Race 1: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
 
The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners proved difficult to load.
 
DASHING OCEAN – Raced in restricted room near the 400m.
 
TEKKEN WARRIOR – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
SNAP ON – Improved into restricted room near the 400m and, as a result, was buffeted between runners, became unbalanced and lost some ground.
 
SOXAGON – Bumped heavily at the start by TURBO MAGIC. Raced keenly and improved onto heels leaving the 600m and, as a result, shifted out abruptly and raced wide from that point. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer B. Currie advised that the colt has returned from a recent spell and has had multiple jumpouts leading up to tonight’s race. He added that the colt was well supported today, and he had expected a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
TURBO MAGIC – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Held up entering the home straight and shifted wider to secure clear running, and then raced greenly for the remainder.
 
DAM LOVABLE – Raced wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track by another runner passing the 600m. Shifted in abruptly leaving the 200m.
 
FLYASH – Slow to begin. Shifted out abruptly leaving the 100m.
 
FLYING DEE JAY – Slow to begin, and then steadied from heels shortly after the start.
 
STRONG DESIRE – Steadied from heels near the 600m. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
ANDIAMO MISS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, and raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
BUCK STOPS HERE – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 2: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1300M
 
CONGELATOR – Raced keenly in the early stages. Restrained from heels leaving the 1000m.
 
LITTLE JOHN – Shifted wider on the track to improve near the 700m and, as a result, forced OSMOSIS wider on the track.
 
OSMOSIS – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Trainer C. White advised that the horse will now be retired. Nevertheless, Ms. White was advised that the mare will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
 
RULER’S PRIDE – As J. Woodhouse was to be overweight, Stewards permitted Beau Appo to be substituted as rider. Jockey Woodhouse was fined $100. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Woodhouse’s recent good record in relation to this rule. Threw its head in the air on jumping away, and lost some ground. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Frappell could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance, however he advised that he may consider adding a tongue-tie to the horse for its future race starts.
 
SELFIE – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: THE BAVARIAN MAIDEN H’CAP – 1625M
 
HIT THE GENERAL – Apprentice H. Phillips had to take hold of her mount near the 900m and lost ground when HOCKED (J. Woodhouse) shifted in. J. Woodhouse, the rider of HOCKED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HIT THE GENERAL resulting in Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of HIT THE GENERAL, having to take hold of her mount and losing ground. Jockey Woodhouse’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 March 2019 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 20 March 2019. Trainer M. Boland advised that in light of the performance he will now give consideration to the horse’s racing future in his stable.
 
C’MOME PADDYREILLY – Shifted wider on the track near the 1300m. Bumped another runner on a few occasions near the 1000m. When questioned by Stewards as to the reason she permitted her mount to shift to a 3 wide position leaving the 1300m, jockey E. Ljung advised that when following BRAZEN CHOICE approaching the 1300m she was of the opinion that that runner would shift in onto the fence. She added that when she improved to its outside, BRAZEN CHOICE commenced to race keenly and from that point she was obliged to race 3 wide until passing the 800m. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
BRAZEN CHOICE – Bumped by another runner on a few occasions near the 1000m.
 
IF THE SHOE FITS – Made the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly.
 
DYDEE’S GIRL – Refused to jump and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer V. Heading was advised that the horse will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.
 
Race 4: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1050M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an application by jockey L. Tilley to have MAGIC INK declared a non-runner on the basis that the horse was denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from all parties, Stewards established that MAGIC INK got its head down shortly prior to the barriers opening and, as a result, refused to jump and took no competitive part in the race. As Stewards were of the view that other than for its own actions the horse was afforded a fair start, and was not impeded by any other outside influence, MAGIC INK was declared a starter. The trainer’s representative was advised that the horse will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.
 
TISANI MAGIC – Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Improved onto heels leaving the 900m and, as a result, forced SOLTINHO LAD and BLACK CRUSADE wider on the track.
 
EIGHT OVER – Began awkwardly.
 
SOLTINHO LAD – Bumped at the start. Forced wider on the track by another runner leaving the 900m and, as a result, raced keenly for a short distance and had to be restrained to a position with cover approaching the 700m.
 
LOVESON – Became fractious in the enclosure resulting in jockey S. Bogenhuber being dislodged. S. Bogenhuber indicated that she had some soreness to her left thigh as a result of this incident, however she indicated that she would be able to fulfil her remaining engagements. Jockey S. Bogenhuber was required to take hold of her mount to avoid heels near the 800m when EIGHT OVER (App. N. Keal) shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice Keal was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
BLACK CRUSADE – Tightened from room shortly after the start and lost ground. Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Forced wider on the track by another runner leaving the 900m. After being caught wide, jockey Beau Appo permitted his mount to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 500m.
 
PURE WHISPER – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 5: HAPPY 65TH BIRTHDAY SUTTO CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when SATYRICON reared and lunged forward in the barriers.  The mare was subsequently removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
 
EXCELEBRAZIONE – Apprentice A. Thompson was fined $100 for using a whip action in that he raised his arm above shoulder height.
 
MISTER WARD – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
LOUIE LA’JOY – Shifted wider on the track when being ridden under pressure in the home straight.
 
SATYRICON – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting post-race distress, and the presence of mucus in its airway. Trainer C. Munce will be advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to its next start.
 
Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1300M
 
ROSENDAHL RED – When questioned by Stewards regarding her riding in the home straight, Apprentice H. Phillips advised that approaching the home turn she was of the opinion that ENTERPRISE GRAND was hanging off the track, and she therefore elected to take a run to the inside of that runner. Apprentice Phillips added that approaching the 200m ENTERPRISE GRAND commenced to shift in resulting in her mount being dictated in behind PERFECT AIM which resulted in her being unable to fully test the filly until the last 50m when ENTERPRISE GRAND shifted back out. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
ENTERPRISE GRAND – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung out from passing the 800m.
 
VANZANT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey J. Oliver reported that his instructions were to obtain cover, however in the early stages the filly was reluctant to be restrained to obtain cover, and therefore settled in a 3 wide position. Jockey Oliver could offer no other explanation for the disappointing performance.
 
Race 7: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1850M
 
LITTLE RED DEVIL – Apprentice S. Vella reported that the gelding pulled hard in the early and middle stages, and added that the step up in distance from 1210m to 1850m may have been a contributing factor to the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.
 
DAZZLE EM SID – When racing keenly near the 1500m, jockey S. Apthorpe permitted his mount to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1300m.
