Race 1: KENNARDS HIRE BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1300M

LITTLE JOHN – Jockey J. Oliver could offer no tangible explanation for the gelding’s poor performance today. Trainer L. Hatch expressed disappointment in the performance, however he advised that, in his opinion, the horse’s first up run was also only fair.  Mr. Hatch added that prior to committing to where he will place the horse next, he will arrange for it to undergo an endoscopic examination and will report to Stewards should any abnormality become apparent. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse revealed no apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the gelding.

THE IRONS – Raced keenly whilst being restrained for some distance when the pace of the race steadied near the 900m.

SIR BAM – Raced keenly whilst being restrained for some distance when the pace of the race steadied near the 900m. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice N. Masuda advised that after obtaining a good position in the early stages, the gelding commenced to overrace when racing at the heels of EAST ESPLANADE. He added that in the middle stages he was satisfied to trail EAST ESPLANADE, however when that runner failed to take him into the race his mount lost some ground.  He went on to say that at this point the gelding failed to run on when placed under pressure and proved disappointing.

EAST ESPLANADE – Jockey J. Grob reported that the gelding travelled comfortably in a good position in the early stages, however from near the 800m his mount came off the bit and proved disappointing.

Race 2: HELLO HARRY CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1875M

NEWSTEAD – Tightened for room at the start.

LOTZA – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner.

CAPRICE – Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that the mare travelled comfortably throughout, and  from the 600m he felt that his mount was going to improve into the race. He added however that, in his opinion, the horse had peaked in its run from the 400m and ran on only fairly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise consistent with the onset of a possible virus. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip.

CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages and, after being caught wide, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position one out one back near the 1400m.

CHICAGO NIGHTS – Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels whilst racing keenly near the 1500m.

IN YOUR ELEMENT – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters on jumping away and became unbalanced. Steadied from heels whilst racing keenly near the 1500m.

Race 3: COCA COLA AMATIL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1050M

SWITCH AT MIDNIGHT – Checked to avoid the heels of PIERIDAE which shifted in approaching the 800m. Jockey J. Oliver, the rider of PIERIDAE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SWITCH AT MIDNIGHT resulting in that runner being checked to avoid heels. Jockey Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 28 September 2019 and conclude at midnight on Thursday 10 October 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Oliver’s guilty plea. Whilst Stewards determined that this incident was in the low range, they were mindful of jockey Oliver’s poor recent record in relation to this rule.

PIERIDAE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

MISS BENETEAU – Began awkwardly. Laid in from the 600m.

BELLE XAAR – Trainer B. Robinson was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice N. Masuda as rider.

MIRACLE STAR – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost some ground.

Race 4: CREATE WITH COTTEE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when MY BOY MISCHKE proved difficult to load.

MYKISS FROMA ROSE – Commenced to buck approximately 100m after the start resulting in Apprentice M. Savva being dislodged from the mare in a seemingly harmless fall. Trainer M. Boland was advised that the horse will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

WEALTH’N’POWER – Bumped on jumping away. Checked to avoid heels shortly after the start.

KNUCKLEBOX – Tightened for room on jumping away.

MY BOY MISCHKE – Tightened for room on jumping away.

MCKEEGAN – Trainer B. Robinson was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice N. Fazackerley as rider.  As Apprentice N. Fazackerley was to be overweight, Stewards permitted Apprentice M. Wishart to be substituted as rider.  Stewards also permitted Apprentice Wishart to ride the gelding without claiming any of her allowance. Apprentice Fazackerley was fined $100.

TAPA BONNIE – Raced greenly in the home straight.

TIN HARE – Shifted in and away from another runner approaching the 100m and, in doing so, made contact with the running rail.

HOT CORONA – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Checked for some distance near the 800m to avoid the heels of JUXTAPOSED which shifted in. Jockey K. Yoshida, the rider of JUXTAPOSED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HOT CORONA resulting in that runner being checked for some distance to avoid heels. Jockey Yoshida’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 28 September 2019 and conclude at midnight on Saturday 5 October 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Yoshida’s guilty plea and his excellent prior record in relation to this rule.

Race 5: FURNEYS BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1640M

BENICO’S PRINCE – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages and proved very difficult to restrain and, as a result, raced wide without cover throughout.

BRED FOR LUCK – Bled both nostrils. Trainer T. Pascoe was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. Mr. Pascoe advised that it is now his intention to retire the mare.

MISHANI PHOENIX – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near hind leg. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.

PRICELESS DE HERO – Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 700m.

TELFORD – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

Race 6: JOE WAGNER GROUP PLATE – 1300M

COCO JAMBO – Slow into stride.

GREY COURT – Dipped of its own accord near the 250m.

BELASTRO – Bumped on jumping away.

PERFECT PAGE – Began awkwardly.
