GENERAL

As C. Franklin and R. Plumb were indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M

THE BIG HOUSE – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

ALL SHIRAZ – Slow into stride. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. R. Williams reported that after obtaining a position to the inside of WEARETENFORTYEIGHT near the 900m, the filly commenced to race ungenerously for a considerable distance. Stewards issued a warning against the filly for its racing manners throughout the event.

WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – E. Ljung could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance, which was below market expectation, other than that in her opinion the filly raced flat today. Trainer K. Kemp expressed some disappointment in the performance of the filly, however in his opinion this was a stronger maiden than others that the filly had been contesting at its most recent starts. He added that he will monitor the filly’s post-race recovery before determining what course to take in its current preparation.

TOY – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer G. Schwenke was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

Race 2: PENGELLY TRUCKS BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 1625M

No racing incidents.

Race 3: LAND TRANSPORT MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

CUPID’S AFFAIR – Shifted wider on the track shortly after beginning awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Commenced to weaken passing the 200m and was steadied to avoid the heels of TONY’S DECREE which shifted in after being bumped by IN YOUR ELEMENT, which was hanging in. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that in his opinion the gelding raced somewhat flat today as it may not have backed up from its last start 2nd placing at Toowoomba on 16 September 2018. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

HEIRSROC – Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the turn near the 1300m. Raced four wide without cover throughout.

NO SHENANIGANS – Hampered on jumping. Tightened for room shortly after the start.

HALF MOON BLUE – Bounded in the air and landed awkwardly in the enclosure. Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to race.

IN YOUR ELEMENT – Bumped another runner when hanging in passing the 200m.

GRATSIE – Hampered on jumping. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced wide with cover throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which was heavily backed, jockey M. Du Plessis advised that the gelding was fractious in the enclosure prior to the event and after jumping raced somewhat keenly throughout. He added that in his opinion the gelding was disadvantaged today, being three weeks between runs and stepping up to the 1625m in today’s event for the first occasion. Jockey Du Plessis added that whilst the performance may have appeared to be disappointing, in his opinion the gelding would take significant benefit out of today’s event.

TONY’S DECREE – Steadied from heels near the 650m. Shifted in after being bumped by another runner passing the 200m.

DINISTY – Held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Hung in over the concluding stages.

BENICSTRESS – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Laid out and shifted wider rounding the turn near the 1300m. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

CHOICE GAL – Laid out rounding the turn near the 1300m. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 150m.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 4: TOOWOOMBA REGION ROSES FINAL BENCHMARK 80 H'CAP – 1200M

BAKER BOY – Checked from the heels of ISIS MAGIC near the 900m when that runner laid in despite the efforts of its rider.

ROSIE POSIE – Disappointed for a run near the 400m. Stewards questioned apprentice S. Sweeney regarding her tactics, in particular rounding the home turn. Of concern to stewards was whether there was an opportunity to attempt to improve into the run between ISIS MAGIC, the eventual winner, and BAKER BOY, which appeared to be presenting itself at that point. Apprentice Sweeney advised that at a point near the 400m she attempted to shift to the outside of the heels of BAKER BOY in an endeavour to secure clear running, however was disappointed for a run at that stage and lost some ground. She added that after being disappointed for that run she elected to shift further to the outside to secure clear running so as to not risk being held up or disappointed for a run for the second occasion in the home straight. Having had the opportunity to view the stewards’ footage, apprentice Sweeney acknowledged that whilst a run did present between ISIS MAGIC and BAKER BOY rounding the home turn, she had already elected to shift to the outside when that run became available and for that reason did not take advantage of that particular run. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 5: TOOWOOMBA REGION SWEET VIOLET CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M

MR MISUNDERSTOOD – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages despite the rider’s efforts to restrain. Returned to the enclosure with blood present in one nostril. The veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the presence of blood was as a result of external trauma and no action was taken. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding, which she advised raced very one-paced in today’s event.

NIVO – Bumped on jumping away. Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 6: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES PAT O’SHEA PLATE – 1000M

ARNWOOD – Hampered at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.

KETSUGI – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding returned to the enclosure lame in the near foreleg and was treated. Trainer J. Zielke was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

ABOVE THE SKY – Hampered at the start. Raced three wide without cover throughout. M. Hellyer reported that the gelding was making an abnormal breathing noise on returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to the near foreleg and near fore cannon. The veterinary surgeon reported that he had been informed by the trainer that the horse returned to the enclosure with its tongue over the bit.

KARTANUP – Began awkwardly.

LESHRAC – Began awkwardly.

COURSESHEWILL – Bumped heavily on jumping and was then tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced greenly in the home straight.

RAINGURL – Began awkwardly. Hung in in the home straight.

Race 7: O’SHEA FAMILY CUP MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when a number of horses were difficult to load.

Stewards permitted BURNING SUCCESS to race without winkers, which were part of the horse’s advertised gear, following an assurance from trainer B. Witt that he had not effected this particular gear change. Stewards will follow up with the Trainers Service Centre in relation to the matter. Stewards further advised Mr Witt that if in fact the gear change had not been effected correctly, a $200 fine would be imposed.

ARMA GRANDAE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

HEAR COMES FURIO – Tightened badly shortly after the start, clipped heels and blundered.

DE LOSKO – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

WICCAN REDE – Laid out under pressure from the 100m.

MILLION – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Bumped on the hind quarters near the 150m and became unbalanced and on returning to scale M. Hellyer reported that from this point the filly did not travel comfortably so he desisted from riding the horse out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had sustained lacerations to both hind legs consistent with being galloped on and was treated accordingly.

HAVEN SUGAR – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

JONDY QUALO – Steadied from heels near the 400m. Hung in in the home straight.

STRYKINGLY SO – Held up for some distance rounding the home turn before being disappointed for a run near the 250m and was then shifted to the inside to secure clear running but was unable to do so until inside the 100m.

Race 8: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1050M

PROOF PERFECT – After being crossed by another runner approaching the 800m, shifted out to a three wide position and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event.

LUCKY CHAMPION – Connections advised that instructions will be to ride the horse back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse settled in a midfield position. Raced four wide without cover throughout.
