Goltz reported that his mount travelled well during the race but when asked to improve when entering the home straight it failed to quicken as he had expected and, in his opinion, was somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages. COLPO DI TAMBURO – After beginning faster than expected, the gelding was ridden along by its rider in the early stages to obtain a forward position and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated. Jockey E. Ljung was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. MISS AMANDA – Raced in restricted room in the early stages and had to be steadied a short distance later. RED WEDDING – Hung out for some distance approaching and rounding the home turn. ESSAKA – Blundered on jumping away. Race 3: NECTAR MORTGAGES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1210M MORE FIERCE – After initially racing in a 3 wide position, the gelding was forced wider on the track by another runner near the 900m, and then when unable to be restrained by its rider to a position closer to the rail, was forced to race 4 wide without cover for the remainder. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed no apparent abnormalities. MYKISS FROMA ROSE – Raced keenly and proved difficult to restrain in the early stages, and shifted wider on the track. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey Beau-Dene Appo advised that his instructions were to make use of the inside barrier and race in a forward of midfield position if possible. He added that, in light of the instructions, he rode aggressively in the early stages, however this resulted in the mare overracing and proving difficult to restrain. He went on to say that, in his opinion, the mare overracing after being ridden aggressively was the major contributing factor to the poor performance, and he therefore believes that the mare would be better suited when being ridden more conservatively further back in the field. Stewards noted the explanation. MILLEN FALCON – Bumped at the start. FLYASH – After being slightly slow to begin, the mare was then tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. RUFFIN’ IT – Bumped at the start. After obtaining a position one off the fence approaching the 1000m, the gelding was forced wider on the track by another runner and, as a result, raced wide from that point. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn. D’OR DAME – Slow to begin. RABOLINI – Declared a late scratching at 4.00pm due to veterinary reasons. Trainer K. Sims was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing. ROCK ME HUSSEY – Shifted out to secure clear running rounding the home turn and, in doing so, forced a number of runners wider on the track. Jockey R. Palmer, the rider of ROCK ME HUSSEY, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Jockey Palmer reported that her mount hung out from the 700m. HE’S ALL WHITE – Slow to begin. Race 4: ACHILLES MEMORIAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M OUR BOY BORRIS – Jockey E. Ljung reported that her mount was inclined to lay in throughout and, in her opinion, raced somewhat flat today. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 100m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested when PROUD ROC (G. Geran) shifted in under pressure. Jockey G. Geran was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. PROUD ROC – Steadied from heels near the 700m. THE POTATO PONTIFF – Slow to begin. MORNING FARE – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position one off the fence near the 800m. Race 6: SEDL EARTHMOVING CLASS 5 PLATE – 1870M BERNIE’S TIGER – Overraced in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Jockey S. Bogenhuber reported that when the tempo of the race was solid during the middle stages, it was not her intention to cross to the lead passing the 1000m, however due to her mount overracing she was unable to hold her position outside the leader and was therefore forced to cross to the leading position.
