GENERAL
Stewards accepted the explanations provided by a number of trainers regarding the late declaration of various riders as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
As A. Chau was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made in Races 4, 5, 9 and 10 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Chau was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
As G. Colless was to be overweight, he was unable to fulfil his engagements in Races 3, 8 and 11 and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey G. Colless was fined $200.
Race 1: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M
The start of this race was initially delayed when MOTOMISS shifted its off hind plate in the enclosure which had to be refitted in the tie up stall before the filly proceeded to the barriers.
The start was further delayed when MITHU dislodged jockey R. Maloney enroute to the barriers before galloping a full circuit of the course riderless and making contact with the outside running rail. The filly was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 12.07pm with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
30 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
10 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
30 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
30 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that MITHU had sustained abrasions to its forehead and off hind canon, and also sustained some slight bruising to its off fore shoulder.
The start was then further delayed when LET’S GROOVE, which became fractious and reared in the barriers on a number of occasions, was removed from the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination and cleared to start.
DROP THE PILOT – Slow to begin.
DINNY’S A SUSPECT – Slow to begin. Bumped shortly after the start and became awkwardly placed at the heels of JOJO GO.
DUSTY HAZE – Resented being restrained and threw its head in the air approaching the 700m.
SNAP THE LUCK – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Commenced to lay out after passing the 600m and raced 3 wide without cover from that point.
JOJO GO – Shifted out shortly after the start.
LET’S GROOVE – Slow to begin.
Race 2: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when SHIRAISHI and STRUMAN proved difficult to load.
BECKFORD – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
COMFORTABLY NUMB – Bumped heavily by BECKFORD on jumping away. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when BECKFORD shifted out to improve approaching the 400m.
DOCTOR COSTELLO – Hung out rounding the home turn.
GO FACTOR – As R. Plumb was to be overweight, Apprentice N. Keal was substituted as rider. Jockey R. Plumb was fined $100.
VALLETTA KNIGHT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
MY BEST EFFORT – When the pace steadied passing the 700m, the filly commenced to overrace and was steadied from the heels of DISARMED.
SHIRAISHI – Proved difficult to load. Slow to begin. When the pace steadied passing the 700m, the filly improved onto the heels of DOCTOR COSTELLO and was restrained and shifted out and, in doing so, raced ungenerously for a short distance. Slightly inconvenienced when DOCTOR COSTELLO shifted out to improve approaching the 200m.
STRUMAN – Proved difficult to load. After being caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages, the filly was allowed to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 800m.
Race 3: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M
MOUNT PANORAMA – After being bumped by GRATSIE passing the 1200m, commenced to overrace and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1100m. After racing in a forward position, commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled it will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.
BATTLE PLANE – Raced 3 wide without cover approaching the first turn before being allowed to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 1200m.
AMAZINGLY – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden towards the rear of the field today if circumstances permit. The gelding was restrained from the wide barrier and ridden accordingly. Commenced to overrace when settling towards the rear of the field in the middle stages. Raced 3 wide with cover after passing the 800m.
FILTERS – Bumped on a couple of occasions and forced wider on the track by WHITE COLLAR which was shifting out to improve approaching the 400m.
ELECTRIC ELLYSE – Held up from the 400m until approaching the 250m.
GRATSIE – Commenced to overrace approaching the 1200m, and shifted out and away from the heels of LINCOLN’S COMMAND and, in doing so, bumped MOUNT PANORAMA which was forced 3 wide.
TRUST ISSUES – As G. Colless was to be overweight, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider. Inconvenienced by OUR RED JET passing the 1500m.
OUR RED JET – Made the crossing at the 1500m awkwardly and shifted out. Shifted to a 3 wide position to improve passing the 800m.
Race 4: FOCUS HR CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M
RERUN – After being caught 3 wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1200m.
EVIE MATILDA – Shifted 3 wide to improve after passing the 700m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight resulting in its rider having to stop and straighten the mare on a number of occasions. Lost the off hind plate in running.
SKYQUAKE – Began awkwardly.
DANNIWILLBREEZONBY – Held up from the 400m until straightening.
MISS SILKY – After being caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages, the filly was unable to be restrained to obtain cover and the rider allowed his mount to stride forward passing the 1100m to settle in a position outside the leader passing the 900m.
STRONG DESIRE – Shifted 4 wide to improve after passing the 700m.
Race 5: POTTERS BOUTIQUE HOTEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Commenced to hang in approaching the 600m and continued to do so for the remainder which resulted in the rider having some difficulty in riding the gelding out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress. Trainer S. Hardy was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Mr. Hardy advised Stewards that he may now experiment with some gear changes for the horse’s future starts.
DEEP STATE – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of ZANAZOU and shifted out approaching the 500m.
HEART OF TOORAK – Began awkwardly.
GUNNOBE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Bumped passing the 400m.
IN HER ZONE – Lost the off hind plate in running.
WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Bumped passing the 400m.
CROOKED ARROW – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
RED MONKEY – Slow to begin.
MALEFIC – Raced wide rounding the home turn. Bumped and forced wider on the track by EAST ESPLANADE which shifted out to improve approaching the 200m. Jockey A. Mallyon, the rider of EAST ESPLANADE, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in the future.
Race 6: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when the bridle on BEACH CLUB had to be adjusted upon arriving at the barriers.
