SaundersStewards Secretary – M. Weir Race 1: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1210M RED DEVIL – Bumped on jumping away. Apprentice M. Wishart could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding, which she advised was under pressure from the 600m and did not respond to her riding in the home straight. Trainer B. Currie could also offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, however he advised that the gelding had trained on well following its previous victory and, in his opinion, it should have been suited by the step up in distance. He added that in light of the performance, he will now monitor the gelding’s preparation moving forward. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities other than that the gelding was suffering from the thumps. A post-race swab sample was taken from the gelding. DREAMTIMER – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer K. Kemp regarding the late declaration of E. Ljung as rider. Raced in restricted room in the early stages and lost ground. After being ridden aggressively in the early stages to maintain a position behind RED DEVIL, the gelding commenced to race keenly and had to be steadied from that runner’s heels. Raced in restricted room near the 800m. Laid in in the home straight. SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Began awkwardly, and shifted in bumping another runner. GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey P. Romeo reported that his mount was inclined to hang in throughout, and proved somewhat difficult to ride out in the home straight. Race 2: TAB CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1875M FILLE GRIS – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. ROCKING OSSIE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost valuable ground. STORMY LEO – Hung out rounding the home turn. ONE MAN GRAND – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed that it had bled both nostrils. Trainer M. Boland was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. Following the running of Race 2 the meeting was abandoned due to a continuing electrical storm in the area and significant rainfall.
