QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2021 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 3 METERS 800-600; 4 METERS REMAINDER PENETROMETER – 4.76 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – J Childs, T Preston & B McErleanClerk of Scales – A CucksonJudge – S Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – G Johnston Swab Attendants – D McDonald & R BurchmannStarter – T Woodham Race 1: REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUSTRALIA DARLING DOWNS BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1210 metres VOULAIT – Jockey B Moffat was issued a $300 fine under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted COUP – After being bumped at the start and being caught wide in the early stages was ridden aggressively in the early stages whilst racing wide to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m. Stewards questioned Jockey S Bogenhuber and trainer M Nolan in relation to the below market expectation performance. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that it was her intention to either lead today’s event or sit outside the leader if circumstances permit. She added that as a result of beginning only fairly she was required to place the gelding under some pressure in the early stages to obtain a position outside the leader. Jockey Bogenhuber went on to say that the gelding then travelled strongly for only a short distance and failed to run on from the 600m as she had expected and, in her opinion, proved disappointing. Trainer M Nolan advised that in his opinion the work in the early stages that the gelding was forced to do to obtain a position outside the leader combined with the significant weight impost were the major contributing factors to the poor performance. Notwithstanding this Mr Nolan did express disappointment with the performance however advised that being first up from a spell the gelding would derive a clear fitness benefit from tonight’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Held up for a considerable distance rounding the home turn. Race 2: NEWLANDS Class 2 Plate 1210 metres KANAVU – Began awkwardly. KING DINISTY – Began awkwardly bumping another runner. Held up for a considerable distance rounding the home turn. KING OF THE DESERT – Bumped at the start. REDZEB – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. THE CARPENTER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. SEMAPHORE GIRL – Slow to begin. SIZZLING BABE – Slow to begin. SIR PICCOLO – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. Race 3: LJ HOOKER BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1050 metres THE WAITING MAN – Tightened for room at the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which compounded in the home straight revealed the gelding to have an abnormal breathing noise. Trainer P Sexton will be advised that gelding will require a veterinary certificate as well as the results of an endoscopic examination. THE OLD BIRD – After beginning only fairly was tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. LIGHT CHARGE – Was declared a late scratching @ 5:05pm on veterinary advice. UNUSUAL AUNT – Trainer M Boland was issued a $100 fine under LR67 for the late rider declaration on the mare. Began awkwardly making heavy contact with another runner. WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Bumped heavily on jumping and then raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Race 4: WESTERN TRUCK GROUP RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1300 metres EXCEED ROCK – Approaching the 200m was momentarily steadied to avoid heels. FRONT PAGE NEWS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. BEACH CLUB – Approaching the 1000m whilst racing keenly was steadied when awkwardly placed at heels after being taken out by MOSSFAIR. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MOSSFAIR – When returning to scale Jockey G Cartwright reported that her mount hung out throughout. Race 5: IOR PETROLEUM Maiden Plate 1210 metres COALBANK CAVALRY – After being crossed passing the 1000m firstly by SGURR MOR and then DOCTOR TEEKAY commenced to over race for a considerable distance and proved difficult to restrain. Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Steadied from heels near the 800m BACIO VINCENTE – Steadied to avoid heels near the 1000m. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. GENERAL ELLIOT – Slow to begin. PUCKO – Hung in throughout. EVASIVE LIGHT – Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. SENSE OF EXPENSE – Jockey J Murphy was issued a $800 fine under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted. Race 6: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES Maiden Plate 870 metres OUR VERA – Declared a late scratching @ 8:03pm after refusing to proceed to the barriers. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on OUR VERA be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 8:03pm:44 cents in the dollar for the win25 cents in the dollar for place for the winner27 cents in the dollar for 2nd place26 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer P Kalinowski was advised that the mare would be required to obtain to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. LOVE YOU MORE - Near the 600m steadied when placed in restricted room. Steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room near the 50m. GULLFAXI – Slow to begin. MANDO ROCK – For a considerable distance passing the 500m raced in restricted room to the inside of DUREADY (H Richardson) which shifted in marginally whilst racing tight to that runners outside. Jockey H Richardson was advised to exercise more care. AVOIDING HER – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
