As C. Frater was not attending the meeting today due to illness, a riding replacement was made in Race 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Frater was advised that she will require a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Race 1: KENNARDS HIRE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

CROSBY ROAD – After being advised by trainer S. Dwyer that the gelding had some swelling on its off side rump, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. After racing in a forward position, CROSBY ROAD failed to respond when asked for an effort passing the 400m, and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities other than that the horse was exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

PERSIAN KING – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

DANINA – Bumped on jumping. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

GHABBIE – Trainer N. Hocking advised that it would be the intention for Apprentice M. Kennedy to limit the use of her whip on the filly.

JOJO GO – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

SERRATALLI – Failed to muster speed in the early stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Secured a run to the inside of GHABBIE passing the 150m. When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey M. Cahill advised that after SERRATALLI was unable to muster early speed, he had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, however once the filly was afforded clear running, it ran on well. He added that, in his opinion, the filly would improve with the experience, and would be better suited over further distances than that of today’s race.

SHE’S WHITTIE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

URALBA – Raced greenly in the home straight.

Race 2: TAB QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when RYANO, which made contact with the fence in the enclosure, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arriving at the barriers, and cleared to start.

The start of this race was further delayed when AMERICAN REUNION became fractious behind the barriers and dislodged jockey S. Bogenhuber. Jockey Bogenhuber was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her engagement.

EDRADOUR – Bumped on jumping. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. After travelling well for the majority, the gelding commenced to weaken when placed under pressure near the 400m and finished a distant last. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Groves advised that in light of the performance today it is now his intention for the gelding to be retired. CHINESE DYNASTY – As the gelding has not raced for over 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and as cleared to start. Slow to begin, and then shifted out abruptly and lost ground. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished a distant last. Apprentice A. Thompson advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may have resented the tongue tie. Apprentice A. Thompson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 132(6)(c) in that he used his whip on CHINESE DYNASTY when it was out of contention. Apprentice Thompson was fined $200.

EMPIRE DAY – Jockey M. McGillivray reported that the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. Trainer H. Richardson advised that he may add a tongue tie to the horse’s gear for its next start.

RANGAS RULE – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of LOVE IS ALL AROUND approaching the 500m when attempting a narrow run to the outside of that runner’s heels, and was then bumped by EMPIRE DAY which had improved to its outside.

BAD INK – Stood flat-footed and missed the start by several lengths. Improved onto the heels of TEST THEROCK approaching the 700m and had to be restrained. Trainer J. Anderson was advised that the gelding will require two further barrier certificates, including one in an official trial, prior to racing again.

He added that he was surprised by the speed shown in the early stages, and was also slightly surprised by the gelding’s performance today. Stewards noted Mr. Groves’ comments, however they reminded him of his obligation to advise Stewards should it be his intention for the horse to be ridden in a manner which is different to its previous starts. A post-race swab sample was taken from the gelding.