The start was further delayed when ETHANOL GIRL proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer K. Monckton was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s pre-race manners.
HEART ATTACK – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
MISHANI COURAGE – Began awkwardly and shifted in, and then shortly after the start had to be checked when tightened for room by MAHUSSEY which was taken out by BEACH CLUB and, as a result, lost considerable ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
SOARING ARROW – After beginning well from the wide barrier, the horse was ridden forward in an attempt to obtain the lead, but after passing the 900m was unable to cross runners to the inside, and was caught 3 wide without cover and raced in that position for the remainder.
LAST EDITION – Held up passing the 400m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening SOARING ARROW before shifting out and bumping PINEAPPLE BOOM.
REAL CLASSIC – Held up rounding the home turn.
STARCASTER – Began awkwardly and shifted out crowding BEACH CLUB and MAHUSSEY.
MAHUSSEY – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
PINEAPPLE BOOM – As M. Palmer was to be overweight, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider. Jockey M. Palmer was fined $100. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
INSTANTANEOUS – Slow to begin.
Race 7: K&R PLUMBLING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 68 H’CAP – 1850M
FACTORY WARRIOR – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. After obtaining a 1 wide trailing position passing the 1500m, the gelding commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of LI’L RODDGE, and again had to be restrained from the heels of LI’L RODGE passing the 1100m.
HARADIFY – Apprentice N. Keal was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of the whip prior to the 100m.
REXX – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly and was restrained to a rearward position. Resented being restrained and threw its head on a number of occasions passing the 1600m.
ALADINA – Bumped on jumping away.
STUDLY ROOSTER – Laid out before being corrected by its rider approaching the 1600m.
LOTZA – Reared prior to the start being effected.
TAKEITTOTHELIMIT – Reared slightly as the start was effected.
THE POTATO PONTIFF – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of the weakening LI’L RODGE approaching the 300m, and was held up for a short distance before securing clear running back to the inside approaching the 200m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
Mrs. T. Colless (formerly T. Di Mattina), the stable representative for trainer Mr. C. Waller, pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under AR. 227(a) in that she applied the incorrect saddles to REXX and OBELOS which were presented to the saddling enclosure which led to a breach of AR. 106(2). Both riders were re-weighed before the horses were resaddled. Mrs. Colless was fined $300. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mrs. Colless’ guilty plea, and the stable’s prior good record in relation to this rule.
Race 8: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1000M
LILLI LIGHTS OUT – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. When placed under pressure after passing the 400m, the filly failed to respond and weakened in the home straight, and finished at the rear of the field. Apprentice N. Keal reported that he desisted from pressuring his mount over the final 200m as he felt that something may have been amiss with the filly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
ZAITEKI – As G. Colless was to be overweight, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider.
DEADLY ONE – Commenced to overrace passing the 700m. Steadied away from the heels of ZAITEKI approaching the 500m.
MISS LUCINDA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
SPINNING SPIRIT – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader approaching the 600m.
SAMURAI – As J. Guthmann-Chester was to be overweight, K. Yoshida was substituted as rider. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was fined $100. Began awkwardly.
PERFECT SAGA – On returning to the enclosure, the filly was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
SISTER KATHLEEN – Slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start.
Race 9: SEDL AGENCIES BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1050M
I AM THE GENERAL – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping heavily with WRITE THE RULES. Held up rounding the home turn.
LINE UP – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
WRITE THE RULES – Bumped heavily on jumping away and was then forced out onto the hindquarters of YOUR OPTION.
FANTASAY – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced and had to be eased when I AM THE GENERAL shifted out to improve passing the 250m.
YOUR OPTION – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away.
CLANG AGAIN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 10: WIPPELLS MAZDA BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1050M
CAMBOOYA ROCK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
MY BELLY BUTTON – Held up from the 400m until approaching the 300m. Had to be checked passing the 300m when disappointed for a run to the inside of FLYING FROG (B. Appo) and to the outside of WALL STREET TYCOON (App. M. Shimodaira) which shifted out. Shortly after MY BELLY BUTTON was shifted out across the heels of FLYING FROG to improve. Apprentice M. Shimodaira was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in the future.
ZOU DER ZEE – Slow to begin.
LOVESON – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from its off side nostril. Trainer T. Lunney was advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
EL DEMONIO – Hampered shortly after jumping. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
FLYING FROG – Steadied away from heels when racing keenly passing the 600m.
SOLO ARTIST – After beginning from the wide barrier, the mare was restrained to the rear of the field to find a position closer to the rail.
PULLA SWIFTY – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
Race 11: PRO-CLEAR BENCHMARK 68 H’CAP – 1300M
The start of this race was delayed when THE HAND proved difficult to load.
HIGHER LOVE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
JELVISS – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
THE TYLER – Became loose in the tie up stall area prior to entering the enclosure before being recaptured. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was cleared to start. Momentarily crowded for room approaching the 400m when MISHANI BLOSSOM shifted out before being corrected by its rider, and shortly after became awkwardly placed at the heels of VERTICAL which laid in slightly and, as a result, THE TYLER clipped that runner’s heels and blundered.
MADDIARA – As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as rider. After being crossed by other runners near the 1100m, the filly commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels, and was shifted 3 wide and allowed to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 700m.
MISHANI BLOSSOM – After being crossed by other runners near the 1100m, the filly commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels. Held up after passing the 400m until approaching the 250m.
