Race 5: WE MISS YOU DOWIE, ALLAN & NICOLLE GEE BENCHMARK 65
Handicap 1300 metres

THE HAND – Began awkwardly.

KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Stewards questioned Jockey L Tilley with respect to the tactics adopted on the gelding in the early and middle stages with particular concern to him allowing RHYME TIME to cross his mount near the 1000m where there appeared to be an opportunity for Jockey Tilley to maintain a position inside that runner and thus forcing RHYME TIME to race 3 wide throughout. Jockey Tilley advised in the early stages it was his intention to maintain a position 1 out 1 back however when RHYME TIME which was racing slightly in advance of him commended to crowd his running near the 1100m his mount commenced to lay in and was reluctant to maintain its position. As a consequence, he advised that RHYME TIME was eventually able to cross his mount near the 900m. Having considered Jockey Tilley’s explanation, whilst stewards accepted that KEEP ON LOVING YOU had a tendency to lay in in the back straight in their opinion would have been more advantageous to make greater effort to maintain his position 1 out 1 back rather than allowing RHYME TIME to cross his mount. Stewards did not however feel that the error was sufficient to warrant a breach of the rules and took the matter no further at this time.

RHYME TIME – Apprentice Wilson-Taylor was issued a $600 fine under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip in an excess of 5 times prior to the 100m.

ZANAZOU – Slow to begin.

MISS MAKEPEACE – Inclined to lay in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 6: HATCH RACING BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1000 metres

V J DAY (USA) – Slipped on exiting the float upon arrival at the track. Was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

The start of the race was delayed when spinning spirit cast a hind plate after all other runners were loaded in the barriers. As a result, all runners were backed out of the starting stalls whilst an attempt was made to re fit the hind plate on SPINNING SPIRIT. When this plate was unable to be refitted and after consultation with Trainer J Hanna Stewards permitted the mare to race bare behind after the other hind plate was removed.

DANAWI – Slow to begin. Jockey N Day was issued a $800 fine under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

SPINNING SPIRIT – Difficult to load. Trainer J Hanna was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority.

THE LAUNCHER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MOTOMISS – Tightened for room at the start, lost ground and as a consequence settled further back than anticipated. Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and was forced to shift inwards. Again, disappointed for a run near the 50m and went to the line without being fully tested.

Race 7: GOLLAN RACING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1625 metres

Due to the delay of race 6 The start time of this race was amended to 8:55pm.

BETTER ETHICS – Tightened for room at the start. After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward by its rider to a position outside the leader near the 1100m.
Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m, that being 6 times. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence midnight 25/04/21 and to expire midnight 02/05/2021. When considering penalty stewards were mindful that this was Mr Wilson- Taylors 16th breach of this rule since the introduction of the rider penalty guidelines for whip rule breaches, 3 of which occurred today (1 breach at the Ipswich meeting earlier today).

HEART ATTACK – Jockey M Hellyer pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner, that being 21 times. Jockey M Hellyer’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, to commence midnight 18/04/21 and to expire midnight 30/04/2021.
