QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY 14th MAY 2022 WEATHER – Overcast/Rain TRACK RATING – Races 1-3 Soft 7; Races 2-6 Heavy 8; Race 7 Heavy 9 RAIL – Out 1m the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – T Preston, D Kerwick, A Johnston, W GlassClerk of Scales – A CucksonJudge – S Fahey & B PolestraVeterinarian – Dr A HopgoodSwab Attendants – D MacDonaldStarters – T Woodham & B Mallory GENERAL Race 8- Trainer M Currie was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of LR68(1) for failing to scratch DISCO DAMO by the prescribed time. Race 1: YARRAWONGA SANTA GERTRUDIS STUD QTIS 3yo MAIDEN PLATE 1200m BUMP’N’RUN- Trainer G Betros was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR165(1) for failing to have the gelding on course by the prescribed time. Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. CRUISING BILL- Began awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. App J Cornish advised that, in her opinion, her mount failed to let down in the home straight as a result of resenting the prevailing racing conditions. PEARLS ‘N’ PIMMS- Bumped on jumping. CHAMPION BALLERINA- Fractious in the mounting yard. Inclined to race greenly down the back straight and down the running. Raced wide for the majority. ARTIE’S DESTINY- Raced keenly approaching the 1000m before improving onto heels near the 900m when the pace slackened having to be steadied. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. ROCK DREAMER- Tired noticeably in the home straight. Jockey J Murphy advised that, in his opinion, his mount resented the prevailing racing conditions adding he believed the gelding would benefit from the removal of the blinkers going forward. HIMSELF- Raced wide for the majority. Race 2: ROLLING HILLS SANTA GERTRUDIS STUD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100m SYD’S FOOTPRINTS- Was declared a late scratching at 1:20pm due to transport difficulties resulting from flooding in the area. VINASTA- Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground assuming a trailing position as a result. Co-Trainer was advised a warning would be placed on the mares barrier manners. COLD HARD FACT- Began awkwardly. I’MTWENTYFOURSEVEN- Raced keenly approaching the 900m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Stewards questioned Jockey K Zechner regarding the seemingly improved performance. Jockey Zechner advised that, in his opinion, his mount appreciated the prevailing racing conditions as well as the retention of the blinkers from last start. Jockey Zechner added that he believed the let up between runs was also a contributing factor to todays forward showing. FOR MY ANNIE- Raced keenly for a short distance near the 800m when crossed by another runner. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Race 3: ACHIEVEIT FINANCIAL PLANNING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1300m DRAGON PINS- Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer L Hatch to permit the gelding to race in blinkers. This was advertised by way of on course announcement and social media address. Trainer Hatch was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR206 for failing to enact a gear change by the prescribed time. Crowded soon after the start, was inclined to over-race from that time until a point near the 900m. VLADKING- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. SISTER KATHLEEN- Slow into stride. Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running. EPICURIOUS- Began very awkwardly and was slow into stride losing ground and assuming a rearward position as a result. Shifted wider and commenced a forward move near the 700m. HOLD ALL TICKETS- Laid out soon after the start crowding a runner to its outside. Apprentice M Savva was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. MY GIRL SKY- Raced keenly from the 900-800m. THE CARPENTER- Laid out marginally passing the 800m momentarily crowding another runner. TELEPHONE BOOTH- Raced wide for the majority. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Heavy 8 Race 4: DIAMOND H SANTA GERTRUDIS STUD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1850m FIREBOX- Trainer C Anderson was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR165(3) for removing the gelding from the course prior to the prescribed time. Slow into stride after being crowded on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. ELIZANO- Trainer D Groves was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations under the provisions of LR67 for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. WALBUNDRIE- Raced wide in the early stages. LI’L RODGE- Raced wide in the early stages. FACTORY WARRIOR- Raced wide for the majority. BETTER ETHICS- On returning to scale App J Cornish advised that, in her opinion, her mount appreciated the prevailing racing conditions and performed better than expected. ELEUTHERA- On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from one nostril in running. Trainer T Sears was advised of the provisions of AR79 in that the mare would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Race 5: SANTA GERTRUDIS BREEDERS AUSTRALIA ASSOCIATION BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 870m I’M JACKO- Crowded on jumping. CYCLONE DIVA- Crowded soon after the start and obliged to ease. Raced wide for the majority. RELICTA- Commenced to tire from the 500m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey N Fazackerley advised that, in his opinion, his mount did not appreciate the prevailing racing conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. LA BELLE LA BELLA- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. COPPER SUNSET- Raced wide for the majority. SHE’S SO VAIN- Jockey N Nishio was cautioned under the provisions of AR132 for raising his whip arm above shoulder height. Race 6: APPROVEIT HOME LOANS MAIDEN PLATE 1625m TRUTH OR DARE- Dipped when coming off the course proper crossing. Didn’t appreciate the prevailing racing conditions and finished tailed off. MOTION SENSOR- Raced keenly in the early stages of the back straight. CATCHESWINMATCHES- Raced wide in the early stages. Commenced to tire from the 600m. Finished tailed off. SCARRED FOR LIFE- Raced keenly in the early stages. EYELEFTIT- Raced wide in the early stages. Obliged to momentarily ease when awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 1300m. Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn. ZOUESAY- Raced wide in the early stages. Obliged to momentarily ease and shift out around heels leaving the 1300m. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Heavy 9 Following the running of this event the Riding cohort and Stewards convened to discuss the deteriorating racing conditions. After discussing the matter the decision was made to continue with the meeting and reconvene to reassess if necessary. Due to this delay race times for the remaining events were amended as follows: Race 7: 8:00pmRace 8: 8:25pmRace 9: 8:52pm (As scheduled) Race 7: GLENN OAKS SANTA GERTRUDIS STUD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1625m IT MUST BE LOVE- Jockey S Lacy was permitted to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allocated weight. This was advertised by way of on course announcement and social media address. Raced wide for the majority. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. CARLIN TREND- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages of the backs straight. TRUST IN ALOHA- A Jockey R Payne was unable to attend due to transport difficulties Jockey S Bogenhuber was substituted as rider of the mare. Dwelt in the barrier and was slow into stride. Raced wide in the early stages. Didn’t appreciate the prevailing racing conditions and finished tailed off. CONISMO- Slow into stride. Didn’t appreciate the prevailing racing conditions and finished tailed off. JELLISHOT- Raced wide in the early stages. Bumped with another runner passing the 300m. ULTIMATE POWER- Over-raced on heel passing the 1400m having to be restrained and shifted wider from the 1300m when continuing to over-race. MONACO DELUXE- Laid in and bumped another runner passing the 300m. Following the running of this event the Riding cohort and Stewards convened and determined that due to the deteriorating track conditions resulting in increased kickback and the persistent poor weather conditions visibility during the events had worsened to an extent where the safety of rider and horse was no longer assured and determined the only suitable course of action to be abandoning the remainder of the meeting.
