GENERAL:
 
Apprentice J. Morrow was reprimanded under AR.175(p) for failing to comply with requirement of Racing Queensland training department  to attend apprentice school on Monday 18 February 2019.
 
Race 1: SAMIOS PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1300M
 
PROUD’S SEQUEL slow to begin, raced wide from the 700m. Rider J. Oliver reported that the mare failed to travel throughout and was disappointing. Trainer M. Frappell advised that he would now consider spelling the mare and if anything came to light in coming days would report to stewards. Post-race veterinary examination failed to  reveal any abnormalities.
 
BABY MERLIN raced keen in the early stages, improved onto heels and had to be eased leaving the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
BY THE LAW raced three wide without cover throughout. Rider S. Bogenhuber reported that in her opinion the gelding raced flat. Trainer J. Hanna advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell. Post- race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SPLASH OF CRISTAL passing the 800m got its head up when being restrained.
 
HUTCHO approaching the 200m had difficulties obtaining clear running shifted out making minor contact with PIGINARKI. Approaching the 50m HUTCHO shifted out and bumped PIGINARKI.

PIGINARKI  approaching the 50m was bumped on the hindquarters by anther runner and became unbalanced. Post- race veterinary examination revealed speedy-cut to the off-hind leg.
 
 
Race 2: TUFF BULLBARS CLASS 1 HANDICAP– 1050M
 
At the request of the starter JACK OF SPADES underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared to race.
 
Start was delayed when JACK OF SPADES and SOMETHING UNKNOWN were both fractious in the gates.
 
DABKE turned its head as the gates opened and lost ground.
 
SOMETHING UNKNOWN began awkwardly and made contact with the starting gate. A post-race veterinary  examination revealed the gelding to be suffering poor post-race recovery and lame in the near-hind leg. Trainer B. Loakes advised a Veterinary Certificate is required for the gelding prior to next racing.
 
 
JACK OF SPADES approaching the 200m brushed the running rail. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
AVASA inclined to lay in in the home straight.
 
GOSSIAUX raced wide throughout.  Jockey Bogenhuber reported that her instructions were to settle in a forward position however was unable to do so. She explained that she was pleased with how the gelding ran on and advised connections that it would be more suited over 1200m.
 
Race 3: WIPPELLS SUBARU RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP– 1640M
 
TALAPUS raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 800m was restrained from heels.
 
DAZZLE EM raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
UNIQUE MISTIQUE leaving the 500m had difficulty obtaining clear running and a short distance later raced in restricted room making contact with TALAPUS.
 
RAYMAX near the 1500m when racing keen was steadied by its rider. Trainer B. Hudson advised Stewards that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.
 
 
Race 4: BLACK ISUZU UTE QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE– 1050M
 
Trainer L. Hatch was fined $100 for late declaration of rider for MAIDENOVER.
 
The start of the race was delayed to enable the removal of a wallaby from the track. Due to the delay, the starting time of race 4, was rescheduled to 7:16pm.
 
CHEVY began awkwardly. Raced three wide throughout without cover.
 
JACKO’S A NATURAL was slow to begin.
 
AMERICAN CROWN jumped inwards making contact with HEART VANDELAY.                         
 
Shortly after the start AMERICAN CROWN and MOUNT DUMARESQ were tightened for room between  MAIDENOVER which laid in and HEART VANDELAY which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters which resulted in MOUNT DUMARESQ losing ground when it clipped heels and blundered and AMERICAN CROWN losing ground.
 
 
AMERICAN CROWN passing the 400m had to be steadied from heels and shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
 
Race 5: AVIS TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP- 1210M
 
The start time of race 5, was rescheduled to 7:46 due to the delay in race 4.
 
GENERAL COS Rider M. Schrapel was questioned in relation to the geldings improved performance.  He explained the gelding was better suited to the pace of today’s event and added that the gelding races best when able to settle in a rearward position.
 
Race 6: AUTOBARN TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN HANDICAP- 1210M
 
BENVENUTI slow to begin.
 
BUCK STOPS HERE over raced in the early stages.
 
GETS SMOKIN’ approaching and leaving the 1000m got its head up when being restrained and raced ungenerously. When questioned in relation to the improved performance Trainer M. Boland stated that the gelding has a history of being slow to begin, whereas today it began well and therefore was enabled to race in a forward position.
 
JONDY JOY was held up entering the home straight until shifting in to obtain clear running approaching the 200m. 
 
CLEAR SAILING Slow to begin. Near the 200m, was obliged to ease and shift out across the heels of JONDY JOY when it shifted in.  Jockey Apthorpe was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.
 
CANFORD TREE laid in in the home straight.
 
Race 7: R&D ACCOUNTING CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1640M
 
 
HANOVER SQUARE was forced wider by another runner passing the 1000m, raced wide for the remainder of the race.
