SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Toowoomba 06.10.19 – Race 6
 
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding C. Frater (CATCH ME LATAR) and N. Thomas (STRIKE SIKA) both being dislodged whilst rounding the home turn. After taking initial evidence on the night in question, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to allow Ms. Frater to give evidence as she had been transported to hospital on the night. Stewards today took initial evidence from Ms. Frater and further evidence from Beau Appo (CAPTAIN CRUMPET). In consideration of the evidence today and further reviewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that rounding the home turn CAPTAIN CRUMPET laid out slightly which momentarily presented a run for CATCH ME LATAR to obtain between CAPTAIN CRUMPET and the running rail. Stewards further noted that CATCH ME LATAR, when initially attempting to obtain this run, had a tendency to lay in and away from CAPTAIN CRUMPET and, as a result, made contact with the running rail. A short distance later CAPTAIN CRUMPET, whilst commencing to weaken, then shifted back inwards resulting in CATCH ME LATAR being tightened for room, blundering and C. Frater becoming unbalanced and dislodged. N. Thomas, whose mount was racing in close proximity to CATCH ME LATAR at this point, became unbalanced when bumped by CATCH ME LATAR, and was dislodged at this point. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Beau Appo had ridden carelessly at this point, bearing in mind his attempts to straighten CAPTAIN CRUMPET when he became aware that CATCH ME LATAR was in restricted room, they took the matter no further and deemed it a racing incident.
 
Race 1: RICHARD ADAMS HOMES CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1200M
 
VICTORY TOAST – Jockey J. Oliver could offer no tangible explanation for the mare’s disappointing performance today. He advised that the mare did not travel strongly on the bit at any stage of the race, and particularly in the early stages when he attempted to obtain the leading position as per his pre-race instructions. Trainer B. Gorman was also unable to offer any explanation for the mare’s poor performance other than it had come to the end of its preparation. He advised that in light of the performance, he will now send the mare for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant findings. A post-race swab sample was taken from the mare.
 
SUPERSONIC BOOM – Laid in for the majority of the race.
 
BY THE LAW – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
Race 2: FURNEYS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
 
BUZZER BEATER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SARA MAN – When attempting to shift to a one off position from behind the leader near the 900m, the gelding was prevented from doing so by LUCKY SIREN and, as a result, made contact with that runner. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the gelding’s poor performance, jockey J. Woodhouse advised that it was his intention to lead as per his mount’s customary racing pattern, however he was crossed by a runner with superior speed in the early stages. He added that he attempted to shift to a one off position passing the 1000m to afford the gelding clear galloping room, however he was unable to obtain this position and from that point the gelding commenced to hang inwards and never travelled strongly. Jockey Woodhouse went on to say that, in his opinion, the gelding races best when able to obtain its customary leading position, however he could offer no further explanation regarding the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.
 
SHE LIKES A DRINK – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
LUCKY SIREN – Bumped on jumping away. Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Jockey E. Ljung could offer no explanation for the mare’s disappointing performance today. She advised that after travelling well during the race, her mount failed to quicken when asked to do so and compounded in the home straight. She added that she had ridden the mare in track work the day prior to today’s race, and it had felt free in its action after travelling from Scone on Thursday 30 January 2020. Trainer B. Cavanough was at a loss to explain the poor performance. He advised that the mare had galloped well on the Tuesday prior to today’s race and, based on that work, he had expected a forward showing. Mr. Cavanough added that, whilst it is his intention to continue with the mare’s current preparation, he will review the manner in which the horse recovers from this event and will report to Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant findings.
 
ALL ELLIE – Momentarily held up at the heels of a tiring runner near the 400m.
 
RAKU’S SECRET – Slow to begin. Held up at the heels of tiring runners whilst rounding the home turn, and then had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight when SARA MAN, which was racing to the filly’s outside, was laying in.
 
Race 3: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1100M
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey S. Lacy, the rider of 3rd placegetter SEE FOR YOURSELF, and Apprentice N. Fazackerley, the rider of 4th placegetter LAST ARMAGEDDON, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter WINE BARREL (C. Frater). After viewing the films, both riders indicated that they did not wish to proceed. Following this decision by both riders, Stewards further reviewed the patrol footage to determine whether a protest should be lodged on behalf of the relevant connections, however they also elected not to proceed with an objection, particularly bearing in mind the margin between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placegetters at the conclusion of the race, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
LAST ARMAGEDDON – Severely tightened for room and checked near the 100m when WINE BARREL shifted in whilst hanging in despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer R. Lipp (WINE BARREL) was advised that WINE BARREL will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing as a result of this incident.
 
WINE BARREL – Hung in from the 500m.
 
ALLEVIATOR – Laid in in the middle stages. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the disappointing performance, jockey J. Oliver advised that the gelding travelled only fairly throughout, and when placed under pressure from the 600m commenced to lay in and proved disappointing in the home straight. Trainer M. Currie could offer no explanation for the gelding’s poor performance today, however he undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the performance. He added that he will now give consideration to the horse’s future in his stable. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings. A post-race swab sample was taken from the gelding.
 
SEE FOR YOURSELF – Bumped near the 100m and became unbalanced.
 
REAL PATRIOT – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied to avoid heels near the 100m.
 
FANTASAY – Slow to begin. Bumped heavily on the hindquarters near the 150m and became unbalanced.
 
TIN’S POCKET – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: CREATE WITH COTTEE MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
 
HARALDIGO – Laid in whilst racing greenly in the early stages of the home straight and bumped another runner.
 
KNUCKLEBOX – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
THE HAND – Bumped at the start.
 
COALBANK CAVALRY – Bumped at the start. Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner passing the 100m and shifted wider on the track.
 
SADDLE BOY – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENCUMBERED SOUL – Steadied near the 150m when placed in restricted room whilst weakening.
 
RHETORICAL – Bumped by another runner near the 200m and lost ground.
 
DONKEY KONG – Buffeted between runners in the early stages and lost ground.
 
Race 5: LIVING GEMS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1850M
 
NIATROSS – Slow to begin. Apprentice N. Fazackerley could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding which he reported raced flat today. He advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is coming to the end of its preparation. Following the race, trainer D. Groves advised that the gelding has come to the end of its preparation and will be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near fore leg. Mr. Groves was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. A post-race swab sample was taken from the gelding.
 
MR MISUNDERSTOOD – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Declared a late scratching at 1.52pm for veterinary reasons.
 
MOSS GO NOW – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

Race 6: HELLO HARRY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
 
BEAN BAG – Improved onto heels and was checked near the 700m.
 
BEST TO HURRY – Checked from heels and lost ground near the 600m when a runner forward of the gelding was checked.
 
MY BYE – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
KISUKANO – Began awkwardly and then bumped shortly after the start.
 
Race 7: HYGAIN MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
 
WEALTH’N’POWER – Began awkwardly.
