wide position to improve into the race. Jockey Tomizawa advised that due to the very slow tempo set in the middle stages, he felt that it would be more advantageous to allow his mount to stride forward at that point in an endeavour to either lead or cross JACK STRIKES BACK to a position outside the leader. He went on to say that after committing to improve to the outside of JACK STRIKES BACK, the runners to his inside quickened the tempo of the race. Further, as a result of causing tightening to JACK STRIKES BACK as he moved forward of that runner, whilst correcting his mount, it lost momentum and, as a result, was unable to cross the runners to his inside. Jockey Tomizawa also stated that after being caught wide, he considered restraining to his original position trailing JACK STRIKES BACK, however he felt he would have had to excessively restrain the gelding at that point to reobtain this position. Stewards noted the explanation. JACK STRIKES BACK – Tightened for room near the 900m to the inside of TISANI GREY (N. Tomizawa) which shifted in. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded as a result of this incident. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees ReprimandsRace 2. E. Ljung – careless riding – AR. 137(a)Race 7. N.
