QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY 7 AUGUST 2021 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 5 RAIL – TRUE PENETROMETER – 5.14 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – B. Woodham GENERAL Stewards accepted the explanations of Trainer’s C Anderson and M Patterson in relation to their late ride declarations. Race 1: TOPALOV'S BIG (5-0) BASH BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1300 metres SPENDING MY TIME- Improved onto heels near the 800m and was steadied. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. App N Fazackerley could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding which he reported failed to quicken as he had expected when placed under pressure from the 500m. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. BERNIE'S TIGER- Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed. MARMARIS- Slow to begin. RAPIDO GRIS- Raced wide in the early stages before improving onto heels near the 700m and was forced to shift out. As a consequence, raced 5 wide without cover for the remainder of the event. ABB ROY- Raced 3 wide in the early stages before being forced wider by another runner near the 800m and as a result raced 4 wide without cover for the remainder. ZANAZOU- Forced wider by another runner near the 800m and as a result raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder. MAEVILA RULER- Disappointed for run rounding the home turn. Race 2: MURDOCH & NEALE Class 1 Plate 1200 metres DREAM WEAVING- Due to the covid restrictions, App D. McGillivray was permitted to only claim 2.5kg of his 3kg allowance. Began awkwardly and then raced in restricted room in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. DRAGON PINS- Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early and middle stages. LITTLE NATURAL- After being caught wide in the early stages, was restrained by its rider to a rearward position with cover near the 1000m. STEELCAPSTILETTOS- Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. ANGELS SHARE- Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the mare which was heavily supported in betting, Trainer K Kemp reported that at the mares previous start it performed disappointingly after missing the start badly. He added that as the mare was 3rd up from a spell in today’s race it had now reached peak fitness and based on its work in preparation for tonight’s event had expected a forward showing, particularly when in his opinion racing in inferior company to recent starts. LA READY ROSA- Raced in restricted room in the early stages. OUR ROCKIN'- Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. SHEINDLIN- Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Race 3: ANNART & ATKINSON Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1000 metres KEEP ON LOVING YOU- Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. RIVER SPAN- Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out over the concluding stages. OVIDIUS- Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. I'LL TELL YOU NOW- Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. RUSSIAN ROMEO- Slow to begin. Race 4: BOUGOURE & ENGLAND Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1000 metres BID IN A HURRY (NZ) - Slow to begin. THAWRA- Laid out when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and raced greenly in the home straight. Neither App. N Fazackerley nor Trainer M Currie could offer any tangible explanation in relation to the below market expectation performance. Trainer M Currie advised that in light of tonight’s performance he would monitor the mares post-race recovery before considering whether to continue with its current preparation. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. MARRIED IN VEGAS- Slow to begin. Race 5: HEFFERNAN & MCGRADE Class 1 Plate 1625 metres CANISTER- Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. DIVINE AUTHORITY- Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GONZO- Over raced in the middle stages. LONADO- Over raced in the middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MODULO- Steadied when tightened for room near the 150m. NOT BY NATURE (NZ)- Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels shortly after the start. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to displaying an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer K Sims was advised he would be required to obtain a Veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination for the gelding prior to next racing. PUCKO- Began awkwardly. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 1400m. MY TARANAKI (NZ)- Slow to begin. Race 6: SIXSMITH & WILKES Maiden Handicap 1300 metres Due to a malfunction with the photo finish equipment in the previous event, the start time was amended to 8:39pm BOOM BY BY- Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. HAIL TO THE CHIEF- Over raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PURE PURGATORY- Began awkwardly. BENT BENNY- Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels after being crossed leaving the 900m. MILAGRO- Jockey J Murphy reported on returning to scale that his mount felt awkward in its action on returning to scale. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both hind legs. Trainer R Pereira was advised she will be required to obtain a Veterinary clearance for the mare prior to next racing. STYLISH HABIT- Bumped on jumping. Laid in throughout. HIGH REWARDS- A post-race Veterinary examination on mare, which commenced to weaken from the 500m, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer D Reynolds was advised a warning would be issued against the mare for being uncompetitive. JIMMY NEUTRON- Slow to begin. Race 7: PLUMB & POWELL Maiden Handicap 1850 metres The start time of this event was amended to 9:16pm MR REDDINGTON- Slow to begin. KINKUNA- Bumped on jumping. Steadied when placed in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Had difficult securing clear running the home turn. KICKS BOTH FEET- Began awkwardly. Laid in for the majority. LEADBURN LION- Over raced in the early and middle stages and as a result settled further forward than anticipated. EVRYNOW'N'THEN- Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner rounding the home turn and was eased. SINE CURVE- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 800m, steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room. WHY NOT ME- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
