GENERAL

Due to a clerical error EVIE MATILDA was not initially advertised on Racing Australia’s website as a scratching in Race 3 at 7.45am, which was its official scratching time. This error was later rectified by Racing Australia.

Race 1: HELLO HARRY BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 870M

BOSS’S BOY – Held up rounding the home turn.

MOCKING – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

POINTSTOHAPPINESS – Had to be eased approaching the 150m when crowded for room by SECLUDE which laid in, and then went to the line without being fully tested. Jockey L. Dittman, the rider of SECLUDE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

JAZZY’S ANGEL – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

FLAUNT – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of POINTSTOHAPPINESS and had to be restrained approaching the 400m.

SPLENDID SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air, resulting in jockey S. Bogenhuber being struck in the face. Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 300m. On return to scale, jockey Bogenhuber was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1110M

The start of this race was delayed when KRAKATOA ERUPTION proved difficult to load. Trainer D. Ainsworth was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare.

The start was further delayed when THE MINIVAN also proved difficult to load.

GET ME CHARLIE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

BESTIE – Raced keenly whilst in a trailing position in the middle stages.

THE MINIVAN – Proved difficult to load. Slow to begin.

KRAKATOA ERUPTION – Proved difficult to load. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

DO IT – Began awkwardly. Steadied away from the heels of MISSLLEERS approaching the 900m.

EASY TIGER – Disappointed for a run between EL DEMONIO and MISSLEERS passing the 200m and had to be eased, and shifted wider on the track to improve.

PULLA SWIFTY – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

ANGELS LOVE – Hampered on jumping away.

STORM ANCHOR – Commenced to weaken after passing the 300m and finished a distant last. The gelding returned to the enclosure making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Drysdale reported that the tongue-tie on the gelding had become displaced during the race which may have had a bearing on its performance today.

Race 3: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1870M

TEMUJIN’S RULE – Crowded for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

ANIMAL INSTINCT – Raced 3 wide in a midfield position in the early stages, before being allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead passing the 1100m.

EVIE MATILDA – Declared a late scratching at 7.45am after trainer J. Smerdon advised that the mare had sustained an injury to its near fore tendon.

WESTBROOK WARRIOR – Shifted 3 wide to improve passing the 800m, and obtained the lead passing the 500m. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.

STRONG DESIRE – Steadied away from the heels of ANIMAL INSTINCT when approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

Race 4: VALE DARRYL GOLLAN BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1300M

STORMY GREY – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Apprentice N. Fazackerley accidentally dropped his whip passing the 300m.

BEAT ZA DRUM – Eased passing the 900m when crowded for room by MAKE ME RICH WITCH which laid in.

OKANAGAN MISS – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Kropp advised that the instructions were for the mare to be in a handy position today if possible. He added that, after beginning well from the inside barrier, the mare was able to lead without pressure, and with the step up in distance it was able to dictate the tempo to suit. He went on to say that the mare was down significantly in class for today’s race, and when ridden in this manner it has previously performed well.  Stewards noted the explanation.

MAKE ME RICH WITCH – After being crossed by TAINTED AFFAIR passing the 1000m, the mare commenced to overrace, and then laid in passing the 900m and slightly crowded BEAT ZA DRUM, and then continued to race keenly from that point. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished in a rearward position. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-trainers T. and M. Sears advised that in light of the performance today, the horse will now be sent for an immediate spell.

PRONOUNCEMENT – Slow to begin.

MISS MAKEPEACE – Forced 3 wide by MAKE ME RICH WITCH which shifted out passing the 900m after crowding BEAT ZA DRUM. Raced 3 wide without cover from that point. Bumped by PAT’S GIRL passing the 300m. Inconvenienced between STORMY GREY and PAT’S GIRL passing the 300m when PAT’S GIRL laid out slightly.

Race 5: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1300M

SIR BAM – Raced in restricted room to the inside of MASTER OF NORWAY after passing the 900m when that runner was bumped and taken in by INCHING CLOSER.

MASTER OF NORWAY – Raced in restricted room between SIR BAM and INCHING CLOSER between the 900m and the 700m.

ABB ROY – Hampered on jumping away. After passing the 1000m, the gelding was ridden forward to obtain the lead passing the 800m.

INCHING CLOSER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung in approaching the 300m despite the efforts of its rider which placed its rider at some disadvantage until passing the 150m where it was able to shift out around the heels of ABB ROY to improve. Trainer M. Boland advised that he may experiment with some gear changes for the horse’s future starts.

TAVI MCBRIDE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Bumped and forced wider on the track passing the 400m when MASTER OF NORWAY shifted out to improve.

BY THE LAW – Disappointed for a run to the inside of TAVI MCBRIDE approaching the 300m and had to be eased, and shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

HIDDEN SECRET – After arriving on course late due to transport difficulties, the filly underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid in whilst weakening passing the 400m and, in doing so, crowded GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS.

SPIRIT OF EDYN – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running and was steadied away from the heels of SIR BAM which shifted out to improve passing the 400m. Bumped with HIDDEN SECRET and was held up for clear running passing the 300m. Improved onto the heels of INCHING CLOSER and was checked approaching the 100m, and went to the line without being fully tested.

Race 6: TAYLOR BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 52 H’CAP – 1640M

COLUMN – After passing the 1300m, the gelding was initially restrained by its rider when in the trailing position, and then shortly after was crossed by ABOVE THE SKY. Shifted 3 wide to improve approaching the 1100m before obtaining the lead passing the 800m. When questioned regarding tactics adopted, Apprentice A. Patis advised that her instructions were to place her mount in a handy position, and to be mindful that the gelding is one paced  and avoid being held up if possible. Stewards asked Apprentice Patis if there had been an opportunity for  COLUMN to remain in a 1 wide position behind GAME SET MATCH passing the 1200m, and therefore place ABOVE THE SKY (M. Cahill) in a 3 wide position to the outside of her mount. Apprentice Patis advised that because her mount was racing keenly she restrained in an attempt to settle the gelding, and whilst being restrained ABOVE THE SKY was afforded the opportunity to secure a 1 wide position in front of COLUMN. Apprentice Patis added that she then had difficulty restraining the gelding and therefore elected to shift 3 wide to improve. Having regard to Apprentice Patis’ relative inexperience as an apprentice rider, Stewards took the matter no further other than to advise Apprentice Patis that she is expected to make more of an effort to hold her position in similar circumstances in the future.

GREY TOP – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

PEXBURY AVENUE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Steadied away from the heels of CROOKED ARROW passing the 100m.

HARD EVIDENCE – Slow to begin.

FUSI FOX – Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished in a rearward position. Jockey T. Gray advised that the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. Trainer J. Perry advised that in light of the performance, he may experiment with the addition of a tongue-tie to the horse’s gear for its next start.

CROOKED ARROW – Raced 3 wide without cover from the 800m.

Race 7: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

BAD INK – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and, as a result, lost ground.

SILVAPLANA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

EMMABROOKE – Slow to begin. Held up whilst racing greenly rounding the home turn. Laid in passing the 300m.

SNACCIDENT – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer P. Kalinowski was advised that the filly will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.

Race 8: TAB MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

ARATULA – Bumped on jumping away.

BONNIE ROMANCE – Slow to begin.
