Race Day Stewards’ Report Toowoomba ThoroughbredsDate: Tuesday 5th November 2019Track: Good 4 Weather: FineRail: True Entire Course Stewards Panel: B Cooke (Chairman), J. Childs, T. Preston Officials: G. Laws (Veterinarian) ¦ Club Representatives (Judge) ¦ P. Brennan (starter)General Apprentice Simone Vella was absent from today’s meeting due to injury. Apprentice Vella was advised she would require a medical certificate prior to returning to race riding. Replacements as per steward’s summary.Apprentice J. Morrow was absent from today’s meeting due to illness. Stewards advised Apprentice Morrow that he would require a medical certificate prior to returning to race riding. Replacements as per steward’s summary. Race 1: THE EVENT GROUP CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000m SCHERZARE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, Jockey M. Schrapel advised that in his opinion the runner failed to back from it last run and failed to respond under hard riding throughout. He added that in his opinion the gelding did not benefit from the increase in weight from its last start. Stewards noted Jockey Schrapel’s explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from the offside nostril. Trainer’s representative J. Cavanough was advised the gelding would require a one thousand metre gallop to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to race. MIRACLE STAR – Began awkwardly. Steadied from the heels of another runner to the outside shortly after the start. 2: SEBEL MAROOCHYDORE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 870mDENMAN QUALITY – Eased from heels at the 150m before electing to sift out to obtain clear running when GOOD GRAB shifted in. Jockey K.Yoshida (the rider of GOOD GRAB) was advised to exercise more care. HIDDEN SEQUAL- Began awkwardly and lost ground. SHIITAKE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer L, Gore advised that in her opinion a change in work schedule and a drop back in distance were the contributing factors to todays seemingly improved performance. Stewards noted Mrs Gore’s explanation. Race 3: SANDER PARTNERS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1100m MYKISS FROM A ROSE – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover throughout the middle stages. POP N’N ZAC – Shifted in for a short distance approaching the 800m placing another runner to the inside in restricted room. FITZROY BOY – Placed in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 800m by another runner to the outside. Approaching the 100m shifted in away from TSANI TOPAS, brushing the hind quarters POP ‘N’ ZAC. Raced in restricted room and lost ground over the concluding stages when TSANI TOPAS shifted in. Jockey N. Evans the rider of TSANI TOPAS was reprimanded for careless riding under AR.131(a). Race 4: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1200m INCHING CLOSER – After taking into consideration the submissions of trainer M. Boland in relation to a late gear change for the gelding, Stewards permitted the runner to wear winkers in today’s event. Trainer M. Boland was fined $200 under AR206(2) for failing to effect a gear change. SEQUASI – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Following the event Jockey N. Evans was dislodged upon pulling up. As jockey Evans was absent from weighing in, stewards declared correct weight under AR.208(3)(b). Jockey Evens was subsequently assessed by the Queensland Ambulance Service and was cleared fit to ride. CHECKMATE KING - Raced wide without cover throughout. COL’S TIGER – Stewards permitted Jockey S. Sweedman to ride 0.5kg overweight due to no other riders being available. Race 5: VANDERFIELD JOHN DEERE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1625mStewards inquired into the reasons as to why Jockey S. Sweedman (the rider of SHE LIKES A DRINK) elected to stride forward from a trailing position leaving the 800m to improve into the race. Jockey Sweedman stated that he was instructed by connections to make his run from the 800m as his mount takes plenty of riding. Jockey Sweedman further stated that when he switched around the heels of DROPLET (ridden by Jokckey E. Ljung), DROPLET shifted out, subsequently placing him in a four wide position until he approached the 450m. Jockey Sweedman further stated that upon returning to scale, he advised connections that he was of the opinion he would he benefited from maintaining a trailing position until leaving the 600m. Stewards noted Jockey Sweedman’s explanation. Stewards inquired into the reasons why Jockey E. Ljung (the rider of DROPLET) elected to leave a trailing position, shifting out to a three wide position to improve approaching the 750m. Jockey Ljung advised that she was instructed by connections to keep her mount in clear running and when SHE LIKES A DRINK improved to her outside she elected to shift around the heels of PHEONIX FLYER. Jockey Ljung further stated that her mount failed to respond to hard riding upon rounding the home turn and as a result weakened in the home straight. Stewards advised Jockey Ljung that in their opinion she would have benefitted from maintaining a trailing position behind PHEONIX FLYER. Jockey Ljung was advised to take the stewards comments into consideration. CHASING WAGTAILS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight shifting in at the 100m brushing DROPLET. SOLDIER POY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. ROCKUZZO – Stewards permitted Jockey J.
