QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – FRIDAY 23rd MARCH 2022 WEATHER – Overcast/Showers TRACK RATING – Soft 5 Race 1, Soft 6 Races 2-7 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, P Jenkins, P KennedyClerk of Scales – A CucksonJudge – S Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr G CavanaghSwab Attendants – D MacDonaldStarters – T Woodham & B Mallory GENERAL The following overweights were permitted by Stewards: Race 2 – T Banks +1kg Race 7 – N Fazackerley +1kg Race 1: WE MISS YOU DOWIE, ALLAN & NICOLLE GEE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100m PUCKO- Began awkwardly before being slow into stride and being crowded soon after. Became awkwardly placed on heels and obliged to shift out when the pace slackened near the 700m. Inclined to lay in for the majority and whilst under pressure down the running. HABIB- Bumped on jumping and shifted out, Raced wide for the majority. SHOTGUN SONNY- Began awkwardly and became awkwardly placed on heels soon after. Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages and became awkwardly placed on heels when the pace slackened near the 700m. Shifted out and away from heels to obtain clear running leaving the 150m. SCARE CAMPAIGN- Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner. FOREVER VOLO- Began awkwardly. Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. MISS BARTY- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. SOTRMZONE- Raced wide for the majority. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D Tunnah was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings competitiveness. Race 2: GOLLAN RACING RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP 1850m YOUNG CLIFFY- Began awkwardly. Took the course proper crossing awkwardly and became awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance after. Shifted out and around heels to obtain clear running passing the 200m. DÉCOR DEELS- Began awkwardly and shifted in. Momentarily hampered approaching the 400m when obliged to steady and shift out around heels. SHEINDLIN- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 400m momentarily hampering DÉCOR DEELS (S Apthorpe). Jockey T Banks was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. GONZO- Raced wide in the early stages before racing keenly and taking up a position outside the leader passing the 1300m. Jockey G Geran advised that once caught wide and racing keenly he elected not to overly restrain his mount and it found the forward position under its own fruition before continuing to race keenly. Jockey Geran added that, given the geldings usually pattern of racing keenly and given the wide barrier today he expected to settle further forward than in its most recent starts. Stewards noted Jockey Gerans comments. GO MILLO- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. JETT AUSTIN- Raced wide in the early stages. TRIANGULUM- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Shifted wider and urged forward from the 900m and raced wide from then on. IN YOUR ELEMENT- Raced wide with cover from the 800m. Jockey S Lacy was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. WALKINSHAW- Made contact with the running rail becoming momentarily unbalanced passing the 400m. GOT THE LOT- Raced wide for the majority. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to s Soft 6 retrospectively of Race 2. Race 3: 1EQUINE – FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE CLASS 3 PLATE 870m ELEGIST- Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners. Raced wide for the majority. ARATULA- Hung out on jumping bumping with another runner and tightening runners to it outside. Trainer M Patterson was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners as a result. IN HAVANA- Slow into stride. ROWDASH- Severely tightened on jumping. Obliged to steady off heels approaching the 600m. Disappointed for a run on entering the home straight before becoming awkwardly placed on heels and shifting wider to obtain clear running. PRINCESS LUNAR- Severely tightened on jumping and lost ground before becoming awkward on heels. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority. LIVELY LASS- Severely tightened on jumping. KEEPMOVING FORWARD- Severely tightened on jumping. Obliged to steady when a runner to the outside shifted in marginally passing the 700m. Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until a point near the 200m. A GOOD CHANCE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Marginally shifted in and away from another runner passing the 700m hampering KEEPMOVING FORWARD (S Lacy). Momentarily held up on entering the home straight and obliged to shift out and around heels to obtain clear running. IMPLACABLE- Shifted in passing the 700m hampering runners to its inside. Jockey C Small was reminded of his obligations. Race 4: DARRYL GOLLAN MEMORIAL QTIS 2yo HANDICAP 870m STRAIGHT ALPHAS- Stewards acceded to a request from Co-Trainers T & M Sears to permit the filly to race in blinkers. This was advertised by oncourse announcement and social media address. Co-Trainers T & M Sears were fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR206 for failing to enact a gear change by the prescribed time. LA VITTORIA- Slow into stride. Finished tailed off. Trainer M Nolan was advised the filly would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. UNCOMMON VALOUR- Slow to begin. Commenced to buck soon after the start and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer M Nolan was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. KWINERN- Raced greenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority. THE SNUGGLER- Laid out passing the 600m and rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: NEIL MANSELL HONOURING A GREAT MATE DARRYL GOLLAN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m WHEN DOVES FLY- Bumped with another runner on jumping. JOHNNY THUNDER- Bumped with another runner on jumping. App A Jones pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the race and was subsequently fined the sum of $600. In determining penalty Stewards considered App Jones status as an apprentice and her record in relation to the rule as well as the fact there was a degree of uncertainty in whether her actions cost the gelding 3rd placing given the official margin of a half-neck, which was deemed to be a mitigating factor. MISS DESCARTS- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Momentarily crowded passing the 1100m. IRRESISTABULL- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to lay in throughout. LADY DANORO- Laid in passing the 1100m momentarily crowding runners to its inside. Jockey S Fawke was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in passing the 600m. Obliged to ease momentarily passing the 550m when a runner to the outside shifted in marginally. and throughout the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer L Baskett was advised the mare would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. PRECIOUS DIAMOND- Momentarily crowded passing the 1100m and again approaching the 800m racing ungenerously for a short distance thereafter. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the right fore. Trainer M Currie was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. MARISSA- Steadied off heels approaching the 800m and lost ground. BRINGTHELOVE-Momentarily crowded passing the 600m. Momentarily held up approaching the 500m. TWILIGHT BOOM- Shifted in passing the 550m hampering LADY DANORO (S Fawke). App M Savva will be advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstance. Raced wide for the majority. IDLING BY- Raced wide for the majority. DECADE- Raced wide for the majority. CURLEY BEAU- Raced wide for the majority. Stewards intend to inquire into the reason/s BRINGTHELOVE (M Murphy) and LADY DANORO (S Fawke) were steadied passing the 800m. Race 6: EUREKA STUD REMEMBERING DARRYL GOLLAN CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1625m REST OF THE WORLD- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Inclined to race keenly in the early stages. When questioned in regard to the seemingly improved performance Trainer M Currie advised that the gelding had been racing well recently over shorter distances and he had expected a forward showing in todays event over further distance. Stewards noted the explanation. FAMOUS- Performed below market expectations. App A Jones suggest that, in her opinion, the gelding is better suited to races over shorter distances. Adding that she believes the gelding is at its best when able to lead and dictate terms. Trainer M Currie attributed the geldings lacklustre performance to its unfavourable positioning in the run. LUNAR LUSTRE- Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed ot reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S Sixtus was advised a warning would be placed on the mare as a result. Race 7: TTC CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF TWILIGHT RACING QTIS 3yo MAIDEN HANDICAP 1625m BUIN ROAD- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Eased off heels soon after the start and became awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance soon after. ZIP JAK- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. MARCIA AURELLA- Began awkwardly before being slow into stride and bumping with another runner. Laid out passing the 1300m. TIMSTAR- Commenced to tire from the 500m and finished tailed off. Trainer S Sixtus was advised the gelding would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. THAT’S A MIRACLE- Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A post-race blood sample was taken for analysis. Trainer P Duff advised that, in his opinion, the gelding did not see out the mile and further undertook to advise should anything become apparent in the geldings condition in the coming days. Stewards noted the explanation.
