Apprentice C. Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 232(b) in that he failed to comply with a direction of a security official when entering the course. Apprentice C. Bayliss was fined $500. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for Apprentice C. Bayliss failing to comply with the direction of a Steward during the course of a Stewards inquiry in relation to this matter, and also in relation to his further failure to comply with a direction to remain on course.
Race 1: AG RIGGING MAIDEN PLATE – 2175M
CHINESE DYNASTY – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Trainer M. Boland advised that in light of today’s performance, it is now his intention for the gelding to leave his stable. Nevertheless, Mr. Boland was advised that should the gelding return to racing, it must first barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.
RECALL EVENTS – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and lost ground.
THE SEVEN FALLS – Failed to muster early speed. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. The trainer’s representative was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
FIORELLI – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward in the field today if circumstances permit. After being ridden along after leaving the barriers, the gelding was unable to muster early speed and, as a result of racing wide, was restrained to a rearward position near the 1600m.
SHADOW ECLIPSE – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and lost ground. Trainer S. Kendrick reported that the gelding had bled from one nostril whilst being transported back to his stables. Mr. Kendrick was advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
DOMINICA ROSE – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. Overraced in the early stages and, as a result, was unable to be restrained to a more rearward position as per the proposed change of tactics. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. He added that on debut, the colt was slow to begin and then proved very disappointing throughout. Mr. Nolan went on to say that following that run he had been pleased with the colt’s work, and whilst he was not entirely surprised by its vastly improved performance today, he was somewhat surprised that it was able to be successful. Stewards noted the explanation.
