Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards considered an objection lodged by apprentice I. Rabjones (OUTBACK HEIGHTS) alleging interference against the winner (BEFANA) in the home straight. After hearing submission from connections, it was established that near the 150m OUTBACK HEIGHTS was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of BAFANA, which shifted out, and as a result, was forced to shift in across heels to obtain clear running. Giving consideration to the nature of the interference, the way both horses finished the race off and the margin of half a length, stewards couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, OUTBACK HEIGHTS would have finished in advance of BEFANA and subsequently dismissed the objection.
