Weir SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT The inquiry with respect to Rebecca Goldsbury’s riding of ABITOFACARD in Race 1 at Toowoomba on Saturday 1 August 2020 was further adjourned to a time and date to be fixed. GENERAL Due to delays at other venues, a number of riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000M TREMBLING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DIGGITY – Bumped at the start. EL PRADOS – Stewards will speak with Trainer B. Healey in the coming days regarding the late scratching of the gelding at 7.50am. HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Stewards permitted the late scratching of the gelding at 12.35pm for veterinary reasons. Trainer S. Hardy was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. ZANAZOU – Momentarily steadied near the 150m. EAST ESPLANADE – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MALAKAI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 2: CARPET ONE BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1200M ROYALIST – Steadied from heels and momentarily forced wider passing the 1000m. After being caught wide in the early stages, Apprentice I. Rabjones permitted her mount to stride forward in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail, however she was prevented from doing so by runners improving to her inside and, as a result, her mount was forced to race three wide without cover throughout. Laid in in the home straight. WAIT A MINUTE – Held up for a considerable distance rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. BY BY MUSIC – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air whilst being restrained passing the 1000m. HEAVENLY ARCHER – Jockey A. Sewell accidently struck jockey L. Tilley, who was racing to his outside, with his whip near the 50m and, as a result, jockey Sewell was momentarily prevented from using his whip effectively. WICCAN REDE – Steadied from heels and momentarily forced wider passing the 1000m. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Race 3: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 52 H’CAP – 1870M PERFECT PAGE – After beginning well, settled further forward than anticipated. STRYKING EMERALD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R. Goldsbury pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that she used her whip on 19 occasions during the race which was deemed excessive by Stewards. Jockey R. Goldsbury’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 8 August 2020 and conclude at midnight on Saturday 15 August 2020. PRINCELY SUM – Began awkwardly and lost ground. MONTE SANTO – Forced wider by another runner near the 1500m and, as a result, raced wide for the remainder. HOWITZER – Steadied from heels shortly after the start and lost ground. GET OUTA UTAH – Jockey K. Yoshida reported that his saddle shifted forward near the 1500m before correcting itself near the 600m and, as a result, he was placed at a disadvantage in the middle stages. Overraced and proved difficult to restrain in the middle stages. Jockey K. Yoshida pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that he used his whip on 17 occasions during the race which was deemed excessive by Stewards. Jockey K. Yoshida’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight on Sunday 16 August 2020 and concluded at midnight on Sunday 23 August 2020. ETHANOL GIRL – Slightly slow to begin and then further hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. Race 4: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M CROWN LAW – Dipped on jumping and lost ground. Shifted out abruptly when racing greenly passing the 700m. EXPOSED SECRET – Raced three wide for the majority. SIZZLELOVER – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Momentarily steadied to avoid heels rounding the home turn. SONIC ARROW – Stewards permitted Apprentice I. Rabjones to claim only 2½ kilograms of her 3 kilogram allowance. Began awkwardly. Apprentice I. Rabjones was reprimanded for using her whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m. SPIRIT BLUE – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout. After being caught very wide in the early stages, jockey N. Evans rode his mount forward to obtain a position closer to the rail and, as a result, was able to obtain a position one off the fence near the 700m. BUSTED KUSTED – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels passing the 800m. Jockey A. Sewell reported that his mount raced greenly throughout. Race 5: KNIGHTS COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M JUST RAFFERTY – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Held up rounding the home turn. A warning was issued against the gelding for its barrier manners. MOTION SENSOR – Raced three wide without cover for the majority. AMBIGUOUS – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Jockey L. Tilley could offer no explanation for the gelding’s below market expectation performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. MARCOOLA – Steadied from heels approaching the 1000m. GROOVY CAT – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. LITTLE NATURAL – Became awkward at heels leaving the 500m and was steadied. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. POINT THE WAGON – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. YANKEE SANG – Stewards permitted Apprentice I. Rabjones to claim only 1½ kilograms of her 3 kilogram allowance. Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of THE GROUSE. Stewards took initial evidence from jockey N. Tomizawa. Evidence was also taken from trainer G. Stephens, who presented proof of wagers placed on both of his runners in this event. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date and time to be fixed to enable them to give consideration to the evidence tendered and to review the betting activity in relation to this event. Race 6: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1640M SMOKEY DIAMOND – As a result of being caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to a position outside the leader near the 1400m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated. DON’T DOUBT LARA – Steadied to avoid the heels of LOUIE LA’JOY which shifted out near the 900m. Apprentice N. Fazackerley, the rider of LOUIE LA’JOY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of DON’T DOUBT LARA resulting in its rider having to take hold to avoid his mount’s heels. Apprentice N. Fazackerley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight on Sunday 16 August 2020 and conclude at midnight on Sunday 23 August 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Fazackerley’s guilty plea and his exemplary prior record in relation to this rule. OCTAVIAN – Overraced in the early stages. Race 7: WESTON KITCHENS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1870M The start of this race was delayed when ETHEREUM got down in the barriers and escaped under the front gate before galloping riderless for a considerable distance before being recaptured. ETHEREUM was subsequently declared a late scratching by Stewards at 8.21pm. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ETHEREUM prior to 8.21pm be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 24 cents in the dollar for the Win #222 cents in the dollar for place of winner #224 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5 As a result of ETHEREUM becoming riderless, and the Clerk of the Course also being dislodged from her mount, the starter ordered that all runners be removed and return to the enclosure to enable the barriers, which were located in the home straight, to be removed from the track for safety purposes. J. Lyon, the rider of ETHEREUM, escaped any injury, however the Clerk of the Course was subsequently transported to hospital to obtain treatment for a leg injury. Once both of the riderless horses were recaptured, the barriers were repositioned in the home straight and the runners returned to the course to enable the start of this event. Following the event, Trainer D. Murphy was advised that ETHEREUM will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing. EFFEXX – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced by WEKA PASS which had commenced to buck badly when passing the winning post on the first occasion. Held up for a short distance approaching the home turn. WEKA PASS – Commenced to buck for a considerable distance shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. NOTORIETY – Severely hampered and forced wider on the track by WEKA PASS which commenced to buck badly when passing the winning post on the first occasion. SHIERRO – Apprentice I.
