Race 2: Happy 80th Flippy Class 3 Handicap 1300 metres

ISAREADY – Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition. Leaving the 600m shifted out to improve and bumped with SARASUN. Performed below market expectation. Rider N Fazackerley expressed disappointment in the geldings performance, stating that when he pressured his mount near the 600m the gelding failed to quicken as expected and did not respond to his riding from that point proving disappointing. Trainer S Kirkwood could offer no tangible explanation however advised that the gelding will now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.

SARASUN – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Leaving the 600m forced wider by ISAREADY which shifted out to improve. When asked to comment rider L Tarrant reported that after beginning moderately the gelding had failed to muster any early speed therefore he elected to restrain to a position closer to the rail. He added that when attempting to gain cover near the 1200m the runners to his inside had improved quickly resulting in him being obliged to race wide for the remainder. Stewards noted his comments.

HOLD ALL TICKETS – After being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward to a position outside the leader approaching the 900m.

FAIR FELLA – Became fractious behind the barriers and dislodged its rider. Steward’s questioned Apprentice M Wishart in the presence of trainer K Kemp and Jockey advocate B Saunders in regards to the tactics adopted and the reasons she rode FAIR FELLA off the fence throughout the event and as a result the eventual winner in THE TENOR was able to improve to her inside from the 400m. App Wishart advised that her instructions were to ride the gelding in a one off position which connections believed to be better going. Ms Wishart stated that whilst riding FAIR FELLA en route to the barriers she had also formed the same opinion as connections and felt it to be the better going. Stewards confirmed the instructions with stable representative Kate Kropp. Ms Wishart indicated that in hindsight she would have been better served riding her mount closer to the fence. Stewards noted the explanation.

LILLI LIGHTS OUT – Slow to begin.

ABOVE THE SKY – When asked to comment rider J Murphy reported that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, in a position tracking I’M HITCHING BRO however from the 600m when that runner improved into the race his mount failed to respond to his riding and did not quicken as he anticipated. He added that near the 300m he was disappointed for a run to the outside of PERFECT PAGE and elected to shift in to obtain clear running and the gelding ran on only fairly. Stewards noted the explanation.
