QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – FRIDAY 5 JUNE 2020 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – SOFT 5RAIL – 0.5M PENETROMETER – 5.1 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R. HitchenerStewards – E. Barron, B. McErlean, P. JenkinsClerk of Scales – S. FaheyJudge – M. Fahey, B. PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr. C. WainSwab Attendants – R. Burchmann, A. ChallenStarter – T. WoodhamStewards Secretary – M. Weir GENERAL As Andrew Spinks was not attending the meeting today for personal reasons, a riding replacement was made in Race 10 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: HYGAIN MAIDEN PLATE – 870M HIDDEN EYES – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Raced greenly for the majority. BEATING DRUM – Began awkwardly and shifted in. LET SARA ROCK – As the mare had not raced for over 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. CAT TWO – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages and shifted out abruptly approaching the 400m. PRINCESS KNIGHT – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. GHABBIE – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer N. Hocking advised that he had only taken over the training of the filly this preparation, and he therefore could not explain its poor performance in its first start in a race. He added that when first up for his stable the filly had performed well when only beaten 3.4 lengths, and at its most recent start, after travelling in a forward position, it had failed to handle the heavy 10 track when asked to improve in the straight. He went on to say that, in his opinion, the filly was better suited by today’s track conditions, and he had therefore expected an improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation. COININ – Steadied to avoid heels whilst racing greenly and shifted out abruptly near the 400m. Race 2: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M MONTE SANTO – Laid in from the 600m. PADDLEPOP – Shifted out to avoid heels when racing fiercely near the 700m. MINTY BOY – Threw its head in the air at the start and lost ground. MISS MARGS – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 700m. SHE DRIVES ME WILD – Slow to begin. Trainer P. Cartledge was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly for being uncompetitive in its first race start today. MORE THAN CHARGED – Apprentice M. Kennedy’s saddle shifted forward near the 1100m which placed her at the severe disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Race 3: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M BETTER IN THAN OUT – Began awkwardly. Jockey K. Yoshida could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly disappointing performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. FLYING BENNY – Jockey E. Ljung reported that, after beginning reasonably, the filly was reluctant to muster early speed and had a tendency to lay in throughout. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding for being uncompetitive in its first race start today. DRAGON MISS – Began awkwardly. LADY BLACKWOOD – Laid in for the majority. RYANO – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer M. Boland regarding the late declaration of P. Randall as rider. Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some swelling on the filly’s off side shoulder. Race 4: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when OUR BOY TRAV proved difficult to load. OUR BOY TRAV – Shifted very wide on the track to avoid TENKAYE, which had faltered passing the 800m and, as a result, raced wide for the remainder. ROOTS’N’ROCKS – As M. Palmer was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement due to transport difficulties, Stewards permitted R. Palmer to be substituted as rider. SERRATALLI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TENKAYE – Faltered near the 800m and sustained a catastrophic injury to its near fore leg. The filly was euthanased by the veterinary surgeon on humane grounds. A swab sample was taken from the filly post mortem. Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 PLATE – 1850M RANGAS RULE – Began awkwardly. LEICABLE – Slow to begin. Race 6: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA RATINGS BAND 0-55 H’CAP – 1625M THE EQUALIZER – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved somewhat difficult to ride out. DOMINANT WITNESS – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer K. Baumann advised that, at its most recent start at Warwick, the gelding had been forced to race wide and had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight. He added that prior to this, the gelding was not suited by racing on the tight turning track at Gatton. He went on to say that as the gelding was stepping up in distance in this event, he had expected an improved performance, however he was somewhat surprised that it was able to be successful today. Stewards noted the explanation. POLE VOLTER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Eased leaving the 400m when placed in restricted room to the inside of MAQUEREAU which was taken in by HEART VANDELAY which had been taken in by RISING KING which was laying in despite the efforts of its rider. RISING KING – Laid in in the home straight. MAQUEREAU – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain the leading position approaching the 800m. HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – Improved onto heels whilst racing keenly approaching the 800m, and had to be steadied. Race 7: MITAVITE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M GETS SMOKIN’ – Raced in restricted room when attempting a narrow run for a considerable distance passing the 150m. PHANTOM FALCON – As the gelding had not raced for over 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. WAIT A MINUTE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. NAVAL STRIKE – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels passing the 800m. MISS MAKEPEACE – Raced wide with cover for the majority. RUN THE CUTTER – Steadied from heels passing the 800m. HONEY BABY – Checked near the 150m to avoid the heels of ALL SHIRAZ which shifted out. Jockey K. Yoshida, the rider of ALL SHIRAZ, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of HONEY BABY resulting in that runner being checked to avoid his mount’s heels. Jockey Yoshida’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 6 June 2020 and conclude at midnight on Saturday 13 June 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Yoshida’s guilty plea and his excellent prior record in relation to this rule. Race 8: MOCO RATINGS BAND 0-55 H’CAP – 1000M ROGUE DRUMMER – Steadied near the 700m when placed in restricted room to the inside of IMABARMAN which shifted in and away from another runner despite the efforts of its rider. TEQUILA BOOM – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. IRONBORN – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. HERECUM DA DRUMS – As trainer A. Cowell was absent from the meeting today, Stewards will contact in him the coming days regarding the gelding’s seemingly improved performance. INSTABEATS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Race 9: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 1 PLATE – 1000M ANKARA FOX – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
