SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Toowoomba – Tuesday 11.02.2020
Race 5 – Apprentice M. Savva was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip on MADDIARA prior to the 100m.
GENERAL
As M. Schrapel was not attending the meeting today due to injury, riding replacements were made in Races 1 and 5 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: PRYDE’S EASIFEED BIOMARE CUBES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1210M
After becoming fractious in the enclosure, GREY SKIES dislodged its rider and galloped a short distance before being recaptured. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to review the patrol footage to ascertain whether SIZZLING SUN had been afforded a fair start as it had missed the start by several lengths. After viewing the films, Stewards found that the mare had lunged forward in the barriers just prior to the start being effected and made very heavy contact with the front gates and, as a result, stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. As Stewards were satisfied that SIZZLING SUN had been afforded a fair start, the mare was declared a runner. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare immediately following the race revealed no significant findings. A subsequent examination of the mare revealed the presence of blood in one nostril. As Stewards were satisfied that the presence of blood was the result of external trauma relating to the incident at the barriers, they took no further action.
Stewards further reviewed the start of the race to determine whether LOVE YERS ALL had gained any advantage at the start. After viewing the films, Stewards found that, after lunging forward simultaneously with the start being effected, LOVE YERS ALL had begun well and appeared to jump ahead of the remainder of the field. As Stewards were satisfied that the mare had not gained any advantage at the start as its barrier had opened simultaneously with the rest of the field, they took no further action.
LOTZA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ACCUMULATED – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
GREY SKIES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
COUPE DE VILLE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced keenly and proved difficult to restrain in the early and middle stages. Steadied from heels near the 900m. Steadied near the 500m when racing in restricted room to the inside of RAPIDO GRIS (Beau-Dene Appo) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Appo was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
Race 2: PRYDE’S EASIFEED EASIPERFORMANCE BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1300M
COURT RULES – Commenced to lay in near the 400m and, as a result, had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track.
AURORA CHARM – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that, after beginning on terms with the rest of the field, the gelding failed to muster the speed she had anticipated and, as a result, she was unable to cross the runners to her inside and was forced to race wide without cover throughout. She added that despite racing wide, the gelding had failed to quicken as she had anticipated when asked to improve from the 600m, and then compounded in the home straight and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.
QUART POT – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer D. Baker regarding the late declaration of E. Ljung as rider. Held up and unable to improve for some distance rounding the home turn. Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m and again near the 300m.
BRIDGET’S DIARY – Hung out rounding the home turn.
Race 3: PRYDE’S EASIFEED RACING CUBE CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1050M
THE GREAT BOOMBINO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Tightened for room and checked near the 850m when ANOTHER SIN shifted in and, as a result, lost ground.
KING OF THE DESERT – Hung out rounding the home turn. Lost the off fore plate in running.
STAR ADELE – Began awkwardly.
SHE KEEPS NOSECRET – Steadied shortly after the start. Tightened for room and eased when ANOTHER SIN shifted in near the 850m. E. Ljung, the rider of ANOTHER SIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 850m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SHE KEEPS NOSECRET resulting in that runner being taken in, tightened for room and eased. In this incident, THE GREAT BOOMBINO, which was racing to the inside of SHE KEEPS NOSECRET, was also tightened for room and checked by its rider and, as a result, lost ground. Jockey Ljung’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 22 February 2020 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 4 March 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Ljung’s guilty plea and her prior good record in relation to this rule.
Race 4: FURNEYS MAIDEN PLATE – 1110M
Upon arriving at the barriers, jockey K. Yoshida expressed some concern with the action of HE’S NOT FOCUSED. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination, and was declared a late scratching at 6.28pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on HE’S NOT FOCUSED be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
3 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9
FLYING EDDIE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
ENRAGED – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey E. Ljung advised that her mount travelled comfortably throughout, however when placed under pressure some distance from home, the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. She added that on returning to scale the gelding felt short in its action behind. Trainer D. Groves expressed disappointment in the performance, however he noted that the gelding was only having its second start for his stable, and prior to its first up run in his care, it only had moderate form. As the veterinary surgeon was attending to another horse requiring treatment, ENRAGED was unable to be examined prior to leaving the course. In light of jockey Ljung’s comments, Stewards will ask Mr. Groves’ veterinary surgeon to examine the horse in the coming days, with any significant findings be reported to Stewards.
KENNEDY TERRACE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. After being crossed near the 900m, the gelding commenced to race keenly and proved difficult to restrain for a short distance.
SADDLE BOY – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
THE HAND – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BILL OF RIGHTS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in for the majority of the race.
Race 5: PRYDE’S. EXCEPTIONAL. ALWAYS. CLASS 1 PLATE – 1640M
The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.
OCTAVIAN – Slow to begin.
NORTHERN DRAGON – Steadied from heels when disappointed for a run near the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and had to be straightened by its rider near the 50m.

Race 6: COCA COLA AMATIL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1640M
The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.

MORGAUSE – Slow to begin.
Race 7: PRYDE’S EASIFEED SINCE 1986 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 870M
SERTIN – Bumped on jumping away. Had a tendency to lay in in the home straight and, as a result, had to be straightened by its rider passing the 200m. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Tomizawa’s prior good record in relation to this rule.
MOCKING – Jockey E. Ljung was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
MAXBUX – Bumped by another runner near the 400m. Steadied near the 500m to avoid the heels of SERTIN (N. Tomizawa) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Tomizawa was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at that point.
LITTLE MISS ADDI – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. As the filly was having its first race start today, Stewards issued a warning against the filly for being uncompetitive.
AFTER THE STORM – Bumped by another runner near the 400m. Jockey H. Phillips was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful that the filly had won the race.
