QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – THURSDAY 14th APRIL 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 Races 1-2; Good 4 Races 3-7 RAIL – Out 3.5m the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, T PrestonClerk of Scales – D RossiterJudge – S Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr A HopgoodSwab Attendants – D MacDonaldStarters – T Woodham & B Mallory SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT On the 14th April 2022 Stewards received a report from Trainer A Park that AQUA LADY had bled from both nostrils whilst at track work adding that the mare would now be retired. Nonetheless, as this was the second such occurrence Trainer Park was advised the mare would now be barred from racing in Australia indefinitely under the provisions of AR79. Toowoomba 25th March 2022 Race 5- NEIL MANSELL HONOURING A GREAT MATE DARRYL GOLLAN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m App M Savva was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she did permit her mount to shift in passing the 800m causing LADY DANORO (S Fawke), which had been inclined to lay in leading into the incident, to shift in crowding BRINGTHELOVE (M Murphy) which was obliged to restrain. App Savva was advised of her right to an internal review. GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 4- L Dittman +0.5kg Due to significant delays as a result of a traffic incident Stewards accepted the reasons for the late arrival of several runners on course. As App I Rabjones was not riding due to injury replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. App Rabjones was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to being permitted to race ride again. Race 1: FOCUS HR QTIS 2yo HANDICAP 1100m HUBBUB- A pre-race inspection revealed the horse to be a gelding and as such incorrectly displayed as a colt in some form guides. This was advertised by way of oncourse announcement and social media address. As the gelding was having its first start no action was taken other than to advise Trainer M Nolan to amend the stable return to reflect the horses status as a gelding and for it to be backdated to the time of the procedure. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped another runner. Steadied off heels approaching the 900m. Laid in approaching the 400m bumping with another runner. Raced wide for the majority. FOREBEARS- Bumped on jumping. Raced greenly for the majority. THINK I’M READY- Bumped on jumping. Bumped by another runner approaching the 400m. HATTUSA- Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner. Raced in restricted room bumping heavily with STEP LIVELY passing the 700m and again passing the 550m. STEP LIVELY- Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room bumping heavily with HATTUSA passing the 700m and again passing the 550m. MISHANI MISTRESS- Began awkwardly and shifted out. Shifted in approaching the 900m causing HUBBUB (App J Cornish) to be steadied. App M Savva was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care as a result of this incident. App Savva was reprimanded under the provisions of AR115(1)(a) in that she did misconduct herself by being present in the ‘Winners Lounge’ with connections of the filly following the event. Race 2: CREATE WITH COFFEE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m HUNTING GOLD- Was fractious in the mounting yard, made contact with the mounting yard fence and momentarily dislodged Jockey N Callow. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners. EPIC LOVE- Stewards acceded to a late request from Co-Trainer C Geran for the mare to race without the Tongue Control Bit. This was advertised by way of on course announcement and social media address. Trainer C Geran was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR206 for failing to enact a gear change by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly. VISUAL ELEMENT- Attempted to buck soon after the start. Trainer J Dann was advised the mare would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. JUSTINIAN- Crowded for room passing the 850m. SYSYPHEAN- Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. Shifted out abruptly passing the 600m hampering MEO MIO. Trainer M Frappell will be advised a warning will be placed on the geldings racing manners. MEO MIO- Hampered by another runner passing the 600m. TYPHOON TALAYAH- Raced wide for the majority. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. DECADE- On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the first such occurrence Trainer W Nugent was advised that under the provisions of AR79 the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and be subject to a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Following reports from Clerk of the Course Miss T Noble and Starter Mr T Woodham Stewards inquired into the conduct of App A Thompson whilst on the track and at the start prior to the running of Race 2. After taking evidence from those involved it was ascertained that App Thompson did use inappropriate language in the presence of Miss Noble and Mr Woodham. App Thompson subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR228 and was issued with a reprimand. As this incident constituted a breach of a rule for which an amount of $200 had previously been suspended for a period of 12 months from the 30th April 2021 that fine was also enacted. App Thompson was advised of his right to an internal review. Race 3: TALENT SPRING QTIS 3yo BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200m MISHANI SNIPER- Shifted out passing the 1100m hampering another runner. App M Castle was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide for the majority. Stewards questioned App Castle regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding which settled further forward than expected. App Castle advised her instructions had been to be positive from the barrier and settle in a forward position. Trainer L Ross advised that his instructions had been to be positive from the barrier as the gelding has previously been slow away and with the addition of the blinkers he expected the gelding to settle in a more forward position, probably midfield with cover however and had not expected it to lead. Trainer Ross added that he was disappointed with the performance. Stewards noted the explanations and reminded Trainer Ross of his obligations under the provisions of AR100. MONDAY MONDAY- As Jockey R Fradd was late arriving on course due to traffic delays Stewards permitted Jockey G Cartwright to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner. RIPPIN’ READY- Bumped on jumping. ART BY CONCORDE- Hampered passing the 1100m having to be steadied momentarily. Shifted out around heels approaching the 200m. Hampered by another runner passing the 150m. LITTLE MIX- Crowded for room leaving the 900m having to be eased momentarily. ILIKEIT ILOVEIT- Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide from the 600m. