GENERAL

As jockey B. Pengelly and Apprentice H. Phillips were unable to fulfil their engagements as they were riding at other venues, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: DAFFODIL DAY CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

SINGAPORE FLING – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

NANITA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ROTINDY – Began very awkwardly and almost dislodged its rider and, as a result, lost considerable ground.

ROSEXCEL – Hung in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

ATOMIC MISSILE – Held up rounding the home turn until the early stages of the home straight.

Race 2: TAYLOR BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 870M

DISTRICT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m.

THE REAL BOSS – Inconvenienced by another runner for a short distance shortly after the start.

I’M NO RUBY – Slow to begin.

STAR PAINTER – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m.

TOECANARGIE MAN – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: HY-TEC CONCRETE & QUARRIES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice R. Goldsbury, the rider of 4th placegetter PABULUM, to view the photo-finish print for 3rd. After viewing the print, she was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

FIRST WAVE – Knuckled on jumping away.

KIMHORSEDASHIAN – Bumped by another runner and steadied from heels near the 600m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running, and was buffeted between runners, leaving the 100m.

MIKURO – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Connections will be advised that the filly will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting an abnormal breathing noise consistent with it having a soft palette.

ROCK GARDEN – Jockey J. Oliver could offer no explanation for the mare’s performance which was below market expectation.

BEL BEAU – Began awkwardly and, as a result, made contact with the barrier partition. Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced near the 50m. Raced 3 wide throughout.

STRYKINGLY SO – Laid in in the home straight. Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced leaving the 100m.

Race 4: JOE WAGNER GROUP CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1210M

The start of this race was delayed when the hock bandage on PSYCHO SAID SO shifted and had to be removed behind the barriers.

I’VE GOT FRIENDS – Began awkwardly.

Race 5: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1640M

BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ROOSTER HUNTER – Raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages.

SHEZA GOOD GIRL – Overraced in the early stages and, as a result, settled more forward than anticipated.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin.

DIZZY SPELL – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 6: TOOWOOMBA REGION ROSES PRELUDE 1 BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1110M

BECKHAM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Apprentice J. Hodge reported that his stirrup leather became detached passing the 600m placing him at a significant disadvantage for the remainder.

DAZZLING RED – Momentarily steadied from heels over the concluding stages.

LAST ARMAGEDDON – Commenced to hang out near the 700m until entering the home straight.

MISHANI SHIRAZ – Shifted out near the 150m to obtain clear running.

Race 7: HAPPILY EVER AFTER DAVE & JACQUELINE MAIDEN PLATE – 1880M

ASTANA took charge of its rider during the preliminary and galloped a considerable distance before being restrained. The horse was declared a late scratching at 8:43pm on veterinary advice. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ASTANA be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

6 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4

PASSIONATE PRINCE – Commenced to weaken rounding the home turn and made contact with the running rail.

DELZALI – Slow to begin.

SATISFIED – Blundered at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 450m in which DELZALI (App. L. Kilner) was tightened for room and lost ground. After taking evidence from a number of riders and viewing the available films, Stewards found that DELZALI was tightened for room when racing to the inside of CLEAR SAILING (R. Goltz) which was in turn tightened when taken in by I’M ANTMAN (N. Tomizawa). As Stewards were unable to establish on the films available if I’M ANTMAN, when commencing to weaken, shifted in of its own accord at that point or whether SOHO FLYER (J. Woodhouse), which was racing to the outside, had shifted in leaving insufficient room for the runners to its inside, they afforded the benefit of the doubt to jockey Woodhouse as to whether he was fully responsible for this incident, and took the matter no further.
