GENERAL
 
As Apprentice C. Gallagher was not attending the meeting today due to a suspension, riding replacements were made in Races 1 and 8 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Due to rainfall after the scratching deadline, the track was downgraded from a Good 4 to a Soft 5 at 11.45am.
 
Race 1: A&R REFRIGERATION MAIDEN PLATE – 2150M
 
COMPLETE TRUST – Whilst being restrained near the 1900m, the gelding was momentarily placed in restricted room to the inside of YANKEE SANG which was taken in by QUOTANT. Overraced for some distance approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
MISSY MUSKETEER – Disappointed for a run approaching the 400m and, as a result, improved onto the heels of a tiring runner and was checked and lost ground. Steadied when attempting a narrow run near the 400m.
 
POWER FROM WITHIN – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Shifted to a 3 wide position near the 1000m, and raced wide for the remainder.
 
QUOTANT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Trainer K. Schweida advised that in light of today’s performance he will now consult with the owners in relation to the horse’s racing future.
 
YANKEE SANG – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which weakened noticeably in the home straight, revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was downgraded from a Soft 5 to a Soft 6 retrospective.
 
Race 2: PRO-CLEAR CLASS 5 PLATE – 1625M
 
MAGSTOCK – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward today if circumstances permit. Slow to begin, and then after being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a one out one back position near the 1000m.
 
Race 3: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards permitted Beau Appo, the rider of the 2nd placegetter GOLDEN SYMPHONY, to view the photo finish print for 1st. After viewing the print, he was satisfied with the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
OUR TOP LADY – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer M. Boland regarding the late declaration of Apprentice S. Tomlinson as rider. Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
DOCKLANDS – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
TSANI TOPAZ – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ARZU – Began awkwardly and shifted wider on the track. After being caught wide in the early stages, the filly was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 700m. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
GOLDEN SYMPHONY – Momentarily steadied to avoid heels at the 800m.
 
BRIDGET’S DIARY – Trainer G. Schwenke could offer no tangible explanation for the seemingly improved performance of the mare other than that, in his opinion, the field today was inferior to that of the horse’s most recent races.
 
ENCHANTED REIGN – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of tiring runners passing the 400m and was steadied.
 
RETURN TO ROYALTY – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 4: ENTERPRISE LEGAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
 
UNO TOPS – Slow to begin.
 
WAIT A MINUTE – Bumped on jumping away. Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority.
 
LOVE YERS ALL – Jockey L. Tilley reported that his mount, which raced wide throughout, also hung out throughout.
 
SPIRITOSA – Bumped on jumping away.
 
TATACHILLA – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
VINASTA – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey A. Fancourt could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance other than that, in her opinion, the filly was not suited by being unable to obtain a forward position today. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Due to further rainfall, the track was downgraded from a Soft 6 to a Soft 7 following the running of this race.
 
Race 5: MICK SUTTON CONCRETING CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M
 
RAMTASTIC – Raced wide without cover throughout. Momentarily steadied to avoid heels approaching the 200m.
 
ARCHER’S TREASURE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
GODFATHER’S GIRL – Steadied to avoid the heels of TEMERITY (App. M. Wishart) which shifted in when not completely clear passing the 800m. Apprentice Wishart was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
LOVESON – When questioned by Stewards regarding the gelding’s seemingly improved performance, Trainer T. Lunney advised that, in his opinion, the horse is better suited when its races are spaced apart which was the case leading in to today’s race. He added that the gelding also performs best when it races at Toowoomba and, for that reason, he had expected an improved performance today.
 
COLPO DI TAMBURO – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 6: HYGAIN CLASS 4 PLATE – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when the bridle on TE RANGI had to be replaced behind the barriers.
 
PRECIPITATE – After beginning well, the mare obtained a trailing position behind the leaders and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.
 
HOWICK – Slow to begin.
 
UNCONDITIONAL – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Jockey J. Oliver could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding which he advised had failed to quicken as expected when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Following the running of this race, jockey M. Du Plessis became ill and was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements. Riding replacements were made in Races 7 and 8 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Du Plessis was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
Race 7: KENNARDS HIRE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M
 
CASINO BEACH – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1200m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.
 
ELMO’S FIRE – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer M. Lakey regarding the late declaration of J. Orman as rider.
 
FORZA – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained for a short distance near the 1200m.
 
VELITES – Apprentice B. Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding which he advised had failed to run on as he had expected in the home straight.
 
ROCK DANCER – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
BLACKMAILER – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRODUCE ME LATE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 8: VANDERFIELD JOHN DEERE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M
 
DELFUEGO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Whilst being restrained to avoid heels near the 700m, the gelding commenced to lay in for a number of strides despite the efforts of its rider resulting in DOMINANT WITNESS, which was racing to its inside, being forced to race in restricted room. Apprentice B. Nothdurft advised that the gelding improved into the race from a rearward position from the 500m, however in the home straight it failed to run on as he had expected and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GETS SMOKIN’ – After beginning well, the gelding obtained a forward position without being overly pressured and then commenced to race keenly and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer M. Boland advised that, in his opinion, the gelding was suited to the step up in distance from 1000m to 1300m today.  He added that the gelding has been a slow maturing horse and, as a result, derived significant benefit from its recent racing experience.
 
SMOKIN’ HUSSAY – As M. Du Plessis was unable to fulfil his engagement, Stewards permitted Apprentice A. Thompson to be substituted as rider when no other senior rider was available. Stewards also permitted Apprentice Thompson to claim only 1.5kg of his 2kg allowance. Raced wide with cover for the majority.
 
BENNELONG – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
BONSEA – Shifted out abruptly in the home straight to secure clear running. Apprentice M. Wishart was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
