QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – FRIDAY 26 JUNE 2020 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD 4RAIL – 5MPENETROMETER – 4.87 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R. HitchenerStewards – B. McErlean, L. Carvosso, P. JenkinsClerk of Scales – S. FaheyJudge – M. Fahey, B. PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr. C. WainSwab Attendants – D. McDonald, J. CromptonStarter – T. WoodhamStewards Secretary – M. Weir Race 1: HYGAIN CLASS 2 PLATE – 1300M PROUD ROC – Slow to begin. THE HAND – Slow to begin. VASSA BLUE – Tightened for room and checked when TICINO BELLE shifted in near the 300m. Jockey T. Marshall, the rider of TICINO BELLE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 300m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of VASSA BLUE which was tightened for room and checked to avoid his mount’s heels. Jockey Marshall’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 4 July 2020 and conclude at midnight on Sunday 12 July 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Marshall’s excellent prior record in relation to this rule. COMMANDER SARA – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained passing the 1000m. PERFECT PAGE – Raced wide in the early stages. SCILAGO – Steadied to avoid heels whilst shifting out to improve near the 500m. Race 2: WESTON KITCHENS BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1050M The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners were reluctant to proceed to the barriers. ACEPLAY – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. ARROW EXPRESS – Began awkwardly. REMLAPS ROCK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. When questioned by Stewards in relation to his riding from the 800m, jockey P. Hamilton advised that after drawing wide the gelding was forced to race wide and, as a result, he elected to ride forward aggressively from approaching the 800m in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail. He added that he improved to a position outside KING’S LADY near the 700m, however his mount was still forced to race in a 3 wide position. He advised that from the 700m he felt that he had sufficient speed to press forward to cross KING’S LADY, however when that runner was ridden forward by its rider to maintain a position to his inside, he was unable to cross and was forced to remain wide for the entirety of the race. He went on to say that REMLAPS ROCK commenced to weaken from the 450m and, for that reason, he desisted from riding the gelding out over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation. LOVESON – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. POOLENZO – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. THUMBS UP – Checked to avoid heels when ARROW EXPRESS shifted in near the 200m. Apprentice A. Patis, the rider of ARROW EXPRESS, was issued with a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 200m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of THUMBS UP which was tightened for room and checked to avoid her mount’s heels. After considering submissions by Apprentice Patis and jockey J. Orman who assisted her during the inquiry, and further reviewing the patrol footage, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that THUMBS UP had fully established running to the inside of ARROW EXPRESS when that runner shifted ground, and therefore Stewards were of the opinion that the charge of careless riding could not be sustained to the requisite standard. Stewards therefore afforded Apprentice Patis the benefit of the doubt and took the matter no further. BEL BEAU – Began awkwardly. LAST EDITION – Held up rounding the home turn before shifting wider on the track to secure clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 3: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1880M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. Orman, the rider of 2nd placegetter RISING KING, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter, TEARS OF LOVE (G. Geran). After viewing the films, jockey Orman indicated that he did not wish to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers. BALIUS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. HARADIFY – Began awkwardly. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 1600m. TEARS OF LOVE – Tightened for room on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. OPEN ROAD – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. MISS MARGS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 900m. AIRLIE MAN – Momentarily steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of TEARS OF LOVE which shifted in under hard riding passing the 100m. Jockey G. Geran, the rider of TEARS OF LOVE, will be advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Boland was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. HISGRACE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. MOTION SENSOR – Laid out rounding the home turn. REG ‘N’ KATH – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the middle stages. Momentarily placed in restricted room near the 700m and, as a result, was eased by its rider and lost ground. PEARLS AND PERFUME – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. TINDER LOVING CARE – Slow to begin. Race 5: FOCUS HR QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1210M BANGERS AND MAYO – Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn. TREASURE OF GOLD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TERRAJOHNA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had some difficulty securing clear running passing the 100m. DUSTINS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. MISS BEAT – Declared a late scratching by Stewards at 8.18am. Trainer M. Kropp was fined $100 for failing to scratch the filly by the prescribed time. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Kropp’s prior good record in relation to this rule. WINTER RAIN – After being caught wide in the early stages, the filly was restrained to a trailing position passing the 900m in an endeavour to find a position closer to the rail, however as a result of racing keenly, was unable to do so and raced wide throughout. Apprentice M. Wishart reported that her mount hung out throughout. Race 6: TAB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1650M CREDIBLE – Jockey R. Palmer momentarily lost the use of her off side rein near the 500m which placed her at a disadvantage for a short distance. HOWITZER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
