INSTANTANEOUS – Hampered on jumping away, and lost ground.

RAIN ON ME – Bumped heavily by another runner near the 150m.

AVASA – Whilst racing in restricted room to the inside of RED DEVIL near the 350m, the mare had to be checked and became unbalanced when RED DEVIL shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 2: TAYLOR BUILDING GROUP CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

MISHANI VALENTINO – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for the late scratching of the gelding at 7.34am.

WESTBROOK WARRIOR – After beginning only fairly, the gelding was steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start.

WANT TO BOLT – Jockey Beau Appo was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

SWIFT RESPONSE – Stewards questioned jockey C. Eaton in relation to the tactics adopted following concerns raised by Trainer B. Hudson regarding the manner in which the mare was ridden, given that the instructions issued prior to the race were to have the mare racing in a midfield position. Jockey Eaton confirmed the instructions issued, and advised that after her mount began quite well, she looked to her inside on a number of occasions with the intention to find a midfield trailing position behind SPLASH OF CRISTAL. Jockey Eaton added that when SPLASH OF CRISTAL continued to be ridden aggressively to her inside, she felt that she was unable to obtain a position behind that horse, and elected to ride her mount along in an endeavour to cross that runner to obtain a position one off the fence, rather than remain in a 3 wide position. Jockey Eaton went on to say that after crossing SPLASH OF CRISTAL near the 1000m, it was her intention to remain in a position outside WANT TO BOLT, however her mount commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain, and she continued to ride forward to cross WANT TO BOLT to a leading position, however when that runner was ridden along by its rider near the 900m she was unable to cross. Whilst noting the concerns of Mr. Hudson regarding the failure to comply with the instructions issued, Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by jockey Eaton in relation to the racing circumstances.

Race 3: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1100M

ROUGH EDDIE – Laid out rounding the home turn.

GREY STEYNE – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels near the 900m.

RED PRINCE – Knuckled on jumping away.

GENERAL COS – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CAMBOOYA ROCK – Laid out rounding the home turn. Apprentice S. Sweeney accidentally dropped her whip near the 100m.

COOL DRAFTS – Became fractious in the barriers.

Race 4: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

FAKE NEWS – Jockey J. Oliver reported that his mount was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages, and therefore settled further back in the field than anticipated. He added that the mare felt short in its action on returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer B. Currie advised that in light of the performance, it is now his intention for the horse to leave his stable. Nevertheless, Mr. Currie was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to its next start.

MONA’S PRIDE – Hampered shortly after the start.

A SONG FOR GRACE – Raced 4 wide for the majority.

CROOKED ARROW – After being crossed approaching the 800m, the filly was steadied from heels and shifted wider on the track and, as a result, raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder. Laid in in the home straight.

ZODIAC STAR – Slow to muster early speed and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Disappointed for a run near the 500m when attempting to shift out to improve and, as a result, was forced to shift to the inside in an attempt to secure clear running. Laid in for some distance approaching and passing the 100m.

Race 5: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BENZ EXPRESS – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.

BUDMEISTER – Slow to begin.

EXCEEDINGLY BRAVE – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 900m. Raced greenly in the home straight.

SPARMAN – Momentarily steadied when racing in restricted room near the 400m.

SWAN CITY – Clipped heels and blundered shortly after the start. Jockey J. Oliver, the rider of ALL UP TEE KAY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SWAN CITY (Beau Appo) resulting in that runner clipping heels and blundering. Jockey Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 February 2019 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 20 February 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Oliver’s guilty plea and his previous good record in relation to this rule.
