Currie was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Laid in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out. Bumped FORTYSHORT over the concluding stages. TURBO TEDDY – Tightened for room and checked when BLACK JAGUAR (Apprentice M. Savva) shifted in near the 800m and, as a result, lost ground. Apprentice M. Savva, the rider of BLACK JAGUAR, who was represented by the jockeys advocate, Mr. B. Saunders, was subsequently charged with careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear which resulted in BEST OF US being taken in onto TURBO TEDDY which was tightened for room and checked near the 800m and, as a result, lost ground. In this incident SIR BAM was also severely checked from the heels of TURBO TEDDY. The inquiry was subsequently adjourned to enable Apprentice Savva’s master, Mr. M. Boland, to be present at the inquiry. SIR BAM – Tightened for room on jumping away. Severely checked from the heels of TURBO TEDDY near the 800m. Shifted away from heels over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed a laceration to its near hind fetlock. FLIM FLAN MAN – Declared a late scratching at 9.20am when no rider was available at the time of scratching. LOVESON – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer T. Lunney regarding the late declaration of J. Grob as rider. FORTYSHORT – Bumped by another runner and forced inwards over the concluding stages. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey N. Evans advised that after beginning well his mount was caught wide and he permitted the mare to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the leaving the 700m. He added that when placed under pressure the mare compounded quickly and proved disappointing. Trainer N. Gay reported that the mare had been galloped on on its off hind leg, however he could otherwise offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance. Mr. Gay undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the performance. BLACK JAGUAR – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Shifted in abruptly of its own accord near the 300m. Steadied to avoid heels over the concluding stages. SHIITAKE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off fore leg. Trainer L. Gore was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. Raced wide throughout. NO QUALM – Tightened for room on jumping away. BARTA LINES – Slow to begin. Laid in in the home straight. STRATA KING – Slipped behind on jumping away and lost considerable ground. Laid in in the middle stages. Raced greenly throughout. WEATHER MAN – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice J. Huxtable advised that after beginning well his mount was caught wide, and he permitted the gelding to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 600m. ERROL – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure in the middle part of the home straight. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer P. Nolan Jnr advised that the horse’s previous start at Toowoomba was a mid-week metropolitan meeting and was much stronger in class than that of today’s race. KASITA – Slow to begin and then further hampered at the start when crossed quickly by another runner. Steadied from heels near the 700m.
