GENERAL

The track was downgraded from a Good 4 to a Soft 5 at 3.45pm following a brief storm.

Race 1: HOMESTYLE BAKE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.

MARROCK – Began awkwardly. Jockey Beau Appo reported that his mount overraced significantly in the early stages which placed him at a disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which commenced to weaken from the 400m, revealed no significant  abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken from the gelding. Stable representative M. Currie was advised that the gelding must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next start.

THE DANGER – Trainer T. Gollan was fined $200 for failing to enact a gear change of blinkers off by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly.

SHEEZINAJAM – Trainer M. Nolan was fined $100 for the late declaration of R. Ride as rider. Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden further back today if circumstances permit. The mare was ridden accordingly.

MISHANI SILVA – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer T. Pascoe was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare for its barrier manners. Laid in under pressure in the home straight placing its rider at some disadvantage.

ERROL – Slow to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider.

Following the running of this race the track was further downgraded from a Soft 5 to a Soft 6 retrospective to include Race 1.

Race 2: RICHO’S BOXING GYM BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1300M

IRON GEORGE – As Apprentice C. Frater-Hill was unable to arrive on course to fulfil her engagement, Stewards permitted Apprentice S. Sweeney to be substituted as rider. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill was fined $100. Had to be eased when placed in restricted room to the inside of BURNING MOUNTAIN (R. Goltz) approaching the 900m. Jockey R. Goltz was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

ROSIE POSIE – Held up when disappointed for a run approaching the 300m, and was then obliged to shift out to obtain clear running and, in doing so, made contact with OCCHILUPO.

I AM THE WARRIOR – Had to be eased when inconvenienced near the 100m.

SELFIE – Crowded for room at the start. Shifted wider on the track to improve leaving the 800m.

Race 3: GRANTHAM FUELS BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1000M

NOW YOU SEE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and Apprentice M. Nakao was required to stop and straighten her mount near the 100m.

MAGINOT LINE – Jockey N. Thomas was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the conclusion of the race.

TURBO TEDDY – Blundered at the start.

NOOR DROPPER – Bumped when racing in restricted room shortly after the start. Steadied when tightened for room near the 900m. Raced wide from the 600m.

Race 4: SOUTHERN CROSS BRICKLAYING BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 2030M

After kicking out in the barriers, HARADIFY was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

OAKFIELD MONARCH – Commenced to overrace leaving the 1500m, and threw its head in the air for a short distance.

MR MISUNDERSTOOD – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding improved forward to a position outside the leader near the 1600m.

PANALLEY – Tightened for room at the start.

SHE SALUTES – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, Apprentice B. Nothdurft stated that after having a favourable run throughout his mount was able to follow the eventual winner from the 900m, however when placed under pressure near the 600m the mare failed to respond and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. The stable representative was advised to inform Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the horse’s performance.

CASINO GOLD – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SHE SALUTES.

VON RICHTER – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden with cover today if circumstances permit. Raced keenly in the early stages before obtaining cover behind MR MISUNDERSTOOD near the 1600m.

Race 5: JIMMY’S CHOP SHOP MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

BEDAZZLE ME – Began very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the inside barrier partition and, as a result, lost ground.

MY SWEET LORD – Slow to begin, and then restrained to a position at the rear of the field. Trainer M. Boland was advised that a warning will be placed against the gelding for being uncompetitive.

NULLADANE – Raced wide throughout, and approaching the 300m was forced wider on the track by RUN THE CUTTER which was hanging out.

JACKSON STORM – Forced wider on the track near the 800m, and near the 700m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of RUN THE CUTTER which was hanging out.

HAIKU’S WAY – Began awkwardly and made contact with the outside barrier partition.

CITRINE LOVER – Trainer R. Hilton was advised that a warning will be placed against the mare for being uncompetitive.

RUN THE CUTTER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered JACKSON STORM. Commenced to hang out from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that the filly must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next start.

SMALL TOWN GIRL – Slow to begin.

Race 6: PEAK ROOFS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1640M

The start of this race was delayed when AMTHAAL proved difficult to load.

JACARANDA PRINCE – Laid in throughout. Stewards questioned jockey Rudd regarding his riding in the early and middle stages. Of concern to Stewards was jockey Rudd’s positioning of the gelding from the 1200m to the 800m where he raced extremely wide on the track. Jockey Rudd explained that after travelling a short distance and when racing wide, the gelding was inclined to hang in and for this reason he elected to stay wide on the track and improve forward. He added that when he attempted to position the gelding closer to the remainder of the field, it commenced to lay in and therefore he was reluctant to shift in and remained racing in a wide position. He further added that once entering the home straight the gelding continued to lay in and he was unable to place it under any pressure. Whilst noting the comments, Stewards were of the opinion that jockey Rudd’s ride lacked judgement and advised him that he should have made a greater effort to obtain cover in the early stages, and that whilst racing wide he should have attempted to position his mount closer to the remainder of the field rather than remaining wide as he did, however given the horse’s racing characteristics they did not feel that his riding was culpable under the Rules. Trainer C. Rogers was advised that the horse must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next start.

THERE’S NEMO – Had to be restrained after improving onto heels near the 1200m.

Race 7: KENT WOODFORD – RAY WHITE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1210M

UNCLE JIM – Slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was uncompetitive, revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Hilton was advised that the horse will incur a provincial bar until such time as its form improves at country venues.

CONFESSIONS – Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m.

MIYAKO ODORI – After being crossed by MIDNIGHT MATINEE shortly after the start, the filly shifted out and made contact with TOP SCOTT.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 300m which resulted in VANDALUSCIOUS having to be checked. After taking evidence from the riders involved, it was established that when Beau Appo, the rider of VANDALUSCIOUS, was attempting a narrow run between MIYAKO ODORI (R. Goltz) and TOP SCOTT (G. Geran), MIYAKO ODORI shifted out slightly making contact with VANDALUSCIOUS, which in turn made contact with the hindquarters of TOP SCOTT and, as a result, shifted in placing pressure upon VANDALUSCIOUS causing it to be tightened for room and checked. Jockey Appo was advised to exercise more care when attempting to secure a narrow run.
