Race 1: BRETT HEFFERNAN DIRTY30 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M
 
The start of this race was delayed several minutes to enable technical difficulties with the photo finish equipment to be rectified.
 
LE BEAU RENARD – Jumped with its head in the air, and was then further hampered when tightened for room. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey B. Pengelly advised that after meeting with some interference at the start the gelding settled in a rearward position, however he had not been overly concerned by this bearing in mind the horse’s established racing pattern. He added however that the gelding was off the bit for the majority and struggled with the tempo of the race, and ran on only fairly in the home straight. Jockey Pengelly went on to say that he had advised connections that, in his opinion, the manner in which the horse raced today indicated to him that it would be better suited in races over further distances. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
BINDABOOBERRI – Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority.
 
HEART OF KINGS – Bumped on jumping away.
 
GLITTER TOP – When attempting to shift to the outside to secure clear running, the mare was disappointed for a run approaching the 100m, before shifting wider again to secure clear running.
 
EVAMAC – Steadied to avoid heels near the 750m. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
VANZANT – Raced 4 wide with cover for the majority.
 
DANCING ANGEL – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
 
TEMERITY – Jockey L. McCoy could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding, however she advised that it had travelled well in the early and middle stages but had failed to run on when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: ENTERPRISE LEGAL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed when LADRETTO, which made heavy contact with the front of the barriers after being loaded, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 6.11pm on veterinary advice. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
 
1 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10
1 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5
 
I AM THE GENERAL – Raced 3 wide throughout. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 350m.
 
EIGHT OVER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BEAU TIRAGE – Raced with its head in the air in the early stages.
 
GENERAL COS – Held up for clear running and unable to improve for the majority of the home straight, and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
SHOW ‘EM – Began awkwardly.
 
SNIPETRON – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the leading position near the 600m.
 
LWAZI – Held up for clear running and unable to improve for some distance rounding the home turn before shifting wider near the 200m at which point it was able to secure clear running.
 
Race 3: COCA COLA AMATIL BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1625M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted jockey R. Goltz to view the photo finish print for 1st. After viewing the print he was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
ADDICTED – Slow to begin.
 
POLE VOLTER – Laid in for a short distance rounding the home turn.
 
TISANI GREY – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
ALFIE JUNIOR – Slow to begin.
 
HAMMERACK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
 
LOTZA – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 700m.
 
NORMANTON – Buffeted between runners leaving the 200m when LADY ELLEY (R. Goltz) shifted out after being forced wider on the track by BEANS ‘N’ RICE (App. C. Gallagher) which shifted out abruptly to secure clear running. Apprentice Gallagher was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
 
ASKARI – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner near the 400m and, as a result, had to shift out.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Slow to muster early speed. Shifted out to avoid the heels of another runner near the 400m.
 
FLIRTY MCCOY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 5: FURNEYS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M
 
The start of this race was delayed when a gear adjustment was required on SOARING HEART after it was loaded into the barriers.
 
SIMPLY SPLASHING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SIR BAM – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 550m and became unbalanced.
 
TISANI MAGIC – Raced very ungenerously in the early and middle stages despite the efforts its rider, and was therefore allowed to stride forward to obtain a leading position leaving the 800m.
 
KING DINISTY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, and proved difficult to restrain despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey N. Tomizawa could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
 
SONADOR FIRE – Dwelt as the start was effected and lost valuable ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 6: THE BAVARIAN MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M
 
 
MT PILATUS – Slow to begin.
 
HARRYANDTHETIGER – Slow to begin, and then further hampered to avoid the heels of another runner. Held up for some distance rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
ROYAL WARFARE – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider causing tightening to a number of runners. Trainer M. Boland was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding. Raced wide without cover throughout.  
 
SHY BOY – Checked to avoid the heels of another runner shortly after the start. Steadied and forced wider on the track to avoid the heels of another runner leaving the 800m. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
COSTA BLANCA – Bumped heavily shortly after the start.
 
MASK STEPENNY – Raced in restricted room and was eased to the inside of HARRYANDTHETIGER approaching the 100m when that runner laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
Immediately following thisrace, and prior to the declaration of correct weight, the Chief Steward raised a concern with the numbers, which had been semaphored on Sky Channel and then subsequently on the semaphore board. In particular, the Chief Steward was of the view that ROYAL WARFARE was the winner of the event, and not UNIMAGINEABLE as semaphored. Upon return to the enclosure, the Chief Steward directed that the first horse past the post be kept under Stewards’ supervision to be re-identified. Upon reinspection it was confirmed that ROYAL WARFARE was the winner of the race. During this process UNIMAGINEABLE was also re-identified.
 
Upon investigation it was established that ROYAL WARFARE and UNIMAGINEABLE were presented and subsequently raced in the incorrect saddlecloths. Whenweighing in, both App. M. Savva (ROYAL WARFARE) and M. Palmer (UNIMAGINEABLE) were correctly weighed in at their allotted weights. An examination of the Stewards patrol footage also confirmed that both horses started from their correct barriers. Subsequently, as Stewards were satisfied that ROYAL WARFARE was the winner of the race despite carrying the incorrect saddlecloth, correct weight was declared as follows: 1st ROYAL WARFARE (No. 4), 2nd GREY SKIES (No. 2), 3rd MT PILATUS (No. 1) and SEVENTY BELOW (No. 9). 
 
An inquiry into this matter was adjourned to allow Stewards to give consideration to the totality of the evidence provided by App. M. Savva and Trainer M. Boland (the connections of ROYAL WARFARE) and jockey M. Palmer and Trainer B. Robinson (the connections of UNIMAGINEABLE) in addition to Steward, Mr. L. Carvosso
 
Race 7: CREATE WITH COTTEE MAIDEN PLATE – 1850M
 
C’MOME PADDYREILLY – Began awkwardly. Apprentice H. Phillips reported that her saddle shifted back in the middle stages which placed her at some disadvantage for the remainder. Overraced in middle stages. Raced wide from the 800m.
 
COMPLETE TRUST – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and proved difficult to restrain. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
TICKETOME – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain. Jockey R. Goltz could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance other than that the gelding overraced badly during the race.
 
STRATEGIC BEAUTY – A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which was pulled up quickly after the race, revealed it to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr. S. Pedron advised that the mare would now be retired from racing. Nevertheless, Mr. Pedron was advised that should the mare remain in work, it will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
SHE LIKES A DRINK – Slow to muster early speed. When passing the winning post on the first occasion, the filly was steadied to avoid the heels of TICKETOME (R. Goltz) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Goltz was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn, and then held up for a short distance before securing clear running to the inside in the home straight.