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and under pressure down the running, shifting out passing the 150m hampering another runner. App M Savva was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident and reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mount in similar circumstances. PRYCE- Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Co-Trainer C Geran advised that, in his opinion, the filly would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run and given the class of the field was not overly disappointed with the performance. Stewards noted the comments. Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the patrol footage of the home straight so as to ascertain whether grounds for an objection on behalf of ART BY CONCORDE (G Geran), 5th place, against ILIKEIT ILOVEIT (M Savva), 4th place, were present. After viewing the patrol footage and considering the margin of a Long Head Stewards elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judged semaphored numbers. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 4 retrospective to Race 3. Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1625m HANDBALL- Began awkwardly and became awkwardly placed on heels soon after settling further back in the field than may have been expected as a result. Raced keenly passing the 1000m. ANYWAY YOU WANT IT- Began awkwardly and shifted in. Inclined to lay out marginally rounding the home turn. CONISMO- Slow into stride before being crowded and steadied off heels as a result. Inclined to lay in passing the 800m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. FOXY ROSE- Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly passing the 1000m. MANTINELLO- Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly down the back straight having to be eased off heels passing the 800m. Laid in passing the 400m bumping with STRUT. Shifted out when crossed by another runner passing the 50m. BENT BENNY- Inclined to race keenly in the early stages and down the back straight. Inclined to lay out for the majority. STAR DIVA- Raced wide in the early stages. STRUT- Raced wide int eh early stages. Crowded and bumped with MANTINELLO passing the 400m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. DU MAURIER- Laid out and away from another runner passing the 50m. Race 5: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000m PATENTED- As App J Molloy was late arriving on course due to traffic delays and no other suitable Apprentice rider being available Stewards permitted Jockey S Lacy to be substituted as rider of the gelding. I’MTWENTYFOURSEVEN- Significantly delayed the start after throwing an off-hind plate on exiting the mounting yard and having to be re-shod. Bumped by PHIONAIX approaching the 100m. VICEMAN- Began awkwardly and shifted in crowding BESTIE before being corrected by its rider. Raced in restricted room from the 800-700m. Laid in passing the 600m momentarily hampering another runner. BESTIE- Crowded on jumping. OUR MUSKETEER- Bumped on jumping. Bumped with SPINNING SPIRIT leaving the 400m. Finished tailed off. Trainer G Payne will be interviewed regarding the geldings performance. SPINNING SECRET- Bumped on jumping before being crowded soon after. Bumped with OUR MUSKETEER leaving the 400m. ELEGIST- Raced in restricted room from the 800-700m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running, bumping with SYD’S FOOTPRINTS passing the 200m. PHIONAIX- Raced in restricted room from the 800-700m. Hampered passing the 600m. Bumped with I’MTWENTYFOURSEVEN approaching the 100m. SYD’S FOOTPRINTS- Bumped by ELEGIST passing the 200m and was inclined to lay in and away from that runner for a short distance after. Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1300m VLADKING- Slow into stride. SAYS WHO- Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly approaching the 900m. SHOTGUN SONNY- Began awkwardly. Over-raced and raced ungenerously throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. DREAM POLICE- Obliged to ease when awkwardly placed on heels passing the 900m. RUBY’S LAD- Inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. KNOWITALL JACK- Laid in passing the 500m and again rounding the home turn. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. PURE PURGATORY- Performed disappointingly. Jockey S Lacy advised that after travelling fairly, despite being caught wide for the majority, her mount failed to let down as expected when pressured in the home straight. Co-Trainer C Geran undertook to advised Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the mares condition in the coming days. Race 7: HAPPY EASTER FROM TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 2150m ELIZANO- Slow into stride and momentarily crowded on jumping. Shifted in off heels passing the 2100m. Raced wide from the 1100m until a point approaching the 800m when commencing a forward move obtaining the lead and a position closer to the inside running rail approaching the 600m. VAMPIRINA DIAMOND- Raced keenly passing the 1400m. Bumped by BUIN ROAD before bumping the inside running rail passing the 1000m. Held up for clear running by a tiring runner passing the 500m. BUIN ROAD- Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages. Whilst over-racing was obliged to steady and shift in bumping VAMPIRINA ROAD passing the 1000m when LUNAR LANDING shifted in marginally. LUNAR LANDING- Inclined to over-race passing the 1200m. Shifted in marginally passing the 1000m hampering runners to its inside. Jockey L Tarrant was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey L Tarrant advised he dropped his whip passing the 400m. Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right-hind. Trainer R Heathcote advised the gelding would likely be sent for an immediate spell. Nonetheless, Trainer Heathcote was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. IN YOUR ELEMENT- Whilst racing keenly on heels shifted out passing the 1100m taking DÉCOR DEELS wider. DÉCOR DEELS- Taken wider by another runner passing the 1100m. Raced wide for the majority. D’CLONE- Commenced to tire from the 500m. KOWLOON GEM- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
