QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – 8TH SEPTEMBER 2018. WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 3m 800-300 – 4m Remainder PENETROMETER – 4.87 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – J Childs, L Hicks, T WhiteClerk of Scales – ClubJudge – ClubVeterinarian – F ViljoenSwab Attendants – L Sutcliffe, R BurchmannStarter – P Brennan Race 1: DC ADVISORY GROUP Class 1 H’Cap 1210m The start was delayed when ZARFOX became fractious in the barriers. After being removed from the barriers, underwent a Veterinary Inspection and was passed fit to start. Stewards questioned Jockey E. Ljung in relation to the disappointing performance of the gelding. Jockey Ljung advised that the gelding travelled only fairly in the early stages and took significant riding to obtain a forward position. She added that from the 700m the gelding commenced to weaken, at which point she became concerned with its breathing and for that reason she desisted riding the gelding out over the concluding stages. Trainer Ben Currie expressed disappointment in the performance of the gelding however noted that it has a history of breathing issues which he felt was the major contributing factor in tonight’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal breathing noise. MISHANI SILVA – Slow to begin. TOORAK COMEDY- Began awkwardly. LUCKY MACHU – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid the heels of TOORAK COMEDY near the 350m when that runner shifted out abruptly when not completely clear. App Shimodaira the rider of TOORAK COMEDY was severely reprimanded. CROSSING THE TEE – Began awkwardly and raced wide with cover throughout. Bumped by another runner near the 350m. BY THE LAW – Raced 3 wide throughout. HAVRAN – Bumped at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer K Jones was advised that he will be required to obtain Veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to it next racing. SIREEANNA – Cast its near hind plate in running. Race 2: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT Class 4 H’Cap 1300m MR CHOW – Trainer Ben Currie was fine $100 for failing to produce the horses Thoroughbred ID Card. NOBLE BILLY – Began slowly and was then steadied from heels shortly after start. CALYPSO BAY – Slow to begin. SHOW ‘EM – Over raced during the early stages. Stewards questioned Jockey E Ljung in relation to the seemingly poor performance. Jockey Ljung advised that after beginning well the gelding obtained a forward position however shortly after the start it commenced to over race and proved difficult to restrain until a point near the 700m. She added that from passing the 600m, the gelding commenced to weaken and in her opinion was most disappointing. Trainer T Sears expressed disappointment in the geldings performance however noted in his opinion it is better suited when able to obtain cover in its races. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post race recovery. Race 3: SHARPE WORKPLACE SOLUTIONS Maiden Plate 1050m CHASING ACRES - Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding which tailed off revealed it to have a slow post race recovery. THE BIG HOUSE – Slow to begin. Hung in near the 900m and was forced to be steadied by its rider to avoid heels. ROCK GARDEN – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn. THE GREAT BOOMBINO – Slow to begin. ANGEL OF WAR – Rider reported that the filly hung in throughout. Race 4: MORGAN’S PLUMBING Maiden H’Cap 1870m VICTORY STAR - Trainer B Robinson advised Stewards that his instructions to Jockey S Lacy would be to ride the gelding back in the field if circumstances permit. Was ridden accordingly. CLEAR SAILING – Just prior to jumping the mare kicked out resulting in it getting its near hind leg caught on the barrier platform and as a result lost considerable ground on jumping away. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ESCAPADO – After becoming fractious in the enclosure, Underwent and veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. Race 5: TOOWOOMBA REGIONS ROSES PRELUDE 2 Benchmark H’Cap 1110m LAST ARMEGEDDON – Slow to begin and hung out during the middle stages. Jockey E Ljung could not offer any explanation to the gelding’s poor performance. Trainer Lindsay Hatch expressed disappointment with tonight’s performance however advised that the gelding has a history of mixing its form. He went on to say the gelding had worked well in preparation for tonight’s event, however in light of tonight’s performance he will now review its current preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
