Race 1: CHARLTON TYRE SERVICE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when CLASSIC BEAU became fractious in the enclosure and proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Stewards acceded to the request of the trainer to remove the horse’s tongue-tie. The gelding subsequently became fractious behind the barriers and refused to load and, as a result, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 5.13pm. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

0 cents in the dollar for the Win #11
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #11
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #9
1 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

Trainer M. Boland was advised that the gelding would require two further barrier certificates prior to its next start.

TISANI MAGIC – Began awkwardly. Shifted out near the 300m and, as a result, bumped ARCHER’S TREASURE. Shifted in abruptly near the 150m making heavy contact with COLPO DI TAMBURO and, as a result, Beau Appo, the rider of TISANI MAGIC, became unbalanced.

ARDOYNE ROAD – Following the disappointing performance, Trainer T. Sears reported that the horse suffers from a breathing issue, and will now be retired from racing.

ARCHER’S TREASURE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

HAIKU’S WAY – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

BLACKBERRY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

COLPO DI TAMBURO – Began awkwardly, and was then tightened for room and lost ground. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer L. Roche advised that the gelding had only had two starts for his stable, and at its most recent start at Dalby the horse lost approximately three lengths at the start. He added that the gelding had finished off well on that occasion and finished only 5.9 lengths behind the winner. Mr. Roche went on to say that the gelding had worked well since its last start and, for this reason, he had expected the horse to be a place chance tonight. Stewards noted the explanation.

SWIFT RESPONSE – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room near the 200m and had to be steadied.

Race 2: GAINSBOROUGH LODGE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

MISHANI SILVA – Trainer T. Pascoe advised that the mare was served on 25 September 2018 and has been confirmed to be in foal. Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer T. Pascoe was advised that the mare would require two further barriers certificates prior to its next start.

OUR GRACIOUS DANE – Held up rounding the home turn, and upon entering the home straight.

RICH TRADITION – Began awkwardly.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from a Good 4 to a Good 3 retrospective to include Race 2.

Race 3: SUPERSPROUT BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1100M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, Apprentice C. Gallagher, the rider of DREAMSCOPE, placed 5th by the Judge, lodged an objection against APPLAUSE A STAR (N. Nishio) being placed 4th, alleging interference approaching and leaving the 1000m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards established that APPLAUSE A STAR shifted in near the 1000m tightening the running of DREAMSCOPE which then lost its rightful running. Stewards also found that APPLAUSE A STAR continued to shift in at this point and tightened the room of the runners to its inside, which caused DREAM OF ASCOT (L. Tilley) to be forced out slightly, which in turn resulted in DREAMSCOPE blundering and almost dislodging its rider when it clipped the heels of DREAM OF ASCOT. Having regard to the margin of a half neck between the horses at the finish, Stewards were of the opinion that had DREAMSCOPE not lost ground and settled further back in the field than its usual racing pattern, it would have placed fourth, and Stewards therefore upheld the protest. Correct weight was declared on the amended numbers.

At a subsequent inquiry, jockey N. Nishio pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching and leaving the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DREAMSCOPE (App. C. Gallagher) taking that horse in to the outside of the heels of DREAM OF ASCOT (L. Tilley) at which time App. C. Gallagher was obliged to take hold of DREAMSCOPE. Jockey Nishio then continued to permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DREAM OF ASCOT, which was taken in tightening TIN’S POCKET (R. Williams) onto the hindquarters of MISHANI RAINMAN (N. Tomizawa) which became unbalanced and was turned out. In this incident, App. C. Gallagher, L. Tilley, R. Williams and N. Tomizawa all had to take hold of their mounts and DREAMSCOPE blundered almost dislodging its rider when it clipped the heels of DREAM OF ASCOT which was forced out slightly. Jockey Nishio’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 16 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 1 December 2018 and expire at midnight on Monday 17 December 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was in the high range.

DREAMSCOPE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

TIMETUS – Bumped by another running leaving the 1000m and became unbalanced. Held up from rounding the home turn until the 200m.

DREAM OF ASCOT – Tightened for room at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

OKANAGAN MISS – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn and upon entering the home straight.

Race 4: FALKEN TYRES QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M

MISHANI RULER – Raced 3 wide without cover from the 800m.

SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in in the home straight.

SUPERSONIC BOOM – Began awkwardly. Laid in in the home straight.

FISH BURGER – Laid out rounding the home turn.

Race 5: GAINSBOROUGH LIFESTYLE VILLAGE BRASSALL BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1625M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable App. C. Gallagher, the rider of the second placegetter RED PRINCE, to view the photo finish print. After viewing the print, App. C. Gallagher was satisfied and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

RED PRINCE – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

OCCHILUPO – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

BOCHY – Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and shifted out and, as a result, shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

VON RICHTER – Began awkwardly.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced very wide rounding the home turn. Jockey N. Nishio was fined $200 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions and in some consecutive strides prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Nishio’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

SELFIE – Began awkwardly.

HENRY’S ON COURSE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.

Race 6: RICHARDS GROUP CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M

WINTER SONATA – Held up rounding the home turn.

KOPELLA – After being caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages, jockey N. Tomizawa permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader leaving the 1200m.

D’LEEAJET – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

MORE OF MARY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

Race 7: FURNEYS MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

JACKSON STORM – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start making heavy contact with AVENERO. Tightened for room near the 800m between RUBY RUSH (App. C. Gallagher) which shifted out when being eased, and NULLADANE (App. T. Williams) which shifted in. Apprentice T. Williams was advised to exercise more care. As a result of this incident, JACKSON STORM raced 3 wide from this point. Hung out rounding the home turn and then commenced to hang in in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer B. Currie was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

NULLADANE – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start and bumped LOUIE LA’JOY. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

LOUIE LA’JOY – Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn. Shifted in abruptly leaving the 100m, and had to be steadied when CAMBOOMYA (R. Goldsbury) shifted out under pressure. Jockey R. Goldsbury was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

AVENERO – Raced 3 wide throughout.

DABKE – Bumped heavily at the start.

RUBY RUSH – Got its head in the air whilst being eased near the 800m, and shifted out abruptly.

SMALL TOWN GIRL – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Had to be steadied from heels shortly after the start.
