QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2019 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 3MPENETROMETER – 4.58 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R. HitchenerStewards – J. Childs, L. Carvosso, T. White, B. McErleanClerk of Scales – ClubJudge – S. Fahey, M. FaheyVeterinarian – Dr. C. WainSwab Attendants – R. Burchmann, E. HodgesStarter – D. HodgsonStewards Secretary – M. Weir Race 1: NAISMITH TRUCK MOVERS BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1300M The start of this race was delayed when CHECKMATE KING and MILLEN FALCON broke through the barriers and cantered a short distance before being restrained. Both horses underwent a veterinary examination upon returning to the barriers, and were passed fit to start. CHECKMATE KING – Forced wider on the track by another runner leaving the 900m and, as a result, raced wide for the remainder. MILLEN FALCON – Hung out rounding the home turn and then laid out under pressure in the home straight. ESKDALE GIRL – After being slightly slow to begin, the mare was then further hampered by another runner at the start. Bumped in the early stages of the home straight. ROCK ME HUSSEY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. FRASCATI MISS – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer M. Nolan regarding the late declaration of J. Woodhouse as rider. Began awkwardly and then shifted out to avoid heels shortly after the start. Stewards questioned jockey J. Woodhouse in relation to the seemingly below market expectation performance of the mare. Jockey Woodhouse advised that the mare did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and was under pressure a considerable distance from home and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. He went on to say that the mare felt short in its action when returning to scale. The trainer’s representative, N. Hahn, also expressed disappointment in the performance, and advised that the stable will report to Stewards in the coming days should anything come to light which may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. TEQUILA BOOM – Began awkwardly. Shifted out to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight and, as a result, bumped another runner. Race 2: BROWN & HURLEY TOOWOOMBA RQ SUMMER PROVINCIAL SPRINTERS SERIES (HEAT) – 1110M BELLA OCCHI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. NEW ALLIANCE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. LOVE YOU LUCY – Raced in restricted room near the 550m. GETS SMOKIN’ – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Forced wider on the track near the 900m and, as a result, raced 3 wide for the remainder. TURBO TEDDY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LOVESON – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m. Raced in restricted room and was checked near the 550m when GETS SMOKIN’ shifted in. Apprentice M. Savva, the rider of GETS SMOKIN’, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 131(a) in that near the 550m she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in which resulted in LOVESON (N. Thomas) and LOVE YOU LUCY (R. Goltz) being placed in restricted room and LOVESON having to be checked at that point. Apprentice Savva’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Sunday 1 December 2019 and conclude at midnight on Monday 9 December 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Savva’s guilty plea and her prior good record in relation to this rule. Stewards were also of the opinion that the degree of carelessness was in the low range. Race 3: DANA AUSTRALIA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1210M I WANT YOUR LOVE – Raced greenly near the 900m and shifted wider on the track for a short distance. Hung out rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track. BETTER BROTHER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. RUFFIN’ IT – Momentarily disappointed for a run whilst rounding the home turn. The gelding was accidentally struck in the vicinity of its head by the whip of another runner approaching the 200m. LEOPARD QUEEN – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the mare’s seemingly improved performance, trainer T. Hall advised that at the horse’s last start it was resuming from a significant spell and it derived a significant fitness benefit from that race. He added that during that first up run the mare was forced to travel wide throughout, which he felt was the major contributing factor to its disappointing performance. He went on to say that he had been pleased with the mare in the time since that run and, whilst he had expected an improved performance, he was somewhat surprised that the mare was able to improve to such a degree to be successful today. LET’S BOOM – After becoming fractious in the tie-up stalls the mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. BRIGHTER DAYS – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. COALBANK CAVALRY – Stewards acceded to trainer M. Boland’s request for the colt to wear blinkers today. Mr. Boland was fined $200 for failing to effect the gear change by the prescribed time. Slow to begin. Laid in in the home straight. MONGELICA – Slow to begin. Race 4: ICE PACK SERVICES CLASS 4 H’CAP – 870M PIERIDAE – Jumped in the air at the start. SHE KEEPS NOSECRET – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. FORTYSHORT – Began awkwardly. CHEVYS DESIRE – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. H. Phillips was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. SHADWELL FLYER – Began awkwardly, and shifted out making contact with another runner. Race 5: CHAMPAGNE & DIAMONDS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1870M The start of this race was delayed when MAJOR OAK became fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. OIA – Bumped on jumping away. HALEIGHOZAE – Bumped heavily on jumping away resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced. KUMARI – Raced keenly in the early stages. I KNOW YVES – Slow to begin. GOLDEN BASIL – Commenced to buck shortly after the start and was retired from the race a short distance later. Trainer S. Cole was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing. JONDY QUALO – Laid in for the majority, and made contact with the running rail for a considerable distance in the back straight. Race 6: ALEMLUBE CLASS 1 PLATE – 1000M FOR MY ANNIE – Laid out rounding the home turn. MURLESS – Proved reluctant to race inside runners in the early stages at which point the gelding raced ungenerously. On return to scale, jockey R. Goltz reported that his mount was outpaced in the early stages and was hard ridden for the majority. He added that the colt made strong late ground over the concluding stages and, and his opinion, would be better suited over distances greater than 1000m at its upcoming starts. MISS HOW LONG – Raced greenly throughout. Race 7: ROADWEST TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT & SALES QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 – 1000M CRAZY GOOD – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey S. Bogenhuber restrained her mount to a position one off the fence in a rearward position near the 800m. Bumped by another runner near the 350m and forced wider on the track. On return to scale, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that, in her opinion, the gelding would be better suited in races over a greater distance than tonight’s race moving forward in its preparation. KASITA – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 350m and shifted out making contact with another runner. LUCKY SENATOR – Slow to begin. TAPA BONNIE – Raced greenly in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees FinesRace 3. Tnr. M.
