QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 16 MARCH 2019 WEATHER – FINE RAIL – 2MPENETROMETER – 5.54TRACK RATING – SOFT 7SOFT 6 @ 3.30pmOFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. TouStewards Secretary – M. Weir GENERAL The track rating was initially advertised as a Soft 5 in error, and was corrected to a Soft 7 at approximately 8.30am. Following a request from Trainer J. Amory, Stewards permitted the late scratching of AENGUS in Race 3 at 9.50am due to the track rating correction. The track was further upgraded from a Soft 7 to a Soft 6 at 3.30pm. Race 1: OAKLEIGH EARTHMOVING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M The start of this race was delayed to enable a tongue-tie to be fitted to CHAMBERLAIN after it was presented to race without that gear. The start of this race was further delayed to enable the tongue-tie on CHAMBERLAIN to be refitted upon arriving at the barriers. Trainer R. Connolly was subsequently fined $100. CLOCKWISE – Hampered at the start. Inconvenienced after improving onto heels approaching the 300m. BRUTUS – Slow to begin. MCKINLAY MISS – Began awkwardly and then shifted in abruptly. GYPSY TAP – Raced wide rounding the home turn. CHAMBERLAIN – Began awkwardly and trailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Connolly was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding. Apprentice M. Wishart was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over the horse’s allotted weight. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Apprentice Wishart’s prior good record in relation to this rule. Race 2: QUEENSLAND WATER SERVICES BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1200M BLACK CRUSADE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. STORMY GREY – Began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with MAN OVERBOARD. STAR ADELE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto the heels of ANOTHER SLIPPER approaching the 300m and had to be steadied, and was then held up and unable to improve for the majority of the home straight. BLACK CRUSADE – Slow to begin. OVERGROWN – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, Apprentice M. Wishart stated that after travelling well in a prominent position she was confident that the mare was travelling strongly, however when placed under pressure it failed to respond as anticipated and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Stable representative Mr. Mr. Currie could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, however he undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery. MAN OVERBOARD – Tightened for room at the start. Race 3: RUBEN TAYLOR PLUMBING & GAS MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event. HEY DOLL – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Following the race, Jockey R. Goltz reported that the mare had become fractious in the barriers and, as a result, he had sustained some bruising to his right foot which placed him in some discomfort. AMERICAN CROWN – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PUMP ACTION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and near the 100m jockey M. Shimodaira had to stop and straighten his mount. Race 4: WONDERLEY & HALL CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1300M ELRAAZY – Apprentice N. Keal was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. WANT TO BOLT – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. DAZET – Slow into stride. Race 5: EXCEL ELECTRICAL/SOLAR /AC BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1050M GENERAL COS – Slow to begin. CAMBOOYA ROCK – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. MAGIC INK – Raced wide without cover from the 600m. Race 6: GAINSBOROUGH LODGE BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1625M Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards reviewed the patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of MENDELSSOHN which was placed 5th by the Judge. After viewing the patrol footage, Stewards did not proceed and declared correct weight. MENDELSSOHN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1400m. When attempting a narrow run to the inside of SKYLIGHT (K. Yoshida) near the 200m, the gelding initially rolled out and had to be eased before shifting back to the rail as SKYLIGHT continued to shift in slightly. MENDELSSOHN was then disappointed for a run and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running. Jockey Yoshida was reprimanded as a result of this incident. BRUMBY JACK – Began awkwardly. Eased from heels approaching the 1400m. WESTBROOK WARRIOR – Jockey J. Oliver pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Jockey Oliver was fined $200. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Oliver’s poor prior record in relation to this rule. Race 7: A&R REFRIGERATION QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M DUBAI ME A SAGA – Slow to begin. KENDO FIGHTER – Slow to begin. When racing at the rear of the field with cover in the early stages, the gelding commenced to overrace and improved onto heels and, as a result, shifted out and raced wide until a point near the 800m.
